AU, where animal/human hybrids are not an unusual sight but also not very common. Some hybrids proudly show off their lion’s mane or sharp crocodile fangs they’ve gotten from their ancestors’ protective spirit. Some shyly shave their long whiskers or make appointments to pluck feathers off their backs. You may be wondering about horse dick havers… Well, anyway
Atsumu is a fox. He likes it. It looks cool. He takes good care of his luxurious fluffy tail and uses more products on it than can fit just one normal-sized cabinet. Some of his teammates happen to be hybrids, too. Bokuto is an owl hybrid; his wings unfurl when he is excited - Atsumu got accidentally slapped in the face more times than he prefers. He knows that Adriah is some sort of an amphibian. He’s got one scaly palm and blinks funny sometimes.
Humans smell differently from hybrids. Humans smell like sour sweat, bad breath, suffocating perfume, garlic they had for lunch, or cigarettes. Hybrids all have their own unique smell, reminding of foods or flowers. Bokuto smells nutty, like honey-roasted peanuts. Adriah smells like some sort of flower, sweet and faint. Meian smells like coffee and mint before the practice and then like sweat and musk by the end of it. It’s actually quite hot, Atsumu thinks.
And then there he is, their new addition to the team, Sakusa Kiyoomi. He doesn’t smell like anything but rubbing alcohol and citrus-scented sanitizing wipes he likes. He doesn’t seem to be a hybrid, at least not that Atsumu can see of him. But here is the thing, he actually does not see that much. Kiyoomi always shows up with a face mask and a beanie (it’s summer!), his limbs covered with compression sleeves. He made a point of never changing in front of everyone; he is quick and efficient in doing so behind the door of the shower cubicle. He says he doesn’t want to accidentally come in touch with sweaty athletes’ naked bodies after showering. He doesn’t enjoy touching in general. He is confusing, and Atsumu is getting obsessed. He can not figure him out.
That was until one day, Atsumu was halfway home after practice when he realized he had left his keys in the locker. He groaned and jogged back to the training center. As he walked in, he froze by the door, taking in the view in front of him, his jaw going slack and nearly hitting the floor.
What he saw was his new mysterious teammate, standing all gorgeous, tall, and carefree naked as on the day he was born, towels pooled on the floor around his feet. His black curls are still wet from the shower, and he towels them gently. Droplets of water sit on the finely defined muscles of his slender back. Atsumu’s eyes drop to the man’s insanely thin waist and then to his gorgeous firm ass and, oh yes, the fluffiest shiny black tuft tail on top.
Atsumu gasps. The man jumps. He drops the towel he is holding, and Atsumu sees them then, long bunny ears sprang in between ink-black curls.
The fox in Atsumu is awake and alert. He bared his teeth slightly and licked his lips, approaching the bunny hybrid slowly, not losing eye contact. He stops himself a few steps in, forcing the fox back to sleep, and shakes his head.
“A rabbit, huh,” - he croaks. Not cool. He coughs half to clear his throat.
You see, bunny hybrids aren’t the most common species, but one of the most memorable for their characteristics - their fluffy and sensitive ears, adorable round tails, insanely strong legs, and for their love to fuck.
Kiyoomi smiles and somehow, it’s Atsumu now who feels hunted.
“Well, well,” - the bunny hybrid sighs, pouting his lips in fake annoyance. “They say curiosity killed the cat. What does it do to foxes?” he pounders.
Atsumu grins, “Guess wer gonna fine' out.”
