“No secrets.” Says Lucy to Tim. He looks over at her and she holds his stare. He nods his head and then takes traces his finger down her arm.
“No secrets.” He agrees. Lucy grins and curls up more into him and slots her leg between his so he doesn’t move away. They have been sleeping together for a week and Lucy has already gotten used to him next to her and she doesn’t like when he gets up out of bed.
“Weird question.” Lucy says and Tim looks over at her eyebrows raised. “When did Ashley break up with you exactly?”
Tim swallows a little bit and plays with some of her hair that landed on his pillow. He twirls it around his finger and then lets it go. He takes a deep breath and Lucy wonders if he will actually tell her. She’s not even sure why she’s asking, but it seemed so random and out of the blue.
“When I was in the hospital.” He says quietly. “After surgery.” Lucy’s whole body freezes as she looks at him, her eyes wide.
“I’m sorry what?” She asks and she feels a rush over anger towards his ex. She broke up with him while he was laying in bed unable to move?
Tim must sense something because he puts a hand on her arm, “It’s okay Luce. I wasn’t heartbroken. It just—”
“It was cruel.” Lucy says through her teeth. “You couldn’t even move. Why didn’t you tell me this?”
Tim sighs running a hand up her arm. “It’s a little embarrassing to be broken up that way. And I didn’t want you to worry.” He says. Lucy lets out a small breath, and moves in closer.
“Just like you didn’t want anyone telling me you had emergency surgery.” She says.
“You had enough on your plate Luce. I didn’t want to distract you and if you knew I was alone…” Tim says and Lucy sighs softly combing her fingers through his hair. He’s right, she would have been worried sick.
“Tim.” She says. “I would have been worried no matter what. I still can’t believe she did that.”
Tim twirls her hair around his finger again, and then lets it unwind and watches as it falls again. “Lucy, Ashely and I were never going to work. She wanted me to retire so we could travel. She didn’t want kids or marriage. She was all wrong for me.” He says. He looks at her and then looks away.
“What?” She asks. She scoots so she can rest her elbow on his chest. He smiles at her now, lifting her chin up so he can kiss her.
“Well…” He says. “Ashley was also a distraction from you.” He says. “I had feelings for you. Strong feelings and I didn’t think you felt the same way after—” He trails off but she fills in the blank.
Vegas.
“I’m sorry Tim. I didn’t—” Lucy starts but Tim leans forward to kiss her again.
“It’s okay Luce. We are in a good place now and we are together.” He says. She nods and then sits up and falls back onto her pillow. There’s a few minutes of silence and then Tim pokes her side, “Lucy.” He says slowly. “What’s wrong?”
Lucy looks at him. “If Ashley hadn’t broken up with you. Would you still be with her?” She asks. And would she still be with Chris?
Tim doesn’t answer right away but she sees many emotions flash across his face. “Maybe.” He answered honestly. “Or maybe I would have broken up with her myself.”
“Do you think you would have pushed me about Chris?” She asks. Tim makes a face at her ex boyfriend”/ name and she doesn’t blame him.
“Maybe. If I saw that you were uncomfortable.” Tim answers. “I wanted to be with you Lucy. I could see you weren’t happy with Chris.”
Lucy shuffles over and lays her head on his chest and looks up at him. “You are right.” She says. “We are here now. I’m happy and you are—”
“Extremely happy.” Tim finishes for her. Lucy smiles and drums her fingers in his stomach.
“Me too.” She says. Tim runs his fingers through her hair, and then taps her so she will look up at him.
“Hmm.” She hums. He kisses her once and then twice and then again each of the kisses getting a little dirtier.
“Enough about exes and all the stuff in the past.” He says. He rolls over so he’s hovering over her and she giggles, she can’t help it. Tim is quite literally the best she’s ever had. It’s different with him. He cares about her first and then himself. He wants to pleasure her no matter what.
She grins as he swoops down to kiss her, and she wraps her legs around him.
And all thoughts of their exes and how they broke up leaves her mind as his hands roam her body.
This is it what mattered. This was more important.
And not for the first time, she thinks how happy she is that she took that leap with Tim. Because this was worth it.
