Robert had dreamed of this day but now that it was finally here, he didn't know what to think. He would finally be free and he could go home. But where is home, that was the question he didn't know if he wanted the answer. Sitting on his bed and knowing that this was the last day inside should be happy day.
"Good morning Robert. You must be happy. Your last day inside. You get a new chance." Said Robert's only friend in jail who happened to be prison guard, Tom.
"Actyally I wanted to give you something. It's not much but here is some money so you can book a motel to one night and then you can go home."
Robert was happy that all this years he had someone who he could call a friend. He would gone mad without Tom.
"Thanks Tom, but you really should't. What if it gives you some trouble."
"Don’t worry Robert. You deserve this money and the freedom. Go and get your family back."
"Who knows what my family thinks about me after all this years." Only thing what Robert really wanted to do was go and give his family a big hug. He just didn't know if they wanted to see him. That's what jail does to you. It mess your head.
24 hours later.
Robert had spent first night in motel and he took long shower and he felt more himself than years. Now he sat in a taxi and was on his way to Emmerdale. His plan was go to see Vic and if Vic would be happy to see him then it would be easier to see others.
Taxi drive went sooner than he think and soon he stand on Vic's doorway. Before he could do anything, someone called his name.
"Robert? Is it really you?"
Wait a minute. That voice sounds familiar. Robert could reconise that voice anytime even after all this years. Is Robert ready to see him. He just needs to turn around and his... his what... ex husband... his soulmate... his Aaron...
Robert turned around and yes there Aaron was. He looked as handsome as Robert remember.
"Robert. Wait.. what. It's really you." Aaron didn't know what to say. He took step closer but Robert took step back. "It's okay. It's just me."
"Sorry. I was going to see Vic. She doesn’t know I'm free. I wasn't expectind to see you and I didn't know if you want to see me."
"You idiot. Of course I want to see you. I mean... Can we go to the Mill and talk? If you are ready to talk."
"Have been out a day and you already call me a idiot." Robert have to smile to that cause it sounded so familiar and how he had missed it. "But wait... You said Mill? You still live in Mill? I thought... I don't know what I thought. But yeah we can go and talk. I can see Vic later." Going back to Mill after all this years made him nervous . What if Aaron has a new boyfriend or husband. Robert don't know if he can handle that.
They walked in silence and too soon they were inside Mill. But they weren't only ones. Robert could hear voices and he didn't know if he can handle so many people. Aaron sensed this and gave a smile and told that everything is okay.
Inside was Vic, Diane, Liv and a little boy. Could it be Seb. He is a big boy now.
"Oh Robert. Come here. We have missed you." Said Diane who gave a hug and Robert was happy to see them all but he was a little nervous.
"It's just us. You don't have to be nervous." Said Aaron and it's looks like he knew what Robert was thinking.
"I know. I'm happy to see you all. I wasn't expectind to see you all here." Robert gave hug to Vic and Liv. "Seb. You don't remember me. I'm your..."
"You are my daddy. Are you here to stay? I want you to stay. You can sleep on my bed. Can I give you a hug?"
Robert was happy. His son was back in his arms. He never wanted to let go.
"I'm here to stay, mate. I just need to talk to daddy Aaron."
"Maybe we should give you some space. What if we go to the pub. Seb, your daddys have a lot to talk about."
"Thanks Vic and Seb be a good boy."
"But daddy, are you still here when I come back?" You can see the worry on Seb's eyes.
"Of course. I'm not gonna go anywhere. I promise you that. Now give me a hug and then go with Vic and Liv."
Now that it was just Robert and Aaron they didn't know what to say. It's been years since they have seen and talked.
"Seb is a big boy. You have been a good dad I can see it. I'm happy he has you. And it was good to see Vic, Diane and Liv. I thought they don't wanna see me. And you. I can't believe you want to talk to me. I'm so sorry for everything. I hope we can be mates."
"Should we talk... I mean are you really okay?"
"Can we talk about it later. Now I wanna know if you can forgive me. I have to ask, do you have a boyfriend?"
"Do I have a boyfriend? What are you talking? I waited you and I haven't forget you. Why do you think me and Vic, Diane and Liv wanted to see you here?"
"What? Now you lost me. Did you know I'll be free today?" Robert was confused.
"I thought you know. Tom told me that you will be free and I knew that I want you home. That's why Vic, Diane and Liv was here. You belong here. If you still want me."
"Tom? From prison? How do you know him. He was my only friend in prison. I told him about you but I don't understand."
"Does it matter? You are here now. That's all that matters. I just want my husband back. If you still want me." Aaron took hold of Robert's hand and it felt so right. This was new start to them. If only Robert wanted it too.
"Of course I want you back. I have dreamed about this day. That we could be family again. You, me, Liv and Seb. That's all I want." Robert was so happy he could cry.
"Can we call Liv and Seb. I want to spent some time with my family. I know we have to talk about everything but right now this feel so right."
"Yes of course but first I want to kiss you. I have waited all this years, husband."
The kiss had never felt so right. It felt like they both could breathe again.
