Chapter 1: Café Meow Meow

Chapter Text

The door chimes jungled, announcing a new customer. The ginger head lifted, as he was wiping down the first table. He smiled. His face a ray of sunshine. The sour looking teen that had just walked in, eyes widened.

“Good afternoon, gentlemen. Give me a moment and I will get you settled!” The voice was just as bright and shinny as his hair and smile.

“Well, cool!” The slightly shorter male next to the sour faced one, spoke up.

“Why are we here, again?” The blond muttered.

Before any of his companions could answer, the bubbly ginger was back. He beamed as he quickly counted them all.

“A table for five?” he asked.

“Five?” the dark haired male turned to his friends.

“Where did Asashi go?” He cried.

“We past a candy store, last time I saw him.” The blond muttered as he pushed his glasses up.

“Why didn’t you stop him? Or at least say something?” the dark haired one yelled.

The door chimes rang again. Before anyone could say anything, a small dyed blond male rushed forward.

“Don’t let her out! She’s pregnant!” He screamed.

The man who came in, looked far older than the ones already waiting for a seat. He had his hand full of small white bags. He cried out in shock as a fat gray cat came bounding toward the door. The small blond dove for her. The older male was knocked aside as the door was yanked closed.

The small blond wrapped a warm towel around the grey cat. He sat up, cradling her in his arms. He cooed soothingly down at her. They could all hear her purring as she lazily blinked up at him.

“Why was she out of the back room?” a tall good looking boy asked. He was leaning against the door that led to the back.

“I was feeding her!” the small blond hissed.

“Kenma, just take her back, people are looking!” The ginger pressed.

“Yeah, sure. Noya come on.” The boy who had checked the large man aside, helped Kenma to his feet. He turned startling wide brown eyes up to the man bun wearing male.

“Sorry, to knock you out of the way. She is very close!” the boy flashed an eye crinkling grin up at him.

“Uh, no problem. You can make it up to me, by giving me your number.” He offered.

Nishinoya laughed. “Sure thing! I’m Yu Nishinoya.” He introduced himself.

“Oh, uh Asahi.” The man shuffled his bags to shake the small but firm hand.

“I have to help the boss, but I will be back out, just a minute or five.” He laughed walking away with the blond.

“Please follow me. My name is Hinata, I will be your sever.” The ginger grinned.

“Great, they look like jocks.” The good looking male snorted as he held the back room door for Kenma to go through.

“Oikawa, can you held Yamaguchi with table four!” A silvery haired man called out.

“Sure Sugawara, what does he need?” lazily the good looking man walked away, not before ensuring the door was closed tightly.

“So, uh, what is this place? Like the rules?” Daichi, the dark harmed man, asked.

Hinata smiled wider, was that even possible.

“So glad you asked.” He beamed as he passed out the small folded menus.

“We are a cat Café! Kenma has found all of these lovely kitties that need a cozy, safe and caring home! We sell a variety of goods. Everything here is safe to share with our lovely babies. The cream we use is cat friendly. Although they taste is sweet, we don’t use sugar. The natural flavors are better for our felines.” Hinata explained to them.

“We do have a variety of toys, treats and fun games you can do to entertain our little ones. If you wish to play with them, it is a $20 fee that we donate to charity or the care of our little guests.” He went on to tell them.

“Sometimes our friends may come out here to visit with you. If they do, we ask only that you be respectful to them. Don’t scare them, manhandled them or yell at them. This is their home until they get adopted.” He concluded.

“This sound like a great place.” The older blond man next to Daichi offered.

“Coach Ukai, maybe we could adopt one as our mascot!” a balding boy cried.

“That would mean a very special friend. One that would enjoy the tracking and not get sick. You would have to take great care and not leave them alone all night. Who would take it home?” Hinata asked.

“We could rotate that.” The younger blond offered.

“Tsukishima, what a great idea! We should see how much it is!” Asahi praised him. Tsukishima snorted, shoving his glasses back into place.

“I’ll let Kenma know. He will come to discuss your options!” Hinata smiled happily.

“Is there any beverages I can bring you?” he asked.

He, painstakingly, wrote down their drink orders. Hurrying away, he went to give them to the “bar tender” Sugawara. The silver haired man took the orders to begin preparing them. He had a small bar stuck between the front door and the hall that led to the bathrooms. Here he had a set up of drinks, coolers and coffee machines to mix together whatever their guests ordered.

Across the room from him was the counter. Oikawa ran this most days. He would take the food orders, send them to the back, where their cook Nishinoya, put them together. Once ready Oikawa called out the number so that tables waiter could come pick it up. Hinata and Yamaguchi were the main waters on staff. Either one could greet and seat the customers.

The cats that were up for adoption roamed around a section of the café behind a Plexiglas barrier. This was to keep them safe from moving feet, sliding chairs, or rushing out into the streets. This section was filled with cat friendly things. Like many, many cat trees for them to sleep orange on, carpeted walls, them to climb, and tunnels for them to dodge in and out of.

Along with this they had a closed off section, where the cats had access to through a swinging door. This was where they could eat in private or use the litter box without everyone watching them. Occasionally, the cats did get out from this section. They would wander the tables to eat, sleep or get lets from other guests.

The Plexiglas allowed all the café’s customers to watch the cats, while keeping the kitties safe. To enter the cat area, one had to pay the fee. Then there was a separate set of rooms where customers could take cats to paly with. These were also used to see how the cats would get along with potential new family members. Kenma watched over the cameras that recorded in these rooms. He was diligent in jot allowing his kitty friends to be mistreated in any way.

Sugawara turned from his last drink. He set them on a tray.

“Hinata table eight!” he called out.

The orange ball of sunshine, came hurrying over. He scooped up the ray, balancing it with one hand under it, as he placed it on his shoulder. Carefully he made his way around the tables, to reach the one he had set the sour faced boy and his friends at.

“Boke, careful!” the boy cried hopping up to help the ginger place the tray on the table.

“Kageyama, I’m sure he has done this before!” Daichi scolded him.

“He is small!” the taller teen cried.

“Its OK, thank you!” Hinata beamed up at him.

Kageyama’s face tinged pink over his cheek bones. He muttered something about the “Boke” as he sat back down. He only looked at Hinata from the corner of his eye as the boy stood by their table.

“I spoke with Kenma, he will be out after you eat to decided on what kitty might be best for your mascot.” Hinata explained.

“May I take your orders now?” he asked.

Tanaka went first. With his tongue poking out between his lips, Hinata dutifully wrote down their order. He rushed it over to Oikawa. The good looking cashier was flirting with several female customers that had come to sit around his counter. Once he saw Hinata he hurried over to him.

“This the six top?” he asked.

“Yep. Tell Nishinoya, he still needs to keep his promise.” Hinata reminded him.

“Of course.” Oikawa turned away, to put the piece of paper on the wore between his place and the kitchens.

Once more the door chimes called out a new customer coming in. Hinata turned to greet them. Yamaguchi was serving another table a she glanced up.

“Oiya, oiya!” came a loud cry.

“Oh no.” Hinata hissed.

“Bosses boy toy is baacckkk.” Oikawa leaned forward, hands on the counter, to watch.

“Don’t forget your own customers.” Hinata laughingly reminded him.

“If only Iwazumi showed up.” Oikawa sighed. He moved back down the counter to where the ladies waited for him.

“Good afternoon, welcome to the Cat café!” Hinata sang out.

“Hey there little dude!” a teen with spiked grey and black hair smiled at him.

“Hello, Bokuto!” Hinata chuckled.

“Hey, hey, hey! He remembers me!” The frosted tip idiot sang.

“Of course he does, we are in here every week!” a small blond snarled.

“Is Kenma in?” the tall, deep voiced teen asked.

“He is in the back. One of our ladies is becoming a mom for the first time!” Hinata told them.

“Exciting!” Kuroo smiled. It looked a little sad.

“I guess he won’t be out any time soon.” He sighed.

“Let me get you seated.” Hinata offered.

“Sure thing!” he led the four people to another table a little to the left of the first one.

Hinata went to wait by the counter. He looked over the café. He really enjoyed his job. He saw Nishinoya talking to the man bun guy!
