Chapter Text
Izuku was an unwanted kid. His whole life was broken from the moment his mom told his father that she was pregnant and he left. When Izuku was born his mom tried to love him. She tried, really tried… but those large eyes always seemed to look through her.
“Izuku dear, could you please stop staring at mommy?” Inko would ask whenever those eyes watched her cook.
The watching the kid did, the blank expression he made.
Inko was cleaning the house using her quirk here and there to pick up small items. All was good until she felt the shiver of being watched. When she turned she saw Izuku staring directly at her. He didn't speak but he did watch.
What Inko didn't know is he was admiring her quirk, and his mother as a whole.
“Izuku, would you please go to your room?” inko asked shakely.
Izuku nodded with a smile and skipped off.
He seemed excited all the time but he still had that look.
She tried to go to her best friend Mitsuki but she didn't understand. Mistuki thought izuku was adorable, a great kid even.
“Do you ever get a little freaked when ‘zuku looks at you?” she asked.
“What? Hell no, that little angle is so cute, much better than my brat!” Mistuki responded.
In the other room izuku listened to the adults talking while playing hide n seek with kacchan, crying quietly so he wouldn't get found.
It all got worse the moment Izuku turned four… When they went to the doctor he told them izuku wasn't going to get a quirk inko snapped. She thought that if he could become something to be proud of, she could learn to love her son. Instead he became a disappointment.
“Mommy.. Do you think I could still be a hero?” her child asked.
“No.” she responded blankly.
Later that night izuku cried himself to sleep.
When izuku started coming home from primary school with bruises she turned the other way. Pretended not to notice. Eventually she started working more and Izuku was on his own for longer.
“Mommy! Do you remember what day it is?” Izuku jumped up and down asking.
“Now I'm going to be late for work.” inko said while packing her purse. Then she left without another word.
That night Izuku celebrated his 5th birthday with his stuffed animals, singing happy birthday to himself. He was a little disappointed that she wasn't there with him but he could deal, after all his mommy dealt with him even though he was worthless.
By the time he was 6 and knew how to shower on his own and cook things in the microwave, although if he spent too long in the shower he would be locked in his room, and if he cooked anything longer than one minute in the microwave he'd gain the same punishment in his room.
“Izuku! Why on earth did you spend 14 minutes in the shower!? Water isn't cheap!'' Inko shouted as she dragged her son into his room. “Stay in here and think about what you've done!” she said as she shut the door and a click could be heard when she locked it.
Izuku stayed in his room until the same time the next day.
“Izuku! Why did you cook that for 2 minutes!? Energy isn't cheap!” she exclaimed as she slammed the door and locked it.
Izuku stayed in that room for the next two days and his belly growled at him a lot.
Izuku had to learn from a young age that not all men were created equal. He learned to be quiet and keep his head down. He learned to not look people in the eye. He learned how to survive with little food with no complaints. He thought he was being such a good kid for his mom.. Until she snapped even further. One day after a really bad beatdown from kacchan, he needed to be hospitalized. As soon as he was released from the hospital his mother beat him bloody, all below the shirt so as to not be caught. Then she shoved him into his room and left him there for four days.
“Why do you have to make my life so difficult!? You couldn't just not have passed out!? Why are you my son!? Why are you even alive!?” She hit him with every question. Izuku curled up to protect his vital organs.
After that day she took her aggression out on him. A bad patient at work? She beat him. She burnt the food after forgetting about it? She beat him. She dropped her phone and it broke? She beat him.
When he looked at her even for a moment he would be beaten so badly that she had to give him stitches so he wouldn't die, then send him to school the next day for them to be torn open by a certain blond.
When Izuku was in his last year of junior high he got attacked by a sludge villain. After beloved by all might he had to know, just had to know if he could still become a hero
“It is simply too dangerous for someone without a quirk to become a hero.” he said bluntly before leaving izuku heart broken on the roof.
—---------------------------------------------
Feeling dull on that rooftop, he looked over the edge and thought about jumping. ‘No one would care,’ he thought to himself. He stared over the ledge for a little while longer before turning and going down the stairs.
He walked without direction, not knowing what to do. He didn't want to go to the apartment, and he didn't have anywhere else to go.
Once he heard a familiar explosion he turned and saw the same villain that was suffocating him, now suffocating Kacchan. He looked around and sure enough a mini might was there. All of the heroes were standing around. Wouldn't it be ironic if he saved Kacchan after his idol told him he couldn't become a hero?
Izuku giggled to himself before looking around. He took note of the rooftops nearby the villain, the fire and the civilians.
He quickly ran off to a nearby fire escape and climbed to the roof. He guessed he was about 60 feet up and chose to take a great risk and jump. He estimated how far he'd have to jump. Backing up as far as he could before he ran and jumped as far as he could. Getting lucky he barely managed to make it above the villain. He angled himself directly above Kacchan and when he fell through the villain, using the sludge to break his fall a bit he grabbed the blond and yanked until they both went rolling out of the sludge with the momentum. He got up quickly and tugged the blond away and the heroes immediately ran to get the villain.
After the villain was finally detained, Izuku was scolded heavily for his actions, even if he was the one to actually get Kacchan out.
“Were you trying to get yourself killed!?” death arms yelled.
Izuku ignored them and walked off. After wandering for about an hour, all might ran in front of him.
“Kid!” he called out.
Izuku looked at his former idol with resentment, although the blond didn't seem to notice.
“I would like to apologize, I see you have the heart of a hero! You too can become a hero! I can give you my quirk and you can grow stronger!” all might said with joy.
The green headed boy stared at the number one hero for a moment before snapping.
“What? There are many flaws in that statement. One, quirks can't be passed to others, and even if they could, what makes you think I’d want yours? Two, did you have a change of heart because I did your job for you? You just left me on a fucking roof thinking that the poor quirkless kid wouldnt jump. Three, what if you just crushed my dreams and I don't want to become a hero? I knew that victim, I wanted to save my friend. You can't just break a kid's heart and walk away and try to pretend it didn't happen! Also you said ‘I would like to apologize’ you should've just said sorry instead of dodging the word.” and with that Izuku pushed by a stunned deflated version of all might and left.
That night Izuku didn't go home.
