Chapter 1: The Newbie.

Chapter Text

Chapter one: The Newbie.

You remember the first time that you were introduced to him, it felt like it was yesterday, but it really wasn't.

You sigh, hating that you had to wait on an elevator, it felt anxiety inducing really, you already knew what to expect, he'd probably look down at you, and when no one is around he'll-
“Oh look you're here! Welcome home, I was worried you'd have gotten lost.” Said a cheerful voice, catching you off guard, really you had to work on this internal monologue thingy, you keep spacing out…

You didn't even notice that the elevator's doors had already been opened, and a… gray man? Stood before you, with his unusually cheerful smile.. How unnerving, were all people in this place like this?

You gulp before you spoke back, “Yeah.. uhh Can you show-” before you continued he interrupted you, “Of course, just follow me and I'll show you around the place and your new Roommate!” He says, was he always like this? You wonder to yourself, following him close behind, feeling that if you get your eyes off him you might get lost at any given moment.

You glance at the walls of the corridor, a beige yellow and a single line of orange that followed along the walls… It was indeed a rather.. Unique color choices for an apartment complex building.

➽───────────────❥

The tour was surprisingly fast even though the building had 9 floors, maybe it just didn't feel slow? Maybe it just felt like time went by faster? Were all places like this? He couldn't tell what this place had that made it feel strange.
“Well- It was a pleasure meeting you.” The gray man in front of you then continued, “Did you have any questions on your end?” he asked, looking down at you as if he was staring straight at your soul.

“W-” before you could even answer he interrupted you once again, “Thanks again for making it,” he continued, “I've got another meeting soon so we'll have to discuss further inquiries later.” he winked at you, hinting at maybe a next encounter? He took a step to the side before he turned back to you and said this.

“Oh! But one more thing,” He reaches out to shake your hand, you hesitantly take his hand, shaking it, “Welcome aboard!.” and when he lets go of your hand you notice the presence of a cold metal on your palm, you take a look at it and sure enough! It was a key.
“Hopefully we'll talk again soon.” He said with a cheerful smile, leaving right after.

You take a look at the wooden door with the familiar number 4 on it, you gulped, unsure whether to even approach it, your hands start shaking as you looked around for the gray man who you just met, maybe he got the wrong apartment but no matter where you looked you just saw the endless corridor with all the same set of wooden doors, it was weird that they all have all the same pattern on their lines.

But no sign of the eery man, but honestly how bad can he be? Anything is better than entering that apartment, it all looked so.. Disgustingly familiar? It felt repulsive even, but you didn't want to die of cold on such a scary night.

Your legs stumbled on the way to the door, which is hilarious because the door was so close yet you felt like you shouldn't be even near it. You hesitantly knock on the door, not wanting to use the keys that were given to you, maybe that way you could escape it… You hoped the door wouldn't open when you knocked on it, one time, two times, three times and the fourth time you knocked the door opened up.

The first thing that you noticed when the man opened up the door was his blonde hair and giant arrogant smile as he looked at you.
“So, you must be the Newbie that was moving in with me right?” That was the first thing he said to you, he isn't gonna be good news for you, right?”

—----------------

The second time you met him, you weren't sure it even was him.

He wasn't the same, he didn't act the same.

He didn't feel real.

And yet he was.

—----------------

“Urgh….” You whined to no one in particular, not sure if you're annoyed at the piled up snow or your date, really he didn't get why people acted the way they really were, like how can you just act so… arrogantly?
Like on a first meeting you should try and act more respectful, right? Especially on a blind date, where you don't know anything about the person.

The sun starts to set, though he couldn't exactly see it given the clouds almost blocking the entire sky, oh how he hated Winter.
You put your shaking hands back on your pockets, trying to warm them so you wouldn't get frostbite. It was a shame that you forgot to bring yourself a suited jacket for the freezing night, but alas he was almost reaching home so he wouldn't have to worry about it further.

The cold breeze made your bones chill and you snuggled on your old scarf that looked more like an old random piece of cloth by this point with how much he had used it.

Your walk- Well more like stumbling- back home was fairly chill, you even got to see some Doves nesting together on a tree on the way, warming each other up.

You step out of the elevator, on some normal days you use the stairs because of that one time you and your old roommate got trapped in it that one time and you had to wait for help from that one security manager named Manuel… But you weren't feeling in the mood for it today so you just used the elevator instead.
Passing by quickly through the corridors, taking a weird corner and you found your apartment, the same wooden door that still haunted you to this day, but it's not like there was much of an option either. Your hands took out the key from your somewhat warm pocket and found their way into the keyhole, you twisted it to the right until you heard a click.
The door opened and you took out the key, stepping inside the apartment before you locked the door once again, after locking it you noticed the delicious smell in the air of food, your stomach would rumble right now if you hadn't had that dinner with that person, making you huff at the thought, taking off your dirty shoes in the process.

“Urghh.. People these days…” You mumble to yourself, trying to not think of how horrible your date went, maybe dating isn't for you, after all every time you dated someone it all went wrong, you should stay single instea-
“Oh you came!.. So… uhh how did the date went?” Said a familiar voice, interrupting your internal monologue, you hadn't even realized that you arrived at the kitchen already, it must've been the powerful and delicious smell of your roommate's cooking.

You avoided his eyes when the question came, “Oh… about that…” You say sheepishly, while taking off your jacket and scarf, putting it on the coat hanger near the entrance.
“It.. Didn't go well again, did it?” The dirty blonde finished the sentence before you had completed what you were about to say.. He really wasn't like-... “No, it didn't.” You say to him, really he wasn't the one to blame, it was that arrogant asshole, urgh.

“...” He stayed silent for a few moments, seeming nervous for a bit, fidgeting with his fingers a bit as he looked down at the ground, “Well… Are you still hungry?.. I- uhh made dinner.” He said, mustering up a small awkward and nervous smile as he set the table for you two, pushing a chair for you to sit on, trying to change the topic, how cute.
You stay quiet for a brief moment, your mouth agape until it turns into a soft smile at his kind gesture, he's always so sweet that it felt like he was gonna give you diabetes or something.

“I'm not hungry, but I would love to.” you say to him, sitting down at the table while he joined you, now looking at the displayed dishes you could see what the hype was all about when you noticed it was a Rack Of Lambs for you two and a Chocolate, Walnut and Bourbon Pie.

You look up to see your dork of a roommate looking at you, expecting to hear you say something about the food he chose to make tonight.
“Thank you.. You really do always brighten up my day.” You say, he seems to brighten up at your answer, he goes back to eating his food, you pick up the silverware, proceeding to cut the soft meat easily and stuff it in your mouth, tasting the food that was made with love.
A shame your roommate didn't seem to enjoy his own food as you did though.
