Chapter Text
What the hell.
This, to be quite frank, was not how Endeavor thought his day was going to go.
All Endeavor was trying to do was figure out where Hawks wanted to go after he invited him on a... “Date.”
(It was a meeting discussing how to catch a new villain.)
“Soo…how was the food, big guy?”
“It was fine, Hawks.”
Hawks pranced around Enji as he walked, catching the attention of a few nearby civilians.
“WAHHH! IT’S THE NUMBER TWO PRO HERO HAWKS AND!... Endeavor.” A teenage girl squealed, her voice dropping low when she saw Enji next to him.
A flock of people came to Hawks, the crowd completely ignoring Endeavor, (besides a few fear-stricken looks and some dirty ones,) leaving Enji to just stand there while he stood out of the people’s way.
“Woah woah! Guys guys- One at a time!”
Before Hawks knew it, a pen and a multitude of paper were being shoved in his hand for him to sign.
Writing his iconic signature with a small wing pattern hanging on the end of his ‘S’, Hawks would then hand their paper back with a smile.
“Woah. Thanks, dude!” A teenage boy chirped, he and his friends fawning over the poster he got signed.
“Anytime, anytime.” Hawks chuckled, tilting his head up and flashing the peace sign as he took a selfie with the same teenage girl that squealed his name, her face flushed immensely as her body slumped against Hawks.
She looked like she was about to pass ou-
“KENEKO! Oh dear..” The teen had suddenly passed out, a lazy smile on her face as her friends immediately went to her aid, slinging their arms around her to hoist her up.
“Whoops, It seems like your friend there couldn’t handle my charm.” Hawks chuckled, sending some of his feathers to help pick up Kaneko.
“Thank you Number Two-!” Her friend thanked Hawks, her voice slightly breathy from the exertion before walking towards a nearby cafe to seat their friend down.
Hawks waved at the girl and her friend before turning to Enji who was clearly trying to blend in with the wall, not making any motions to interact with the crowd.
“C'mon' Enji! Loosen up a little- How are you gonna make the media not only see you as the big tough guy if you don’t act friendly?” Hawks pouted slightly, earning a glare from Endeavor.
“I will not force the media to like me if they already think I’m bad enough.”
“Enjii..”
Hawks dragged the name out, making puppy dog eyes at Endeavor as he placed his hand on his hip.
“..Fine, just this once.”
Endeavor lifted himself from the wall, walking further away from the crowd.
“ENDEAVOR!” Hawks yelped, lowering his tone back to his interview voice when a mother and her child approached him requesting a picture.
Enji didn’t tell Hawks that he did indeed try to interact with a child, before seeing them burst into tears immediately.
Walking past the cafe, hearing the throat clear of the teenager's friend, he managed not to turn back around and say something he’d probably regret.
It's not that he doesn’t mind public attention once in awhile, he just strays away from it.
You know, to get praised for the good deeds you've done does feel good.
But, given that he’s quite the workaholic and pushes away any interviews, (Except for the one with the Stain Incident,) he doesn't have the time to crave for that validation.
Not that he thinks he deserves it anyway.
Lost in thought, Endeavor stopped suddenly as he realized he walked quite a far distance.
Turning around, he could see Hawks in an even larger crowd than before, flaunting his crimson wings and Endeavor could see the smiles on everyone’s face in the crowd.
..Sometimes, when Enji gets deep in his head, he wonders how it would feel to be in Hawks’ shoes.
To be socially accepted, to not be feared, to be.. loved.
He guessed.
But, there’s no time for that.
The villain they were talking about is still on the loose, wreaking havoc in the city.
He can’t just sit around and mope in his stupid sorrows.
Clearing his throat as it suddenly felt dry, he was about to just make his way home, deciding he’d shoot Hawks a text later.
“Ahem..s-sir?”
Enji heard a girl’s voice say.
Turning back around, he spotted a girl no older than 15, maybe even 16. She had viridescent eyes with half-rimmed glasses, messy black hair with gold streaks in it, and
looked to be holding a clipboard and pen with shaky hands.
“..Would you.. would be willing to uhm..- sign a petition to help.. cute ..a-animals in need?”
The girl stuttered out, fidgeting with the pen in her left hand and holding the clipboard tightly in her right.
She made eye contact with Enji but immediately averted her gaze back to the concrete.
“It's- It's okay if not.. I just wanted to-”
“I’ll do it.” Endeavor cut the girl off, watching as her eyes lit up and her fidgeting decreased.
“Really? T-Thanks alot mister..” She paused, blinking at him a few times. “Endeavor, right?” The woman said, handing Enji the clipboard and pen.
“Yes. Yes, I am.” Endeavor responded, grazing over the paper once, not noticing how it oddly appeared to be a contact almost.
“Wow.. The number one hero.. Correct?”
“That’s me.”
Endeavor clicked the pen and began writing his signature in the space provided.
“That’s so..cool. Lucky for me..right?” The girl’s voice dropped down slightly, her eyes darkening.
“..Yes, to meet the number one hero in person is truly lucky.” Enji looked up from the paper confused at the sudden change in tone.
Furrowing his brows at the girl's face, he noticed how there was now a slight smirk on her face now, replacing that nervous grin.
“Hey..you’ve heard of that new villain right? The one you haven’t been able to catch?”
Alarms rang off in Endeavor's head, but he didn't listen to them immediately and only focused on the girl in front of him.
Hawks’ wasn't too far, he could still press the button in the middle of his belt and he would be notified.
To put more context into that, Hawks had bought both him and Endeavors matching “Emergency Belts” to put on anytime any of them were caught in a predicament or stumbled across a villain.
Endeavor thought it was completely idiotic and said that he and Hawks could fend for themselves, yet somehow Hawks managed to convince him otherwise.
Yet here he is, not pressing that damn button.
“Was that supposed to be a shot at me?” Endeavor questioned, not trying to get riled up just yet.
The girl just laughed. Laughed, in front of the number one hero’s face, waving her hand in front of her face as she gripped her sides.
“Ahh, no no. It’s just so funny how you fell for the same villain’s trick so easily ! “
What?
Suddenly, a burst of color came from the clipboard Endeavor was holding.
Trying to activate his quirk to burn it to oblivion, it wouldn’t.. work.
“Right.. Now if you read the small letters in the fine print-!” The girl- no. villain began, her voice playful, “You would've caught on to when it said.. Ahem.” The villain cleared her throat, putting her hand on her chest and puffing it out.
“Anyone who signs their name on this contact quirk shall be temporarily deactivated until a period of X days is over.”
Oh shit.
The letters on the contract lit up in a burst of gold and white, engulfing Endeavor in its radiance.
“Have fun, Number One.”
