Summary:

Jace thinks he might be in love.

Work Text:

“I think I’d give you the whole world, if you asked.” Jace says.

It’s a stupid statement, an even stupider statement if Jace thinks about the fact that him and Porter were supposed to be casual, goddammit.

He can see it now, Porter sitting up, well-toned back facing Jace, laughing the whole thing off. Laughing Jace off.

For once, Jace wishes he was a wizard, wishes that he knew Gift of Gab or something to smooth this whole thing over.

More than anything perhaps, Jace wishes he wasn’t in love.

“Huh?” Porter asked, looking at Jace with genuine concern.

Jace isn’t fully sure whether Porter actually didn’t hear him, or whether he’s giving Jace the second chance he wanted.

Either way, something within Jace compels him to tell Porter the truth, the same instinct perhaps that makes him want to get down on his knees and-

Jace sat up straight, suddenly thankful that Porter didn’t have Detect Thoughts.

Porter put a hand on Jace’s bare shoulder and Jace felt himself instantly relax, even lean into the touch.

Fuck.

“I was just thinking out loud.” Jace said and Porter gave him a look.

“You know I like hearing your thoughts.”

Jace felt himself grow warm and he took Porter’s hand and pressed a kiss to it, anything to distract him.

Porter laughed slightly and, with his other hand, tilted Jace’s chin upwards so that he was looking at him.

Jace was intimately aware of his heart pumping in his chest and, for a second, imagined Porter carving it out of his chest.

Jace would probably thank Porter for it too, would thank him for every bad thing that he might do to him.

It scared the shit out of him.

“Are you okay?”

Jace blinked. Focused on the man in front of him, found his footing again in the world.

“Yeah. Just… thinking about you.”

“Do I really occupy that much space in your pretty head?”

Jace felt his cheeks flush. Even if he managed to stutter out the word ‘no’, his body would give him away.

“You think I’m pretty?” He asked instead and Porter smiled and laughed a little bit, removing all physical contact from Jace.

Jace found himself sorely missing it and having to stop himself from reinitiating.

Porter glanced at Jace with a knowing look.

“You know, I really didn’t hear you before.”

“It wasn’t important.”

“Everything you say is important.”

Somehow, Jace thinks that Porter sincerely means it.

“It’s embarrassing really. I just… I said that I’d give you the world if you asked.”

There’s a moment where something shifts on Porter’s face- Jace doesn’t know what it means, doesn’t know that Porter has made the decision to kill him in this moment, and Porter presses a kiss to Jace’s lips before a strange emotion settles on Porter’s face. Jace thinks it’s love.

“I told you it was important.” Porter said, in between kisses. “Now, where were we…”
