"No. Torao is great!”
Luffy pouted at her best friend who just rolled her eyes and motioned for the short girl to keep doing her job, which was hauling Nami’s furniture around her and Vivi's apartment for the third time this month.
She didn't mind, it was good exercise but couldn't Nami just make up her mind on where she wanted her purple ‘Indigo Luffy’ couch already?
“Lu, listen. I don't usually care when you make new friends. I'm just saying,” Nami twirled a lock of hair around her manicured finger “She's the total opposite of you, and extremely cold to people. Why do you even bother with her? She always ignores you or just says you're dumb. I don't like her”
Luffy dropped the couch against the left wall like Nami asked making the ginger hiss at the sudden noise and frown in her direction “She doesn't ignore me she actually listens,” she pointed at her friend accusatively “I know it because she remembers a lot of details from times I just rumbled to her! but she remembered anyway” seriously how could someone, let alone Nami of all people accuse Law of being mean when she's the one who forces Luffy to shower or cut her hair regularly “she's just really good at multitasking and very bad with eye contact”
The ginger blinked in surprise at that “That’s… that's good to know,-”
“And! When she says I'm dumb, it's always with that adorable fond look she does when she sees something fluffy,” Luffy dropped down on the couch facing her friend with determination to protect Law, Nami just looked bewildered, Luffy had no clue why. Law is amazing, she's smart and pretty and really funny. Kind of dumb for not liking bread but no one is perfect and Luffy happily will eat the bread for her anyway.
“Isn't she well known for sleeping around and cheating on tests?” Nami slid into the seat next to her, a soft smile on her lips and her hand gently moving Luffy's sweaty bangs out of the way which made the shorter girl giggle and thank her.
“There is no way Torao cheats, she has too much pride for that” Luffy once saw her curse at a professor until he was in shambles because he ruined her perfect score on a test because he didn't know the definition of a bone, but cheating? That doesn't sound like the Law she knew “Why should I care who she slept with?” Luffy frowned at her friend who looked surprised.
“Huh, well I guess it's none of our business who she sleeps with” Nami's lips pulled into her familiar grin before she continued “After all, it's not like you care if she's in a relationship or not, right?”
Luffy knew that tone, it was Nami's I know something you don't tone. She hated that. She also hated the pinch she felt in her chest at those words.
“You like her Lu”
Luffy huffed in annoyance because obviously she likes Torao, that was the whole point of this conversation. Her friends are awesome and it'd be great if Nami stopped being mean whenever Luffy talked about Law with her.
“No no Lu,” she grabbed the brunette by her cheeks with one hand, squeezing her soft skin into a pout and making her look up “You like her like I like Vivi”
which…which was definitely not true.
Luffy liked hanging out with Law, that is true, she liked her smile and her cute laugh. Her smooth voice and sharp eyes, her hands were surprisingly soft which she loved telling the girl on occasion and seeing her cheeks turn pink. Most of all she liked how amazingly easy it is to be around her, the silence isn't stifling with her and even thinking about Law makes her feel all warm and fuzzy. But that is normal right? Luffy is very good at making friends!
“Oh no no no no no,” Nami squeezed her cheeks harder “I see your little cog- singular by the way -turning,” which hey, rude. “You think this is how you feel for all of your friends but let me remind you that you have never before in your life told me I'm wrong about a person's vibe , and I have known you for almost 15 years” the ginger finally let go of her cheeks which were hurting from the harsh treatment.
Luffy rubbed her cheeks as she pondered over Nami's words. She liked Torao? Of course she did! But would she want to hold hands or hug her? Well they already do that, they already hang out together and schedule meetings at each other's apartments or movies they wanna watch in the theater. Law is a total superhero movie nerd which is totally adorable. She guessed it's like having dates in a way, she didn't hate the idea.
But they never kissed, though Law's lips always looked inviting especially when she wore her dark lipsticks.
Did Luffy want to kiss her?
As if on cue Luffy's phone started ringing in her pocket with the iconic “Sora” theme song she put to Law's contact.
Nami raised an eyebrow at her confused and flustered friend, why is it suddenly so hot in here? She ignored her friend's smirk and picked up the phone.
“Luffy-ya, sorry for calling ahead. I just came home and realized I don't have strawberries. Do you still want that tart my dad made you last time?” Luffy could hear Law rummaging through her fridge looking for ingredients for their dinner tonight, cursing at something banging against the loose freezer door, probably her own head which she bumped again as she stood up.
It must've been too long because Law moved the receiver of the phone closer “Luffy? Are you there?” Which was a great question because physically she definitely was there holding the phone but in her own head she was now in Law's apartment kissing the living daylight out of her because of course Law remembered Luffy asking her to make her dad's tart next time they have dinner together. Because Law listens. She cares. Gods why hasn't she kissed her before?
“Torao I want bacon too!” She exclaimed into the phone as she stood up, abandoning her best friend on the couch to walk towards the entrance.
Law sighed and Luffy could feel her eyes rolling through the phone before she chuckled “I have some bacon we can fry, are you staying at mine?”
Luffy nodded fiercely as she slid her flip flops on and turned to see an amused Nami standing in the hallway giving her a knowing smirk.
“Luffy-ya I can't see you nodding through the phone” she sighed fondly again “get some strawberries on your way here then” she said before hanging up.
“Have fun on your little date,” Nami turned her around to face the door. “Nice talk, I'm glad to finally know why you were so obsessed with her” Luffy wanted to retort in some way but before she even could Nami shoved her straw hat on her head and out of the door with a gleeful good luck and a pat on the head.
Looking down at her phone she saw a message from Law just reading ‘hurry up’ which made her smile. She wanted to see Law as soon as possible.
Her blood was boiling and her cheeks were warm as she made her way towards Law's apartment, strawberries in hand and the smell of bacon welcoming her in.
Law barely cracked the door open to welcome Luffy inside before the shorter girl jumped on her causing them both to fall to the floor in a tangle of limbs and a fashionable curse from Law who glared at her friend.
“What was that for?” Law questioned from the floor as Luffy leaned over her with a huge smile.
“Torao, you're so cute!” And before the flushed girl could protest Luffy captured her lips in a soft kiss, making Law gasp slightly as they parted “I really like Torao” she couldn't help but chuckle as Law palmed her warm face, expression going from angry to confused to happy in span of seconds before she groaned and looked up at Luffy with that fond look she liked so much.
“Dumbass” she whispered as she leaned up and kissed Luffy just as gently, Luffy's heartbeat sounded like a drum in her ears as they parted a second time.
Yeah, she liked Law a lot. It's a good thing Law seems to like her back.
