Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Scarlet was taking point up into the tower. Watching over the others walking in the Hq. Humming softly to themself as they looked through their scope, ears pinning back so they wouldn’t pick up the wrong sounds. “Bravo 2- to Alpha how copy?” Breaks through the coms, making the sniper jump, tail swishing rapidlyraplily in annoyance. “Alpha to bravo 2. I see you guys. You’re clear to enter the building.” They report before watching the others disappear.

Soon a loud sound emits in the air. A bomb goes off which causes the male's heart to drop and their ears perk up. “We are under fire. I repeat we are under fire!” Soaps' voices broke through. Causing the sniper to quickly grab their gear. Throwing the rope over the edge. Feet slipping onto the railing as one leg gets thrown over. Eyes casted to the ground in fear, ears pinning back again. Blocking out all noises around them. Heights weren't their strong suit. But what they didn’t notice was the person sneaking up. Nor the sound of a gun cocking. But what they did hear was the gun being shot

A bullet striking them dead between the eyes, their body plummeting down 30 feet. Their tan hair slowly gets sticky with blood. Hitting the grass with a wet thunk. Dead. Dead while everyone else thought he was alive. Voices break through the come again. “Alpha how copy?” Breaks through, once he doesn't get a response he starts to worry. “Alpha come in, alpha we need you down here!” Ghost yelled into the coms before they went dead

Once the sniper didn’t answer the wraith hybrid growls softly and looks around. Slamming his hand into the floor and letting his wraith free. Black tendrils taking over most of the place. Trapping enemies and ripping them apart in seconds. The others look on in shock and amusement.

“Flood isn’t answering the mic!” He calls out as he lets go of the floor. Standing up to run back out the door. A hand gripping his shirt to stop him from running back. A soft sigh leaves the smaller male's mouth. “Ghost it's no use. Flood probably ran o to time technical difficulties, maybe we lost service in here?.” The smaller offers to the enraged man. Ghost only flashes a dark look at the small tiger hybrid. “I don’t care. Flood would have came in if that was the truth!” He lashes before breaking free

Feet pounding on the floor as he booked it back the way he came. Praying to whatever god would listen to him. Praying that he would find Flood alive and ready to fight. But once he broke out the door his heart dropped. Tears forming in his eyes at the sight of tan hair laying on the ground. Their sniper off to the side in clear evidence that they had fallen down. “SCARLET!” He screams as he runs up to the hybrid. Kneeling down and pulling the male into his lap.

Hands racking through the male's hair with a frown on his lips. Tears dripped down his cheeks, wetting up the mask he had on. “Soap is gonna kill me”. He whispers before attempting to lift the poor body. Grunting as he did so. Blood dripped at a fast rate, causing the male to get soaked in no time as he carried to male to a safe space. “Soap come in.” He says through the coms while sitting against the wall, cradling the body. His voice weak and shaky

Soon a response is heard. “This is Soap. What’s the matter, Ghost?” He questions in a worried tone, hearing the way the cold hearted man acted. “I’m outside on the wall, one KIA…” he whispers as he rocked back and forth. He had grown attached to the small jaguar, he was like a little brother to the wraith hybrid. All he heard next was a bloody murder scream echo through the air. It had to have been Soap screaming like that. He had lost his mate, the one he swore to protect with his life.

His own heart sinks as he nuzzles the small male's hair. Kissing over it slowly with a small hum, a lullaby. “I’m sorry scarlet. We should have brought you with us.” He whispers before seeing soap running out with a bunch of people falling on him. The hostages they were there for. All of a sudden a bright green flare shoots into the air causing the male to smile softly. “Good to see you captain!” He hums in the cons. Standing up and trying his best to adjust the body. Throwing them over his shoulder as he ascended up the rope that was thrown down.

He could feel eyes on him as he went over the wall. Eyes full of sorrow and regret. Something he never wanted to see in his entire life again. “One KIA cap.” He mutters to the older man before going over the other side. Running over to a car to lay the body down. Covering it up with his jacket before trying to help the others. Price watched him with hawk-like eyes. Afraid he would snap at any moment. Which he did once he was on the wall. Letting the wraith go free again. It swallowed the area in a matter of seconds. Killing anyone in its path that dared to cause harm.

*POV change Gaz pov*

Gaz sat there. Gun in hand before it slipped from his grip, watching the tallest man slip of the rail with scarlet in hand. Tears start to pour down his cheeks as a smal sob slips past his lips. “Scarlet…” he whimpers and tries to follow the man. Hands shaking too much to get ahold of the rope. So all he done was watch from afar. More tears slipping down. His wings tucking down so flat against his back. Making him seem so small.

It wasn't until Ghost came back up and let his powers free that he snapped out of it. Helping the male beside him fight things. Shooting with dangerous acracey and skill. Hands were still a little shaky from all the blood that he saw but he was fine. Well I til he was told to rally into the same car that the body laid in. His heart sank as he opened the door and crawled in. Trying to cradle the body once he got a chance. “Oh god scarlet I’m so sorry. I should have helped, I should have arrived sooner!” He cries as the others watch him. Smelling the distress in the air.

The pack was now losing a member which struck everyone hard as a rock. Tears now coming to everyone’s eyes as the two youngest are now knocked back down to one. Their hearts felt like they were ripped from their chest. Seeing the blood pool on the floor. Tan hair now dark with blood and dirt. “It’s all my fault!” Gaz sobs and pulls the body close to his face. He gave it soft kisses before being pulled back by a strong hand. Price couldn’t stand the sorrow in the air. Holding Gaz close to his chest with a sigh. “It’s fine Gaz. It’s no one but the Shadows fault… Grave’s fault” he hums and pays his back softly

Ghost sighs at the sight before him, eyes still giving off black smoke before he reaches over. Petting the youngest hair with a gentle smile. “Gaz it’s not your fault. Scarlet knew the risks of staying behind and guarding us from the others. They knew they would get hurt.” He sighs before looking out the window. Watching the trees and streets fly by till they got to the base. Carrying the body inside to Medic bay. Everyone breaks down at the announcement of Scarlet's death. They knew they were dead but refused to believe it. To believe the youngest pack mate is gone. The omega of the group.

The funeral wasn’t long after. It was a small one since they didn’t want a big one. Never in their life did they want to have a lot of people watching them go under the ground. Just a small group of their pack and mates. Mabey their family if they decided to show, which they never did. Ghost stood in the far back. Watching from a distance. Feeling his own heart get colder and colder by the second. His soul falling apart second by second. One that took years to fix had now been shattered in a day

Soon the others walk over with a small sigh. Hands brushing the male as they walked by. Ghost only growls and follows behind them. Head to the ground, the smell of rain filling the air as it started to downpour. A perfect setting for their moods of the day. “Ghost keep up!” A voice called out, making the wraith jump and look up at the leader. Seeing his ears now pinned to his skull. The poor panther hybrid, shifting from foot to foot in annoyance. Wanting away from the graveyard. All clearly heartbroken, losing their only omega in the group.
