Chapter Text
Despite debuting with the concept of having unlimited members, he never would've expected such young kids to join his group. Of course, Taeyong was aware of their talents and already met them at the survival show, but it still amazed him. He is glad that the youngest of the group will debut at an older age than when Jisung debuted, even though it’s just a 2 year difference.
The final lineup has already been revealed, they released a pre-debut single and they've even had a pre-debut tour. They’re also filming a variety show, so they’re quite busy. Same goes for his own unit. They’re busy with preparing for promotions and award shows. Which is why Taeyong hasn’t been able to visit the newest addition to his group. Sure, he has seen them occasionally at the company, but they would be working hard for their upcoming debut and he would feel guilty to suddenly interrupt them.
Which is why he asked his manager to ask the new unit’s manager for their schedules. Although it took quite some convincing, his final statement was that he deserves to know as he is their leader as well. After 127 practice ended, he stayed behind a practice a bit more as usual. Just a few minutes later, he received a mail from his manager. He opened it to see what it was and realised that it was the exact thing he wanted. He decided to go home early and practice another time, so he could see the full pdf that he received on his computer.
Once he got back home, he immediately went in his room, leaving a puzzled Doyoung in the living room. He started his pc up and opened the mail, clicking on the file that was added. It was a pdf of the current schedules of the new unit. He wasn’t surprised at how packed it was, it brought him back to when he was working hard in order to debut and even harder when for his debut.
“Woah, who’s schedules is that?”
A smooth, honey voice suddenly spoke behind him. He jumped slightly in surprise and turned around despite already knowing who it was from the voice. “Haechan-ah, what did I tell you about sneaking up on people? And what are you even doing here?”
Donghyuck pouted at him, “You came home earlier than expected and went in your room without any explanation. I just wanted to check up on you.” He said playfully, but his voice was laced with worry.
Taeyong softened at the younger and pinched his cheek, making Donghyuck giggle. “I’m fine, don’t worry. I had to check something on my pc so I hurried back home. And to answer your question, this is the schedule of the newest unit.” He answered.
He slid his rolling chair back and patted his lap, motioning the youngest to sit, which he gladly did. Taeyong, however, immediately regretted it. “Gosh, sometimes I forget you’re not as small and light as the child you were when we debuted.” He groaned as he wrapped an arm around Donghyuck’s waist, keeping him in place.
“Hyung, that was more than 7 years ago. Are you keeping up with the time, or are you already getting too old?” The younger teased, leaning into his touch. Taeyong rolled his eyes, but a small smile appeared on his face. “Very funny, Hyuck. Have you even realised you’re older than 10 other Nct members now?” Donghyuck’s eyes immediately widened as he sat up and stared the older right into his eyes.
“I haven’t even thought about that.” He sighed, “Oh, the times when I was the youngest of our group. It only lasted a month before the Dreamies debuted, but it still existed.” He said dramatically and fell back on Taeyong’s chest.
The older chuckled and patted his head. “Don’t worry, you’re still our forever maknae of 127.” He focused back on the screen and opened the files with the schedules of all the other units as well. He minimised the pdf’s, making all four files fit the screen. Donghyuck followed every move before he finally decided to comment on it.
“So hyung, why do you have the schedules of all the members open? Are you planning something again?”
“I’m thinking of inviting everyone to one place in honor of the newest members, like we did in 2020.”
Donghyuck beamed. “That sounds fun! I can tell from experience, the babies are really talented, but also really shy. Similar to Taro at his and Sungchanie’s welcoming party. Oh, speaking of them, have you heard their newest song, 'Talk Saxy'? I think I'm falling in love with Sohee's voice after that bridge.” He ranted.
The older hummed in . "Of course I have, I even visited their practice room when they were practicing for their comeback." He smiled, but Donghyuck exaggerated a hurt expression and gasped dramatically. "Seriously? Sungchanie didn't even invite me! After everything I've done for him..." He pouted jokingly.
Taeyong laughed. “Stop sulking, he was probably too busy to message you. I just happened to come across their practice room and greeted them, that's all." He explained before continuing. "So, have you already spoken with them? The new members, I mean? What do you think of them?”
Donghyuck thought a bit, “Not recently, but I have met them at the survival show. I was a special judge, so I saw them perform as well.” His eyes lit up as he continued. “Oh, right! That guy who did my high notes in 90’s love, Daeyoung was his name I think, he was so amazing! His high notes in the TVXQ-sunbaenim's cover was also so impressive. And the youngest, Sakuya, if I remember correctly, has such a baby face yet a really deep voice. He’s like a Japanese and younger version of Jisungie! But that Yushi guy really stood out to me, his voice is so smooth and unique!” He spoke excitedly.
“You mean his voice is similar to yours?” Taeyong added when he finished talking, making Donghyuck roll his eyes, but he didn’t deny it. The older smiled, “I see you really like them. Do you know if anyone has their numbers? I want to add them to the Nct all members group chat so I can invite everyone at once.”
The younger shook his head, "I think Yuta-hyung might have at least one of their numbers, but I suggest you ask their manager. I assume you have his number, right?" Taeyong nodded and pulled out his phone. Donghyuck watched him message the new team's manager, asking politely for the numbers of the members.
Quickly after he received a thumbs up emoji along with six unknown phone numbers. "That's quick, he didn't even question you." Donghyuck pointed out. Taeyong shrugged, "He probably already knows I'm planning something, concidering how I already had to convince him to send the schedules earlier."
"Or he just had enough of you and didn't want to argue anymore." Donghyuck grinned, making the older pinch his thigh, gaining a yelp from the younger. "You're insufferable, Hyuck." He sighed.
"And who do you think I got that from?"
"Doie?"
"Good answer."
It was surprising, really. Never would he expect a dm from the one and only Lee Taeyong from NCT. Well, maybe not never, as he himself is from that same group. It was bound to happen, of course, Taeyong is the leader of the group he joined, but he was still surprised.
Sion was talking with Riku during the break. They have a 6-hour practice scheduled for the day, and they still have 2 more hours to go. The younger was telling him about a ramen restaurant nearby that he wanted to check out with the six of them, until his phone buzzed on the couch. Riku stopped talking and motioned him to check it out, as it might be a message from their manager as usual. However, the actual sender was someone he didn’t expect to message him so soon. Especially since this phone number is his private one that only his family, the other five members of his unit and his manager has.
Riku noticed his wide eyes and tilted his head, “Who is it?” He was about to lean over the screen to see, but Sion threw his phone in the air, which landed on the pile of bags behind him and bounced onto the floor. At that point, everyone’s attention was on him. They were all surprised at the sudden flying phone, Yushi was the first to comment on it.
“Hyung, what was that for?! You could’ve broken your phone!” Sion finally realised what he had done and quickly stood up to check up on his phone. He sighed in relief after seeing that it was still alive, except for the few little cracks and one big crack on the edge that appeared on his previously clear screen protector.
Riku sighed, “Jeez, if you didn’t want me to know, you could’ve just told me. You didn’t have to throw your phone in the fucking air.” He shook his head. Sion quickly waved it off, “No, no, it’s not that. Sorry, I was just surprised.” He laughed awkwardly. Ryo looked back and forth at the two of them.
“What happened?” He eventually asked. Sion cleared his throat before replying, “I got a message while Riku and I were talking, and it just surprised me because I thought it was manager-hyung, but instead it was someone else who I didn’t expect.” He explained. “If it wasn’t manager-hyung, then who was it?” Sakuya asked curiously.
“You might not believe it, but it was Taeyong-ssi.”
If only Taeyong knew how much chaos would be in the practice room after he sent that message. They all ran up to Sion to look at the eldest’s phone, and there it was in all its glory.

Yushi clapped excitedly, “Woah, guys! We’re getting added to the nct group chat! Someone, slap me so I know it’s real.” He blurted out. Daeyoung, who sat on the opposite side of him, beamed and immediately stood up. “Gladly.” He said before Sion pulled him back down. “Daeyoung-ah, stop, no one is slapping anyone.” The oldest sighed, making Daeyoung frown.
“Hyung, why’d you stop me? That was like my one and only chance to slap him with consent?” Ryo and Sakuya giggled together, but stopped as soon as they noticed Riku’s unimpressed yet fond stare. Sion massaged his temples, “Seriously, why am I stuck with all of you.” He mumbled to himself. But the others heard him and Riku tackled him in a hug.
“Aw, I know you love us, Onion-chan!” He hugged him tightly. “It’s Sion-hyung to you. And get off of me, you’re sweaty!” The other members laughed at them and Riku chuckled, but he eventually let go. “Fine, fine. Now, where’s my squishy?” He scanned the room until he locked eyes with the youngest, causing Sakuya to stop laughing.
“Saku-chan~” Riku called out with a smile and grabby hands. Ryo tapped the youngest on the back and Sakuya quickly evaded Riku when the older was about to tackle him.
“Squishy, come here!”
“No!”
“How about this Friday? 127 and Dream are free the whole day, WayV only has vocal and rap lessons in the morning and the new unit has practice again, but I can take care of that. It’s the closest to everyone being available.” Taeyong suggested as he pointed to the information on the screen with his left hand, considering how his right hand is occupied with caressing Donghyuck’s hair.
Donghyuck hummed, “I think Renjunie and Yangyang made plans to hangout on that day, but I’m sure they’ll move it to another day if we explain our plan to have a full group hangout and welcoming’s party. Same goes for Johnny-hyung, he could skip a day to the gym for this, and Jeno and Jaemin could go biking earlier in the morning. Jaehyun-hyung was also planning to hangout with Mingyu-hyung and Eunwoo-hyung, but I think that got canceled due to Mingyu-hyung's last-minute schedule.” He said as he tried to remember all the plans the others told him they had.
The leader blinked, he looked at the younger in suspicion. "Why do you know all this?" But Donghyuck just giggled. "You don't have to worry about that." He said before taking a sip of the water bottle that Taeyong left on the desk. Taeyong sighed once again and pushed his chair back.
"Get off, my legs are going numb." Donghyuck complied surprisingly easily and landed back on his own feet. He stretched a bit before resting his hands in his hips. "I'm gonna go to the WayV dorms. They're gonna finish practice in about 10 minutes, so I got to be there before they arrive." He grinned mischievously and gave one last hug to Taeyong, leaving the room and dorm soon after.
The latter stood dumbfounded, he sighed for the nth time that day because of the younger and massaged his temples. "I'm not even gonna ask what he's planning to do there." He mumbled to himself and continued some pending work. It was only after ten minutes that he turned his computer off and left his room.
He walked over to the kitchen and got a bottle of wine along with two wine glasses. As he entered the living room, he noticed Doyoung typing unsually fast on his phone with a stressed expression. He sat down next to him on the couch and poured in a glass each, giving the other one to the younger, who accepted it gratefully. "Thanks, I really needed this. Also, do you know where Hyuck went? I saw him leave the dorm in a hurry earlier."
Doyoung asked him as he took a sip of the glass. "To the WayV dorms, apparently. He didn't explain why, and I don't think I want to know." Taeyong leaned into the couch. "Isn't Johnny-hyung there as well?" The younger asked. Taeyong sighed as he remembered the older member telling him he would hang out at the other dorm once Ten got back. "I was hoping Hyuck would actually behave if there's an older member, but I'm pretty sure Johnny will only support him. He has quite the soft spot for that little devil."
"I reckon he's going to bother Ten again, or do some suspicious things with Yangyang. Although, I hope it isn't the latter. Last time they hung out together, they ended up kidnapping a cat because they though it was cute. Not to mention how they managed to ruin the whole bathroom at one of the WayV dorms because they tried to bathe the cat." Doyoung shivered as he thought about that day where all the older members of the group had to get involved.
"That was a nightmare indeed, I had never seen Kun that mad, ever." Everyone knew Kun had the patience of a saint, so seeing him that furious was certainly unexpected. "Seriously! Remind me to never get on his bad side." The two of them agreed on that.
Taeyong glanced at the younger's screen. "Why were you typing so fast, though? Who were you talking to?" He finally asked. Doyoung raised an eyebrow at him. "Have you checked the NCT groupchat? Ever since you added the new babies it has been absolute chaos. You would think they'd be too shy to talk with everyone, but remember that they certainly are NCT."
The older's eyes widened and he immediately pulled out his phone. Much to his amazement, there were more than a thousand messages in the span of roughly fifteen minutes in the group chat called 'National Childbirth Trust', named by yours truly, Lee Donghyuck. "What the..." As he was joining in on some conversations, it made realise exactly what Doyoung meant. They already managed to fit in perfectly and have even formed friendships.

"I am currently rethinking my plans of having a full group hangout." Taeyong deadpanned. Doyoung's head immediately snapped to look at the older, "You were what?" That was when Taeyong realised that he hasn't told anyone except for Donghyuck about his plans.
He nodded in confirmation. "I'm planning to invite all the members to hangout and have a welcoming's party for the new members and unit, like last time." Doyoung smiled widely, "That sounds fun! When are you planning to do it?"
"This friday, I am currently getting everything ready. I'm gonna have to convince management to cancel the new unit's practice on that day, because other than that there is nothing else in schedule for anyone." Taeyong explained.
He clicked on the other group chat with all the members, from the beginning they made two seperate full group group chats. The first one, which is the one that they were talking in, is for pure entertainment and no rules attached. The other is for work or important announcements, which can include meetings, schedules or just full-group hangouts.

Taeyong and Doyoung leaned into the couch, enjoying their beverages. "You know, I'm actually excited to see the other kids again. I know we saw them recently at the NCT Nation concerts, but every time it feels like a family reunion between the units." Doyoung suddenly confessed. The older looked at him and smiled.
"I know how you feel, this is also the first full-group hangout with the complete group. No one will be added anymore, it sounds crazy when you think about it. We debuted with the concept of having unlimited members, and now it has come to an end." Taeyong stopped for a bit, reminiscing about all the time they spent together."
He chuckled lightly. "I'm suddenly feeling really emotional." This time, the younger laughed with him. "Hyung, it might be because of the wine. You always get emotional when you're drunk." Taeyong whined lightly and pouted, although he didn't deny it. He's seen enough videos of him holding speeches of appreciation to his members when they go out drinking.
"I have a feeling there will be even more chaos, based on the chats just now." The leader sighed, despite being excited, he's also quite concerned for the younger members. Doyoung snickered and placed his wine glass on the table before standing up and stretching.
"We just got to make sure that we don't leave Hyuck, Jaemin, Yangyang and Riku in one room."
"Gosh, that would be hell."
The younger walked to the door to the hallway and turned around. "I'm gonna buy some groceries and snacks for next week, wanna come?" Taeyong nodded and walked along after putting both glasses and the bottle in the kitchen. He went into his room to get his bag and wallet and went to the front door where Doyoung was waiting for him.
A few minutes later, the two of them just left the main door of the apartment when a shoe got thrown down the ledge from an upper floor, startling him and the older next to him. Taeyong looked at him and he looked back, giving each other confused looks. "Which idiot threw their shoe all the way down to the ground?" The older questioned. Doyoung shrugged, he was about to reply back until they heard shouting from upstairs.
"Look at what you've done, Woo! Now I have to go all the way down to get my shoe!"
"It's your fault, you started it, Yuta!"
Taeyong froze when he realised that it wasn't just a random idiot's shoe that was thrown down, it was his idiot's shoe. He couldn't keep count of how many times he sighed that day, but the one after the realisation was certainly the heaviest one with the most disappointment. He massaged his temples and crouched down. Why am I stuck with these crazy people...
"Oh, fancy seeing you guys here. Very random, but have you seen my shoe..." Yuta suddenly came up from behind them after slamming the main entrance door open. Taeyong stayed crouched on the ground so Doyoung took it upon himself to pick up the shoe and give it to the older member. "Here you go, hyung."
Yuta sighed in relief and accepted it, immediately putting it back on. "Thanks, but what's his problem." He looked confused at the stressed out leader on the ground. Doyoung shook his head and pushed him back inside. "Oh, nothing, he's fine. Just contemplating his life decisions. Anyway go back upstairs, we have to go do the groceries."
Before the older could say anything back, the door was shut in his face, so they couldn't hear each other anymore. Doyoung saw Yuta giving him a confused look, but then he shrugged and walked away soon after. "Hyung, stand up, we still have to go to the convenience store." Taeyong nodded and stood up with a grunt. He picked up his bag that he dropped and held his hand out for the younger in front of him.
"Let's get the snacks for the kids."
