Work Text:

"Ra~ph! Have you seen, Donnie?" Leo calls out, rushing around the living room. "Uh, no? Something up?" He asks, poking his head into the room, watching Leo's frantic movement. "Iesh, Dee messed up one of his experiments and somehow, turned into a..baby?" He admits sheepishly, bringing a hand up to rub the back of his neck with a half-hearted chuckle.

"He, what?!" Raph shouts panicked, rushing into the room to help him search. "Mikey is looking through his room and Lab now, I would ask dad to help but he's out with April selling cookies or whatever." He sighs, moving everything around slowly to avoid hurting him incase he was there. "We have a Code Magenta!" Mikey shouts from the hallway, rushing into the room seconds later. Quickly, they both stop everything and shout, "Code Magenta?!"

Code Magenta: Often used when Donatello was younger to signal to the rest of the family when he was having a breakdown. The only one who can help in this situation, is Leonardo. (Not to be confused with a Code Grape.)

"There hasn't been a Code Magenta in ages, where is he?" Leo asks calmly, although a tinge of fear can be seen within his quick strides towards Mikey. "The closet in his lab." Quickly, Leo rushes down the hall with a firm nod. Walking over to Raph, they make their way to the couch waiting nervously. "Do you think he will be okay?" Mikey asks, curling onto himself. "If Leo remembers what to do, yes. He will." Raph smiles, opening his arms to offer him a hug. Wasting no time, he jumps in his arms, hugging him tightly.

Stopping right before the lab doors, he walks in slowly. "Donnie~? You in here?" He calls out softly, making his presence known. He hears a light bang against the closet wall in reply, quiet muffled sobs being heard easier the closer he gets. "You alright in there, Dee?" He asks, already knowing the answer. There's no response that follows, so he sits down next to the cracked open door.

He stays silent for a little longer, waiting. When nothing comes, he remembers an old song they would sing. "I'm your twin." He starts hesitantly, making sure he remembers the words before continuing. "You're my twin. We stick together through thick and thin." He takes a deep breath, adjusting to get more comfortable. "No matter what I do, I'm always stuck with you."

He hears shifting in the closet as the sobs quiet down, now just resorting to small sniffles. "And if trouble comes our way, I know my twin will save the day~ Wherever you may be, you're always stuck with me~!" Leo stays quiet for a moment, listening for any type of movement or noise beyond the door. When he hears nothing, he continues.

"When you're feeling sad and blue. Call my name, and I'll find you." He sings, continuing to listen closely to the door. "We have a bond that's tried and true."

"You and me" He pauses, hoping the other would continue like he used to. "Me and you." The tiny voice calls out, not really singing, but he will take it. "Two by two." He continues with a smile, it growing even more when the other hums along.

"What if I never find you?" He sings alone, voice going soft. "What if I'm a twin no more...? I'd give all the kingdom's treasures," He pauses, getting hopeful. "If you came walking through the door~!" He side eyes the door, waiting.

Slowly, the door starts to creak open, and a small turtles eyes peer out from the darkness. His eyes are red as small tears still stream down, but he looks relaxed. "Lee...?" His voice is very quiet, barely audible. "Heya, Baby Dee." He smiles warmly. Slowly, the small turtle comes out of hiding. He seems nervous, so Leo just smiles, waiting for him do what he deems comfortable.

Eventually, he curls into Leo's chest, churring quietly when Leo wraps his arms around him. When Donnie sighs, Leo decides to continue.

"When you're feeling sad and blue. Call my name, and I'll find you." His voice is very quiet, singing as if it was a lullaby. "We have a bond that's tried and true~" Donnie yawns, shifting to be more comfortable in his arms as he starts to drift off.

"You and me" Leo starts, waiting to see if the younger will continue. "Me and you." He mutters, this time in more of a song form. "Two by two~" They both sing together, Baby Donnie yawning and falling asleep seconds after. Chuckling softly, he slowly starts to stand, making sure he stays asleep. Wrapping his arms around him more firmly, he starts to walk back to the living room.

Once he makes it there, both Raph and Mikey automatically look up, melting at the sight of both of them. Quickly, Mikey takes out his phone and snaps a photo, sending it to the group chat that consisted of them four. "Turtle pile?" Leo asks quietly, a small smile resting on his face as he walks closer. "I'll get the blankets!" Mikey whisper-shouts, rushing off to collect a few.

Laughing, the other two turn to each other. "I see you remembered?" Raph asks with a perked brow, with a small chuckle Leo responds. "How could I forget? I practically forced him to learn it after I heard it for the first time." Laughing quietly, Raph shakes his head, looking back up as Mikey rushes in once more with the blankets. Making a small nest on the floor, Raph is the first to lay down, placing his head on his crossed arms. Mikey lays down next, laying right on his back.

Watching them, Leo examines their spots, trying to find a position where they can lay down and they would both be comfortable. Opting to lay on his back, he leans against Raph's arm, leaving Donnie on his chest, holding him carefully. Noticing the free room, Mikey stretches and rolls down, laying against Raph's tail instead.

No more words are shared as they all relax, slowly falling asleep one by one. Leo is the last one to sleep, looking amongst the group with a smile. He looks down to Donnie who is sleeping peacefully, sighing lightly he looks back up. His mind is blank as he relaxes even more, sleep slowly starting to take over. And soon, he was out.

An hour passes and Splinter and April make it back to the liar. Their voices are loud as they joke around until they see the pile, quickly hushing themselves when they do. Taking out her phone, April snaps a quick photo before they say their goodbye's. Sending the photo in the family group chat, she smiles as she exits the sewer. When she leaves, Splinter looks at them all with a smile before finding a few more blankets and covering them all in their own, having Leo and Donnie share due to proximity.

Looking them over once more, he quietly walks off, deciding to watch some television in his room. He questions why the twins were snuggled up so close to one another, but as fast as the thought arrived, it left.

Another hour passes and slowly Donnie starts to open his eyes. He tries to bring a hand up to his face, but he notices them trapped. Looking over, he notices how close Leo is and becomes more confused. Shifting, he feels Leo hold him tighter. Grumbling, he continues to look around, quickly realizing the situation he is in. Confusion strikes him seconds later. One moment he was working on a new experiment of his, now he is stuck in a turtle pile? What happened for him to get stuck in this situation?

He looks around a bit more, eventually giving up on looking for answers. Noticing his battleshell was not on, he huffs in annoyance. Slowly yet practically, he manages to get one arm free. Unable to find his phone, he opts to grabbing Leo's. Quickly, he is met with two messages from different group chats. Recognizing the names he opens up the family one first, huffing lightly when he sees the photo.

Not knowing what to respond with, he moves to the other group chat, eyes going wide when he sees the photo. "Wha-?" He mutters, tapping on the photo to examine it. It was him and Leo, but he was...a baby? How could that be? It made no sense, the experiment was supposed to help him learn how to quickly age and de-age anima- oh. He understood now.

Note to self: Wear gloves when working on new experiments.

Rolling his eyes, he moves on to a random mobile game Leo had installed, waiting for the rest of them to wake up.

Leo was the next awake, slowly opening his eyes and seeing Donnie play the game. Not saying anything, he watches. Donnie quickly notices him awake, but also decides not to say anything.

Eventually, he dies in the game. Now breaking his concentration, he moves onto a more simpler game. He awaits for Leo to say something, but when he doesn't, he decides to initiate. "So...baby me?" Laughing quietly, Leo nods. "Yep, only for a few hours. I forgot how adorable you were when you were younger." He teases, shifting to allow Donnie to set his other arm free, being able to use both on the game, but he still holds him close.

"Your comment breaks my bad boy image, lets not speak of it." He sighs dramatically before continuing. "What happened?" This time it was Leo's turn to sigh dramatically, exaggerating everything. "Oh it was a nightmare~ throwing things around, shouting at everyone, not allowing anyone to touch you, it was aw~ful! Although you did relax after I gave you some titanium to chew on." He teases, getting flicked in the forehead seconds later. "Ow-"

"We all know that's not true, now the details, please." He rolls his eyes, amusement behind his words. "Fine, fine. When Mikey found you, you were just crawling around your lab. Quickly, he took care of you. Bringing you to the kitchen for food and drinks, making sure that you had something to amuse yourself with, the whole shebang. Soon I came in and took notice, so we started to take care of you together. While we were talking, you eventually ran off and we couldnt find you for about a half hour. So, we got Raph to help. Eventually, Mikey found you in your lab, none of us know what happened all we know is it was a Code Magenta moment-"

"Oh yay, he says sarcastically."

"Right? So I went in, we had a little duet, and then we turtle piled. Simple as that!" He finishes proudly, meeting Donnie's blank yet suprised stare. "The duet? We haven't sung that in ages..." He admits, looking down to avoid the eye contact. "It really has been a long time, I'm quite surprised I remembered all of it. You did too..."

"You did sit me down for 4 hours just to make sure I learned it properly, it was bound to happen." He admits, not even trying to play off as if he didn't.

Smirking, Leo gets an idea. "You and me~" he sings, laughing silently as the other glares. "Oh come on, Dee! For old times sake!"

"Me and you." He states flatly, unamused. "Oh come on~, please~?" Leo pleads, looking to him with big puppy eyes. "Scoff, fine. Me and you~" He sings back, turning his attention back to the phone.

"Two by two~" They sing together.

Small happy giggles emit from Leo as he pulls him in tighter, hugging him close. Accepting it, Donnie just keeps his eyes on the game as he smirks softly, not willing to admit how much he missed singing it together.
