The Most (Awkward) Double Date

Summary:

Bingo Square: double date

Notes:

Chenford double dates with Tim’s mom and her new boyfriend. 😂🤭

Only way mama Bradford can make an appearance 😂

Work Text:

“Bradford. Someone’s here to see you.” Lucy looks up at the officer. Lucy gets up and goes to the front. She sees Tim’s mom.

“Eileen, are you okay?” She pulls Lucy in for a hug. Lucy’s parents haven’t talked to her since she became a cop at twenty two. She had met Tim at eighteen and he saved her life. They’ve been married for five years, together for ten. Eileen has loved her as a daughter since day one.

“Oh yes honey. Sorry for dropping by. I was hoping to take you and Tim to dinner. I need you to sell it. I’ve met someone and I’m happy.” Lucy smiles. “You know how my son can get.”

“”Yes I do! That’s amazing Eileen. Of course we will be there.” Lucy hugs the woman.

“Be where?” Tim walks over and places his arms around Lucy; his hand finding Lucy’s small bump.

“Dinner with your mom.” Lucy kisses his cheek. “And her new boyfriend.” Tim’s eyes go wide as Lucy grabs his hand.

“What?” He asks incredulously.

“It’ll be fun. Your mom deserves happiness too.” Lucy says as Tim rolls his eyes. Lucy gives him a glare before turning to look at Eileen. “How about seven? That new burger place down on Sunset Blvd?” Lucy’s been craving burgers and she has been wanting to try it. Tim chuckles at his wife.

“That sounds perfect. We will be there.” Eileen gives both Tim and Lucy a hug goodbye.

“Be nice Tim.” Lucy says. “I promise I’ll make it up to you later.” Lucy says, smirking. She’s twenty four weeks pregnant and the hormones are raging. Tim’s been enjoying this aspect as has she.

“Mmm. I love the sound of that.” They get home around five thirty and manage to get one round in before heading to dinner. Lucy puts a sundress on that shows off her small baby bump and hugs her curves.

“Well you look gorgeous as always.” Tim wraps arms around his wife from behind. Lucy rolls her eyes.

“For now.” Lucy says.

“Always. You’re growing our child and you look absolutely stunning.”

“Let’s go. Before we’re really late.” Lucy says and Tim groans. The last thing he wants to do is go to dinner, but he loves his mom and he loves his wife.

“Okay, but I can’t wait to get you back here later.” Lucy laughs. They head out the door and to the restaurant. Tim’s hand stays on Lucy’s thigh the entire time. They arrive first and get seated. They order drinks.

“Be nice tonight babe.” Lucy says.

“I’m always nice, but I need to make sure she’s treated right.” Tim says.

“I know babe bu-“

“There’s my favorite son and daughter in law.” Eileen says and Tim’s jaw drops when he sees who her date is. Lucy stifles a laugh. It’s going to be an interesting night.

“Mom. Really? Couldn't you warn me?” Tim says glaring at the man behind her.

“I knew you wouldn’t come, Tim. Be nice. He makes me happy. Isn’t that what matters?” Eileen says as she pulls Lucy in for a hug.

“Tim-“ The man says.

“Smitty.” Tim glares. Lucy pushes her husband aside. She’s always had a soft spot for Smitty ever since he saved her from the stupid new ADA, Chris Sanford.

“Hi Smitty.” She says hugging the man.

“Hi Lucy.” They all sit down, order the rest of the drinks, and order dinner.

“So.” Tim says shortly. “How long has this been going on?” Lucy rests her hand on Tim’s knee and squeezes it.

“Six months.” Eileen says. Smitty wraps his arm around Eileen’s shoulder and Tim grimaces. Lucy has to try not to laugh at how uncomfortable her husband is.

“You’ve hid this for six months. What are your intentions with my mother?” Eileen kicks him under the table. “What?” He says.

“Well, I, uh.” Smitty stutters. “I love your mother. We have a great time together, if you know what I mean.” Smitty realizes what he said when it’s too late. Eileen’s face goes red and Tim shutters.

“I don’t need to know about that. If you hurt her, you die. I can hide a body.”

“Tim.” Lucy says and slaps him.

“Ow.” He squeals out. Lucy hits hard.

“Be nice babe.” Lucy says. “I’ll be back. I need to pee.” She glared at Tim who gulps. Lucy makes quick work in the bathroom and when she gets back to the table, she can feel the awkwardness.

“So. Smitty. How did you two meet?” Lucy figures this will be easy.

“Well, it’s a funny story.” Eileen says laughing to herself. Smitty laughs. “Remember my friend Penelope who got married a while ago?” Tim nods. “Well we had a bachelorette party. Apparently it got too loud and a bit wild, so someone called the police. This handsome man came to the door and I thought he was the stripper. I tore his pants off and ripped the buttons off his shirt. I told him to come back later and I’d make it up to him. It was a hell of a night.”

“Oh my god. That’s hilarious.” Lucy says and Tim is embarrassed. He groans and runs his hands down his face.

“Let’s just say, he’s very well endowed. I’ve never been happier or more satisfied.” Lucy and Eileen laugh while Tim and Smitty go red.

“Okay I didn’t need to know that mom.” Tim says.

“Well you asked sweetie.” Eileen says chuckling.

”Not about that!” Tim screeches.

Lucy rests her hand on Tim’s leg as their food finally comes. “Tim, I’m happy. I haven’t been treated this well in years.” Tim softens.

“You deserve happiness mom. I just can’t believe it’s Smitty.” Tim doesn’t get it, but he’s glad his mom is happy.

“I’m smarter than I look, Bradford.” Smitty says as Eileen glares. “Sorry, Tim.”

“We are very happy for both of you.” Lucy says as Tim moves his hand around his wife and places his hand on Lucy’s bump.

“We’re happy for both of you too.” Smitty says. “We got together and you got pregnant at almost the same time. Guess we both had fun that night?”

“Quigley Smitty.” Eileen smacks him as she laughs.

“Sorry.” He says sheepishly. Lucy shakes her head as she pays the bill and gets looks from everyone.

“Oh stop. It’s my treat. I expect to be in your wedding.” Tim chokes on his drink as his wife chuckles.

“Wedding?” Tim says.

“Yes, their wedding. Just not when I’m huge. Please. I’m already feeling big and I’m only halfway through.”

“Stop it baby. You look beautiful.” Smitty can’t help but smile at the couple. He’s always had a soft spot for the couple in front of him. They walk outside.

Tim shakes Smitty’s hand as he looks him in the eye. “Treat her right. I’m happy for you both, but there’s things I never want to know, got it?” Smitty shakes his head.

“So, can I be Grandsmitty?” He asks. Tim stares him down. “Okay, I’ll work it out with the nicer Bradford.”

“Bye Smitty.” Lucy hugs the man. “Bye Eileen.”

Later when Tim and Lucy are home and sweaty in bed, Tim sits up. “My mom’s really dating Smitty.”

“Yes babe. She’s happy.” Lucy mumbles, full of sleep. “Leave them alone or I will withhold sex.” Tim lays back down. He throws glares are Smitty’s way at work,  but he’s always nice. He does ask Tim’s permission to marry his mother which earns him a few points.

They do get married and he does become their kids Grandsmitty.
