Chapter Text

When I met Damon Salvatore, I knew my life was never going to be the same again. He was everything I needed and wanted in a man. There was just something in the way he looked at me that told me it might not just be me. We met at the local bar in Mystic Falls just after I had moved in. I was Druid, a very specific type of witch and very powerful. I drew my power directly from the elements at any time, druids live for hundreds of years, and due to that not many of us exist. Many druids are sought after due to their ability to be compelled if the conditions were right. So, every so often I moved from town to town, never staying long.
I would usually open up an herbal shop in the town and lay low. I usually stay away from making strong attachments, but I knew Damon was different. Of course, I knew he was a vampire right away, but he didn’t know about me. He seemed like a pretty new vampire, at least he didn’t seem like he had been around long enough to have come across a druid before.
I walked into the Mystic Grill and sat at the bar and ordered whiskey neat. When the bartender returned with my drink, I opened my tab. I was almost finished with my drink when I heard a smooth, but cocky voice too close behind me say, “Now I know just about everyone in this tiny town, but I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before.”
I grabbed my drink and spun around in my chair to look at whoever was speaking with me. That’s when I was greeted by a tall man with dark hair and baby blue eyes. He was handsome in just a white t-shirt and jeans, but I could sense an edge to him. I downed the rest of my drink and looked at him coyly. “Well, I guess that’s just what happens when you’re new in town.” I cheer my empty drink at him before turning back around and putting my empty drink on the counter, motioning for another. I can feel him sizing me up from the back, no doubt sensing my magic.
“What brings a witch to the town of Mystic Falls?” He asked taking the seat next to me.
“I’m not here to get into any vampire drama if that’s what you’re wondering. I just needed a change of pace.” I explain as the bartender brings me my second drink. He orders his drink and I continue, “So, what are you like the local town guard dog?” I ask coyly.
“No, I just like to know what’s going on around town. You wouldn’t believe what a hotspot this is for supernatural beings.” He laughs and seems genuinely jovial; his cocky tone is no where in his words now.
I shrug my shoulders, “That’s fair.”
“’that’s fair.’” He imitates my voice in a high pitch, “That’s all?”
“Well, yeah.” I laugh. “I think its completely normal to want to protect the ones you love.” Then I shrug my shoulders again.
“How do you know I’m protecting people?” He looked caught off guard and I couldn’t help but grin.
“Why else would you be blatantly approaching every new supernatural creature that walks into town? If you were just protecting yourself, why would you throw yourself into such danger for no reason? Unless you are just blatantly that cocky.”
“Takes one to know one.” He laughs out, taking another gulp of his drink.
I eye him suspiciously, fighting back a grin as he tries to match my look and hold my gaze.
We end up bursting out in laughter and then it dawns on me that we never exchanged names. I gave him mine, “Sorry, didn’t realize I hadn’t told you my name, its very nice to meet you.” I giggle again.
“Damon Salvatore. It’s a pleasure you blew into town.” He looked at me and he suddenly he looked like a dashing young man, instead of a hardened vampire. I was captivated by him, I could still sense the danger on this man, but there was just something about him. I realized I had been staring for a long time when he spoke up. “Do you wanna get out of here, I can show you around town if you’re up for a walk?”
I perked up at the idea, “That sounds lovely.” I smiled and grabbed my bag. As I was grabbing my bag Damon called for the bartender and compelled him to clear our tabs. I rolled my eyes and let out a laugh.
“Drinks on me!” Damon announced, proud of himself.
“Does it count if you don’t actually pay for them?” I ask while looping my arm in his as we walk outside.
“Hey, you didn’t pay and that’s all that matters.” He says smugly, but in a strangely endearing way. I just laughed him off as we walked. As we were walking, I pulled out my cigarette case and lit a cig, smoking as we walked.
“You know that’s bad for you right?” He said matter of factly.
“Its either this or I kill someone, plus it doesn’t really affect me like that. Ya know, herbs and all. Oh, I specialize in herbs by the way, I plan on opening a shop soon, for all your herbal needs.”
His eyebrows raised in interest. “So, you have a magical herb to cure lung cancer?”
“Well, its not magical, but smoking mullein leaf is great for smokers, and I would never turn down a joint. I deal in all herbs.” I look at him with a sly smile.
“Sounds like you know your stuff, but then again all I know is vervain is no go in my book. Will that be in your store?” He laughs.
“It will be, if I were you I wouldn’t go wandering too much in my home then, if you make it that far.” I warn him with a mischievously grin.
“Good to know.” He lets out in a breathy manor, “Does that mean there is chance of coming back to your place?” He winks at me.
I shook my head and laughed. “I said IF.” I emphasized the ‘if’.” I looked up at him dreamily. We continued walking until we came upon a lovely garden. The gate was opened, and we walked into the maze of flowers and bushes.
“I have to say its lovely here at least. Although I did notice what you said earlier. I wasn’t aware Mystic Falls was a hotspot for the supernatural. Can I ask a favor?” I looked up at him with a cautiously.
“Sure, what’s on your mind.” He looked down at me with a cute tilt of his head.
“Can you not tell anyone that I’m a witch. I’m trying to stay out of as much drama as possible.” I said vaguely enough that I hoped he wouldn’t ask more questions.
“Of course, as long as that means I get to keep seeing you.” He whispered out.
I looked up at him with a sweet smile, “I would really like that.” We walked through the garden some more until we came upon a big oak tree. I sat down underneath it and patted the seat next to me, my cigarette tossed into the street long ago. He joined me under the tree and sat back against its trunk, “I want to show you something.” I sat on my knees and felt the energy in all the living plants around us, using my power to guide them around us in a beautiful swirl. I looked back over my shoulder at him, “Pretty cool, huh. I only break this trick out with people I actually like.” I giggle sweetly.
He looks at me directly in my eyes and without skipping a beat, “Its beautiful.” I saw his eyes flicker to my lips. In an instant we were a clash of lips, teeth, and tongue. My hands flying to his hair and his around my torso. As our lips connected it was as if the question, I had been avoiding asking myself all night had been answered. There was just something about him, and I would take however long it took to find out what it was.
