Work Text:

"Ghost - how copy?" you mumble into your phone teasingly.

He sighs deeply, "Shut up. Where are you?"

You look up from your spot, crouched next to the tall walls of the military base. There's one guard up front in the watchtower, while the second one is strolling around in front of the gates. 'Nobody gets in, nobody gets out, huh?'

You lower your tone as you speak. "Near the gates."

He hums, and you hear some rustling on his end. Some heavy footsteps are heard, even though he's trying his best to make them feather-light.

You wait patiently with your phone in hand, waiting for any damn signal. This is probably the most stressful thing you've done. And not to mention stupidest.

"Gate A?" he asks roughly. You look up hastily and notice the big sign, Gate B. "Uh.." you mumble, "B."

He groans and you stiffle a laugh. "Bloody hell, girl. You're making this way harder than it's supposed to be." he complains. "Circle 'round to A."

You huff out a breath, "Fine." And with that, you start slowly moving, keeping your feet together as you walk, and your footsteps light.

While still on call with Ghost, you manage to make your way to the other gate. The first thing you notice is Ghost, observing and standing menacingly with his arms crossed, eyes on the back of his head. You immediately smile at the sight.

The second your eyes meet, his shoulders relax and his gaze softens.

The guards are standing not far from him, sucked into a conversation between the two of 'em. How the hell is he just standing there freely?

You're not sure if you should approach the entrance. The guards will damn well see you.

His voice is heard through your phone again. "You just gonna stand there?"

You scoff. "Am I allowed to come in?" you whisper.

He nods his head. You finally stand up fully, straightening your back. "Bribed the guards." he mutters proudly.

You laugh at that. "With money? Or by threatening them?"

He smiles, you can see the way the corners of his eyes crinkle where the skin is visible. Always wearing that damn balaclava of his.

When there's no response, you end the call and put your phone back into your pocket. You come up to the gate, watching as the guards open it. Now this is princess treatment.

You greet them quietly, still a little tense. This is the first time you've ever been on a damn military base. Also - illegally.

The two men nod their heads and make their way to the watchtower, but not before fully closing the gate behind you.

Now it's just you and Ghost.

The second you catch sight of him again, your body works faster than your brain. You run into him, pulling him into a swift and tight hug that knocks the wind out of his lungs. He immediately wraps his arms around you, holding you close.

It's been too damn long. Simon, your close friend, has been stuck on base for fucking months now.

He's snuck out of the barracks, having Johnny cover his back. Good lad he is.

Finally, after all this time, all you can feel is him. All you can think about is him.

He finally lets out the breath he was holding, sighing against the top of your head. You look up slightly and notice that his balaclava is lifted just up to his nose, revealing the lower part of his face. He looks so damn kissable.

What?

'Kissable'?

How stupid. Don't think that.

Before you can fight with yourself over your weird thoughts, a low voice breaks you out of your trance.

"I've missed ya." he says quietly, his tone sounding a little hesitant even. You immediately lean back and smile up at him, staring into his pretty eyes. "I've missed you too." you whisper back.

Before he can say much more, you can't help but put your hands on his cheeks, softly caressing the scarred skin. Is that a new scar again?

It's been too long - you're not even sure.

His breath hitches as he stares down at you. The way you're holding his face, as if he's a piece of fragile glass, makes his heart jump.

Fuck, he's a soldier for fuck's sake. Why do you have such a strong effect on him? He's learned to keep his emotions hidden, to keep to himself. But you - you manage to break down all of his damn walls with just one look. Those eyes of yours are gonna be the death of him.

He smiles, genuinely. His hands make way to yours, softly holding your wrists as you keep caressing his cheeks.

The silence is broken by you. "When are you coming back?"

He sighs, closing his eyes as he leans into your touch. "I don't know." he murmurs. The words make your heart shatter. How fucking long is he gonna have to be stuck here?

You know it's part of the job. He knows it too. But you miss him so damn much. He misses you too.

He's not the best at expressing his feelings - he shouldn't get attached to anyone or anything. He can be standing here today, staring into your eyes lovingly, and then go back out to the field tomorrow, earning a shot to the heart by a stray bullet. And then you'll never see him again. He'll never see you.

The thought crosses his mind but he quickly pushes it aside. You're here now.

Ghost is in just some grey sweatpants along with a black shirt [and that damn balaclava]. He looks like he's just woken up. Quite the opposite, actually. Knowing that he'll finally get to see you again has made him sleepless. Not that he'd admit it.

You look up into his eyes again. One of your hands trail further up, slightly tugging at his balaclava. You tilt your head to the side as in in-question.

He finally nods, just a little bit.

You smile and tug his balaclava off completely, holding it in your hand as you stare at his bare face. You sigh out softly, "Hello, Simon."

He swallows thickly. "Hello." and then he mumbles your name quietly.

You hand him the balaclava and he shoves it into his pocket, and you notice how it's slightly poking out of the pocket now. Finally, no more Ghost. Just Simon.

Your attention is focused on him again. He places his hand on the back of your head, softly playing with your hair. The feeling makes your eyes flutter shut for a second, to which he smirks at. Oh, how he's missed you.

Ghost opens his mouth to speak, but before any words come out, your hold on his cheeks tightens as you suddenly bring his face to yours, slamming your lips against his.

A groan escapes him as he stares down at you, wide-eyed. He accidentally grips your hair tightly from shock. He immediately let's go and puts his hand on the back of your head again, a little more gentle this time.

He closes his eyes as he feels your lips against his. Fucking hell. He pulls your head closer to his to deepen the kiss.

The kiss is eager but loving, nobody wanting to pull away. You finally do, though, pulling back and staring up at him. His face is fucking flushed - and so is yours.

You glare at him, shocked at what you've just done. Your hands immediately leave his face and you avoid his piercing gaze. "Fuck- I'm so sorry. I-"

Your words get cut off by him leaning in swiftly to kiss you again. You close your eyes immediately, melting into his touch. This time he pulls back, his breathing heavy and uneven, his eyes half-lidded. You feel as if it's just the two of you in the whole world.

He smiles at you with those slightly red cheeks of his. Nobody says a word. There's not much to say, even though there is.

He pulls you into a hug again, holding your head against his chest. He's holding you tightly - too tightly, but you don't care. It feels nice.

God, he makes you nervous. Your heart is pounding, his touch leaving your skin on fire.

The moment is broken by those same two guards. They pause in slight shock when they see you two, clinging onto eachother as if the world was ending. Not to mention Ghost's lack of balaclava. He doesn't even care at this point.

One of them clears his throat before speaking. "Ah, sorry for ruinin' the moment, but-" he turns to look at just you now. "You've gotta go." he says - not in a cruel way. His tone is soft, almost sympathetic.

Ghost sighs deeply.

"My girl. I'll be there to see you soon." he mutters into your hair. "I promise."

'My girl?'

You like - no, love, the sound of that.

You nod your head and lean back, staring up at him. Ghost leans in and kisses you once more, a little harshly this time. Your stomach flips. He again leaves another quick peck to your lips before reluctantly leaning back.

"I'll wait for you, Simon."

The gates behind your back are heard opening just for you once again.

You give his cheek a little tap, smiling warmly before turning around and making your way out the gate.

He watches you the whole way, watching as the entrance is closed off again, the metal bars separating you two once again. You give him one last look, smiling and sticking your tongue out at him playfully.

He chuckles, smiling back.

Then you're gone.

He stands in the same spot as where you just were mere seconds ago. He can still feel your lips brushing against his, your hands on his cheeks.

"Aye, Lieutenant, ya've gotta go mate. Sorry." he hears.

He makes quick work of putting his balaclava back on, not caring that the guards saw his face anyway. Now it's just Ghost again.

It's always Ghost until it comes to you. With you - he's just Simon.
