“So, that’s it,” Jason shifted awkwardly in place, “Dick and me are dating.”
Bruce frowned, “How long has this been going on?”
Dick’s grin lit up the room, “Three months now!”
“Yeah,” Jason nodded, “We wanted to keep it private at first but we, well mostly me, are ready for other people now so we decided to tell everyone at once.”
Tim smiled, “Congratulations! You two have been dancing around each other for ages. I’m so glad you’ve both figured it out. I’ve wanted to strangle you two for months for how long its taken you two to get here.”
Damian pursed his lips, “Todd is formable enough, he will make a good enough partner and protector for Grayson. Don’t you agree father?”
Bruce grimaced, “I’m… uncertain.”
Jason tensed, “Why? Don’t think I’m good enough for your golden boy?”
“No! No that’s not it Jason, I’m not worried about that!”
“Then what are you worried about?”
When Bruce didn’t respond Dick snorted, “It’s because of me isn’t it?”
Bruce, didn’t, nod, “You do have more… history in relationships.”
Jason looked between the two, “Okay? I mean yeah Dick’s dated more people so he knows more about dating, but I’m not lazy. I’m figuring it out and doing some of this romantic shi-stuff back.”
Barbara frowned, “It’s not just that, Dick hasn’t been the best at being…”
“Wait,” Jason looked between the two, “Is this about the bullshit about Dick supposedly cheating on you?”
Barbara glared at him, “He slept with Mirage when he was with Kori, and then there was Tarantula when we were dating.”
“Really?” Jason glared at her in disgust, “You’re trying to say he’s going to be a bad partner because of those two bitches?”
“He has a history of cheating Jason.”
“You absolute bitch.” Everyone stared at Jason, who had never been so crude to Barbara, “You want to throw what happened with Miriam Delgado and Catalina Flores at him? Blame him for what happened? Act like what happened actually has any importance in regards to our relationship?”
Bruce frowned, “What do you know about these incidents that makes you believe those incidents are a non-issue?”
“Really, you don’t know why? You don’t know what happened? Two of the biggest traumas your eldest has ever faced? And you don’t know? And you call yourself the world’s greatest detective?”
Dick placed a hand on Jason’s shoulder, “Little Wing.”
Jason glared at him, “No. I’m not letting this continue. I will not let them keep blaming you for being a victim. You don’t deserve to have people thinking you would ever cheat on a partner. Kori’s already apologized but everyone else should. You deserve for everyone to know how bad they screwed up. How they hurt you. You deserve their apologies for thinking you would ever be unfaithful, not that you have to accept them. It’s wrong for them to judge you for being a victim.”
Dick glanced away, biting his lip.
Damian scowled, “Of course Baba would not cheat on a romantic partner. He is too good a man for that.”
Barbara glared, “Why should Kori have apologized. Dick was dating her when he slept with Mirage.”
Jason sneered at her, “That name isn’t enough of a hint for you? Well, let me lay out a, fun, fact for you. Getting raped? That’s not cheating, that’s being assaulted, and is something one’s partner should be there to help their partner through the aftermath, not blame them for the assault they suffered.”
“Mirage didn’t force herself on Dick. He even admitted that he slept with her willingly.”
“Did you actually hear anything Dick said when he admitted that to Kori, when he fucking apologized for being assaulted? He was apologizing because he slept with Miriam, when she was using her powers to make herself look like Kori. Dick had sex with Miriam fully believing she was Kori. That’s rape by deceit. Dick wasn’t at fault for sleeping with someone he fully believed to be his girlfriend.”
Damian sat up straight up in his chair, “Baba was assaulted by this Delgado woman? She must be dealt with! For breaching Grayson’s honor!”
Jason rolled his eyes, “Already handled brat, dealt with Flores as well. Dickie wasn’t happy about it, but it was already done.”
Barbara was gripping her chair handles as she looked up at Jason worried, “He was dating Catalina when we were dating.”
Jason actually snorted, “You ever ask Dick about that? Or listened to what he said when he did? Cause if you had you would have learned that he hugged her a couple times, and everyone here knows, Dick’s a hugger. So, no Dick never dated that bitch, he never did anything beyond training her. And then that time she raped him? That was the week Blockbuster happened, you know when his world burned down around him, literally in some ways? Well, she killed Blockbuster right in front of Dick and then when Dick was in too much shock to do anything, when he was definitely incapable of consenting to anything, she opened his armor and took what she wanted.”
He grit his teeth, “When I confronted her about it, she bragged about it. About how she broke you two up and then, well she said slept with, but it was really her raping Dick. She seemed to find it a great achievement, raping him. That him fighting back, what he could manage in his shock, was amusing. She loved bragging about it, which is part of the reason he has the reputation he has now, the reputation you’re using against him, when he’s never actually been unfaithful, but only victimized by those that wanted to hurt him and then not supported by his so called friends or family.”
Barbara shrunk into her chair looking to Dick, “Dick… is that true? Did Catalina?”
Dick took a deep breath before nodding, not able to meet her eyes, “She did.”
“And you never dated her?”
“Never. I would never have done that to you, or anyone.”
“Oh.”
Jason sighed, “I don’t really understand how so many of Dick’s friends fell for those lies, for thinking that about him. Hell, I caught Kori kissing him after she found out about the rape and I didn’t accuse him. I asked what happened. Okay I blew up at Kori for kissing my boyfriend but I wasn’t mad at Dick for getting kissed.”
Jason snorted, “Turns out it was part of a Tamaranean ritual for officially parting from a relationship with a partner where both partners agree to end the relationship and become friends. It’s a Firanada Kiriala apparently, which translates roughly into Final Friends Kiss. I yelled at Kori to give me a warning first but I didn’t blame Dick for Kori wanting to fix how they broke up.”
“So yeah, we’re dating and I’m going to take my boyfriend to eat some of his disgusting sugary crap for having to deal with all of this. Damian, Timbit, you’re welcome to join. B, Barbara actually take some time and figure out how to apologize, without making it worse, and don’t be surprised if he takes his time to, or never, forgives you for how you acted, all these years.”
Placing his hand on Dick’s lower back Jason led him from the room, motioning to their two younger brothers to follow them. Giving a brief goodbye to Alfred, the human, and the cat who was sleeping on the table near the door to the garage, Jason took all four out to Dick’s favorite ice cream stand. Where they had cereal flavored ice cream to Jason’s mild horror, but he kept coming back because Dick, his boyfriend, the best boyfriend in the world, loved it.
Even if he did insist Dick eat all his vegetables at dinner later in exchange.
