This writing is a ‘bad ending’ of sorts for a d&d character I played but the campaign was dropped far before I was finished with that character’s story. The setting, magic, and other things are loosely based on dungeons and dragons but I’m taking plenty of liberties with the forgotten realms setting.
The story primarily takes place within the layer of the infinite abyss that is the realm of Baphomet, the endless maze. Those who work for his aims seek the destruction of societies and for mortals to turn to the natural brutality of life where the strong do as they please and the weak live at the mercy and whim of the strong. Lykiton is the ‘palace’ where demons closest to Baphomet live and scheme within, it is near the tower of science where in the past Baphomet had created new breeds of violent beastial demons like the bulezau who have spread throughout the abyss as heavy infantry in the blood war.
The demons of Lykiton and other places in the abyss have a certain practice where in relationships of dominance and submission, the act of a submissive demon giving their true name up to their dominate is an act akin to a vow. As to giving someone your true name gives that individual a real tangible power over them.
The Cambion of many names is the title given to the demon that has many names throughout their mortal and demonic life. They most often go by Cherry. In their mortal life they grew to the heights of wizardry with the influence of their adoptive father. As a mortal they appeared as an abyssal tiefling, but something was always deeply wrong with them as if the magic of the abyss flowed through their veins, it drew demons to them, and drove their mind to places that were abnormal- as a normal Tiefling has no such lusts or depravity etched into their very souls.
They eventually learned that they were the direct spawn of a balor called Amadeus in addition to their human mother; the demon had altered them so that their demonic blood would awaken later in life. When they died their soul reincarnated into the abyss, in a form not too different than their mortal one. They also maintained much more of their memory and personality from their mortal self than a demon normally would.
When it comes to their abilities Cherry is a bladesinger whose magic is focused on battle, the transformation of flesh, and teleportation. They also have crafted many of their own original spells based on their connection with demons and the abyss. Their fascination with flesh, anatomies, and medicine has had a major influence on their magic. Their adoptive father Zwentibold was a respected potionbrewer in the elderly years that he raised Cherry during, while in his youth he had mentored many blade singers. His style was based in withholding and misleading his foes, Cherry carries him with them.
