Work Text:
Ren wanted to scream at the top of his lungs.
He had enough of his father’s tricks. He should’ve talked back to his mother like that.
It all started when he got called at the principal’s office and told him that his father convince the principal to make him join a test of smart kids. Ren tried to refuse the offer kindly but the principal refused and told him to give it a try.
And now he is here, with some books and all of his school notes were all there, at his desk. He wanted to curse at his father for doing this to him. He felt like he is being controlled. Rather than that, he feels like his father is forcing him into something he does not even like.
He scoffed and just continued to study until midnight. But unfortunately, he fell asleep.
___
When he woke up, it was like 7 am in the morning. Luckily, he was home alone and it was the weekend. So, he didn’t need to wake up early for school which was good for him. He got up from the chair and went down stairs as he tried to look for food since he was hungry. But, he suddenly remembered that he didn’t got enough time to cook for himself last night. He pinched himself for being that stupid. Ren was to lazy to cook at the mornings. So, he just decided to skip breakfast.
It was a good thing that he was alone since he can be himself for a while. He sighed of tiredness and felt very hollow inside. Especially deep inside his heart. He didn’t know why he was still here. Is it because of “him” stopping him from doing suicide? He hated it when he does something for someone else. Now that he think about it, how did Horo horo found out what was he gonna do. “Did he knew?” He think to himself, looking at the floor very confuse.
Just then, he heard someone knock the door, he thought it was Jun and his parents. But instead of them, It was “him.”
“Hey, Ren!” Said a boy who was older than him. “I heard that you were home alone. Wanna eat breakfast together?” He smiled at him. The look on Ren’s face has soften as he saw his friend, Horo horo. “Okay.” The young boy whispered, enough to make the ainu hear it. “Alright!” Replied the older boy.
“Isn’t it good?” Said the ainu with a grin in his face. Ren just nodded. The Chinese looked up at his friend who was eating. He then noticed that the young boy was looking at him so he look back and smile at him warmly. The young boy felt his heart skip a beat when he smiled at him. But he reminded himself not to feel that pleasure once again.
Ren had adored Horo horo after that “incident” that had happened. Especially when he still stayed by his side after that. He can be himself around him. He was like his home. But, he knew that deep inside his heart, the one who he loves and adores the most does not see him in that way.
The more he think about it, the more he felt tears in his eyes.
“Ren?” His friend ask in a concern way. “Ren! are you ok?” He got up from his seat and tried to cheer him up. The young Chinese just continued to tear up until he realized that his friend was out of his sit. “Y-you should eat first..” He stuttered. “I will not until you feel better!” Said the ainu.
“I’m alright don’t worry.” He turned around to look at his friend as he tried to smile at him.
“Ren, those kind of smiles you make won’t trick me anymore. I’ve known you very well after that incident!”
“No. You don’t know about me that much yet”
He said in a quiet voice. There was silence at the room which Ren did not mind. He’d expect Horo horo to get mad at him and leave him and never come back to him since he knew that Horo horo was that kind of person. But mostly to those people he hates. Ren thinks that Horo horo hates him because of being too annoying. “I’m just overreacting” He thought to himself.
But, instead of getting mad and leaving, he suddenly put his arms around his head and started to hug him. He moved down until he could reach his waist until he could really hug him tightly. “It’s gonna be okay. Don’t worry.” The ainu said.
The more Horo horo tells that to him, The more he wanted to cry to have such a nice and caring friend.
Ren then slowly hugged him back as he shut his eyes. Hoping that the older boy would not mind. Which he didn’t. Horo horo was happy that Ren could be himself around him.
He thought he was the luckiest guy ever.
“But, why were you crying?” Horo horo ask once again. “It’s nothing.” Ren paused. “It’s just that, I did not know that someone would come into my life and show me how the world is actually beautiful but sometimes can be dark. But, at least that ”someone“ has guided me and protected me from all cause” He smiled. “And, that someone is you, Horo.”
The older boy looked up to see the Chinese’s face. He was surprised that he was smiling so brightly. It didn’t look like those “smiles” he was doing on public though. It was very different. Way more lighter and softer. “Your welcome, Ren” said the ainu.
“Ho-Horo horo?”
“Yes?”
“Why is your face red?”
“Oh, don’t mind that”
