Work Text:
Atsumu is hates waking up early on vacations, even worse when he is in a city away from home.
It's Wednesday, which means he has to wake up early against his will.
Her mother thought it was a great idea to have her cousins take extra classes on vacation, so she took note and implemented it for her children.
She should have chosen afternoon classes instead or simply home activities instead of going out.
For Atsumu, today is a day when he wakes up earlier than usual. So he prepares and eats breakfast calmly, kisses his mom on the cheek goodbye, and also teases Osamu for waking up late.
He is the first to arrive in the living room.
He finds his favorite chair and moves it to his seat, orders the chair next to his for his friend.
In case the class is boring, he will be able to hear the gossip better so they won't be caught in the act.
"Good morning Miya" Greets one of his classmates, he was always early, but today he had beaten him to it.
"Good morning Takano."
The boy just dropped his stuff and went out, probably to the bathroom.
Atsumu was bored, so he went out to buy some cookies and enjoy his time.
But in an ironic way, he overheard a conversation that overwhelmed his morning.
"Yagi is declaring today" muttered a voice.
" When will it be? I want to see him" a different voice replied.
"I don't know the details but we have to keep an eye out for it"
Atsumu's first thought was to curse them.
Yagi, was one of his "friends". He was a nice, pleasant and kind boy. He would get very blunt and sometimes irritable, but it was part of his personality.
He had a favorable opinion until she found out that the boy liked Atsumu.
Atsmu wanted nothing to do with him.
The problem was that everyone considered him an excellent partner, loved him and even saw them together as a cute couple.
He had had enough to do with waking up early, he didn't want to worry anymore.
It would be easy to turn him down, but it was likely that others would see him in a bad light. Not that he minded, the problem was the awkwardness it created.
Atsumu quickly entered the room pretending not to hear the conversation, he took a seat and took out his phone to send a message to his friend, he had to hurry.
Atsumu's anxiety was growing, so he got up from his chair and looked out the window, sat back down and stood up again to see if his friend would arrive.
"Miya stop playing" spoke her partner who was in the background. Kiyoomi Sakusa.
Kiyoomi and Atsumu's relationship was strange. They had friends in common, so that made them close. They exchanged formalities, and the odd bit of information but nothing more. It was rare times that they exchanged anything personal.
"I'm sorry Sakusa."
"Is something wrong with you?"
"No, it's nothing."
"Come, come closer" Kiyoomi said waving her hand. He was sitting at the back of the room, the place where he always sat.
Atsumu crept closer.
Then Kiyoomi said "Put your head down, I have to tell you something. But you can stay like this unless you want everyone to know."
"Do you have a secret for me Sakusa? I didn't know you liked that too" Atsumu spoke playfully as he approached.
"Do you know what's going to happen?" was all Kiyoomi said, not even replying to Atsumu like he usually did.
Then he nervously replied "Know what?"
"Well, you know it, your nervousness shows everything. You're going to be propositioned today."
Atsumu turned away abruptly, showed an attempt at a smile and replied "Why would that be the reason to make me nervous?"
Kiyoomi didn't answer. Atsumu took it as a sign to go to his place and wait for classes to start.
As things can always go wrong, along came the Yagi boy with a bouquet of roses. Fortunately, he didn't make a move, he just went to chat with his friends. Damn it, the only thing Atsumu could wish for was to disappear at this moment and never come back.
The first hour passed without incident. Now he had to endure four more hours.
There were 10 minutes until the next teacher arrived, and that was plenty of time for that boy to manage to put together a confession scenario. Therefore, Atsumu's survival instinct said 'Run away'.
He went to the bathroom, but had an incident.
He had planned to be in the bathroom for the free 10 minutes, but as he washed his face a red liquid began to drip from his nose.
Atsumu began a walk to the infirmary receiving strange looks for carrying a paper in his nose.
When he arrived at his destination, he received a solution in exchange for minutes of rest. Shit now he had a real excuse not to get to that horrible room.
The nurse asked the reason for the bleeding, which was simple: Atsumu stopped taking his vitamins and medications because he felt better instead of taking the dosage the doctor indicated.
-
He hadn't even paid attention to the classes, and recess was starting.
His friend asked if they would eat something together, but Atsumu simply said he would return to the infirmary.
Before leaving the classroom, he heard annoyed whispers.
"Come on, Yagi, surprise him in the infirmary."
"It's an intimate place, I'm sure things will be fine."
Stupid busybodies. I definitely wouldn't go to the infirmary.
-
The only good thing about this day was that Atsumu found a wonderful place away from everyone.
No noise. No people. Just for him. He would distract himself on the phone until the break was over and return to the lounge again.
A simple plan, that went awry.
To his precious place came Kiyoomi.
"What are you doing here?" asked Sakusa "Aren't you supposed to be in the infirmary?"
"What's wrong with me being here? Now it turns out that I can't enjoy myself peacefully anymore."
Kiyoomi watched him from head to toe.
"I feel fine already, you don't have to worry about me" Atsumu added playfully.
"Fine" Kiyoomi was planning to leave until Miya stopped him.
"Are you seriously going to leave a sick person alone? What little empathy Sakusa."
Kiyoomi rolled her eyes, and took a seat to the side.
"You're running away aren't you?" blurted Sakusa.
Atsumu seemed to think over his answer. "Yes. I am."
"You think about it too much."
"I don't know any way to refuse him if he proposes, it's useless everything he does."
"Then tell him so."
"Yeah, like it's easy Mr. 'Heartbreaker'. For you it's like eating breakfast, you do it naturally.
Kiyoomi gave Atsumu an annoyed look. He had enough he would leave.
Atsumu just smiled and stopped him.
"Yeah, yeah, all right, just kidding, stay."
"Nothing guarantees me that you won't do something stupid."
"I promise, if you want I'll stay silent the whole time."
"Done"
Atsumu was grateful to have company, even though he wouldn't be able to talk, it was a relief not to be alone.
-
As Atsumu walked with Kiyoomi back to the classroom he felt a hand tug on his arm.
Atsumu flinched at the touch and breathed a sigh of relief when he realized it was his brother.
They didn't share a class, so it was hard to see him during the day.
"I heard you were in the infirmary Tsumu."
Before answering his twin, he asked Kiyoomi to wait for him.
"Why do I have to wait for you? You can go by yourself."
"Please" Atsumu replied.
Probably under normal circumstances Kiyoomi would have turned him down. But now Atsumu was overwhelmed, his request made with pleading eyes that made him give in. So he simply stepped away to give them privacy. But he still managed to overhear their conversation.
"Yes, I was there. I had a little dizzy spell and a nosebleed. Nothing important," Atsumu replied.
Osamu frowned, he hated it when his twin minimized his discomfort. "Are you really okay?"
"Yes everything is fine 'Samu', don't worry."
"Is that the only time it's happened all day?"
Atsumu didn't answer that. He couldn't lie to his brother, he would find out sooner or later and face consequences for it.
"How many times did it happen?" said Osamu with concern.
"It doesn't matter. It already happened and everything is under control."
"How many times did it happen?"
"I got my medicine back, don't worry."
"Atsumu. I'm asking you something."
"Three times. When I woke up, when I brushed my teeth in the morning and the one a while ago."
"Shit, that's several times. If it happens one more time call me, we're going home Have you eaten anything yet?".
"Sure, I ate with Sakusa, if you want you can ask her."
"Mmmm okay careful Tsumu, see you later."
Atsumu waved goodbye, then joined Kiyoomi and went on his way.
"Are you sick?" asked Sakusa.
"Did you hear the conversation?"
"Yeah, I tried to walk away but it's not like they talk quietly."
"I'm not sick, don't worry."
-
"Watch out for the stairs Miya" said Sakusa.
They only had to climb the stairs, walk a few meters and they would reach the living room. Of course Atsumu would be distracted.
"Yes I saw them. Now do you care about me or do you just feel pity?"
"Yes, I feel sorry for you, you look weak."
"Fuck off, I don't need that" Atsumu protested before quickly walking up the stairs, he was overwhelmed.
When he arrived at the living room Atsumu was greeted with surprised faces.
"What are you doing here? Miya."
"Aren't you supposed to be with Yagi?"
"What were you doing with Sakusa?"
Before Atsumu could answer all those nosy questions he heard a voice calling him from behind him.
He turned around and faced Yagi. With surprised eyes and knowing what would happen he resigned himself to live another second more.
"Miya Atsumu, you are an amazing guy, in this short time that I am getting to know you you are very capable and intelligent, there are many qualities and every time I think of them I only see you. You have a nice smile that makes me sigh, you are inside my mind all day long. That's why..."
"Stop until there" Atsumu decides he's heard enough, he raises his gaze to face Yagi but meets Sakusa's eyes. He is surprised, he never thought to see Kiyoomi make such an expression. Then he takes courage and blurts out the first thing that comes to his mind.
"I don't have feelings for you Yagi, give up everything you feel for me. I think I like someone else. Go ahead and succeed in life. Let's go inside, the class is about to start.
"Wait, take these flowers, they are your favorite."
"Who said so? If you had asked me directly what my favorite flowers are, it would have been hard to turn you down. I don't like them..." Atsumu turned away without taking the flowers.
Then everyone started to console that boy.
"Atsumu doesn't deserve you there are better people."
"Don't cry it's not worth it"
"Everything will be all right"
Atsumu simply ignored them. At last he would have peace.
-
The day was undoubtedly eventful.
Kiyoomi felt overwhelmed.
The strange feeling of something was in her chest and she didn't know the reason.
Well, she might have some idea what the reason might be.
Maybe it was the way the sweet honey eyes had fallen on him.
Maybe it was the smile that someone gave him.
Maybe it would be that companionship he didn't expect to receive.
Maybe it would be sharing his secret place with someone else.
Maybe it would be Atsumu Miya.
Kiyoomi must be crazy for thinking stupid thoughts, he would make a doctor's appointment.
He shouldn't delve any further into his feelings, he might regret it.
-
The vacation ended without a problem, the Miya siblings returned home.
