Chapter Text
Umemiya Hajime smiles as he picks up the apples and returns it to the child who dropped them. The child beams at him and Tsubaki. Tsubaki chuckles as the child rushes away, back to his parents.
They smile at Hajime.
" It's a nice day. Maybe we'll finally get our day off. " Hajime smiles ,
" Yeah. We really need it. "
Hajime and the four kings of Bofurin were headed to the Beach. They now had their spring break. After Hajime had been raised to the position of top of Furin high, or Bofurin as it was now known, six months ago, him and his friends had not received a single day off. Now the opportunity had presented itself as a sunny , peaceful-
A loud shriek echoes through the streets.
He grimaces, he had spoken too soon.
He glances at Tsubaki ,who nods back at him. They rush to were the sound had been heard. For the past whole year, ever since the previous top of Furin had left, all the small gangs which had remained in silence had come out. They tore apart the place, wreaking havoc for they believed that Furin no longer had any power for the heavy hitters of Bofurin, the third years who had caused change had now left to pursue their careers and future.
The third years hadn't wanted to. They had wanted to stay behind for one more year but a ronin year would not look good, and they may not receive a proper chance. So they left after much persuasion.
They still visited frequently. All of them did. Most visited every month.
All but one. The previous top of Furin hadn't visited for months now. It had been five months since Hajime has spoken to him.
It wasn't his fault. He merely had a much tougher road towards the career of his choice. Hajime was supportive of him focusing on it more, but he couldn't help but feel -
His thoughts are paused when he spots a woman rushing towards them. The two slow down their pace to listen to the woman.
The woman's feet come to a pause in front of them. She pants, bracing her hand on her knees to stop herself from falling
" Yama - Yamagishi's stall is being ransacked. Hurry."
Tsubaki smiles and thanks the woman profusely before rushing alongside Hajime towards the shop that was two streets away.
Hajime and Tsubaki quicken their pace and soon arrive at the scene. A large crowd had formed, surrounding the fight. All too frightened to move or help.
Hajime grits his teeth, calming himself down. They were common people, obviously they were afraid. They have never fought before. All reasons were stupid, but to an extent, true.
He pushes past the people and quickly examines the area and the damage caused. He glances to his right when he hears footsteps rushing towards them. Hiragi, Momose and Mizuki had arrived too. He nods at Hiragi, who nods back. It was time to finish this off quickly.
He decides to raise his voice to gain attention to their presence but he was beaten to it by someone else.
" OI" A loud, sharp below echoes through the street. All activity stops. All eyes turn swiftly to the owner of the voice. ( an achingly familiar voice.)
The person stood casually hands in the pocket of his jacket and his hood raised. Once he feels everyone's gazes on him, he slowly allows the hood to fall back, revealing his two toned hair, of colours black and white, and his heterochromatic eyes, one the colour of twilight and the other gold that glows.
There stood the previous top of Furin, Sakura Haruka glaring daggers at the rowdy bunch that was ransacking the shop of an old man.
He lazily stretches his legs as he begins speaking
" Really, is there a single day you lot can't make yourself look lame. Every morning running around like a bunch of lunatics, wreaking havoc , destroying property, ransacking shops, and of course " He stretches his arms, standing upright again "Parading yourself as strong " He sighs " Aren't you people ashamed? I thought you guys were better now " He cracks his neck " Well, who cares. I'll put you lot to place. The juniors could use a break. "
The men stare at him, wondering what to do next. One person ,their leader presumably , shouts
" Hey!! Guys it's fine! It's just one retired old veteran!"
" I've only been gone for a year " Sakura huffs
" We can take him!! Let's fight !!" He continues with a sneer. The group cheers
" A rather stupid decision. " Hajime hears from beside him, causing him to jolt. He gazes to his side to spot Suou Hayato and Nirei Akhiko.
" Why hello, Umemiya-kun. Are you well? " Suou asks, tassel earrings swishing as he turns to smile at Hajime
Hajime nods, " Why are you guys here? " He cannot help but question
" Why? It's spring break isn't it? " Suou answers, smiling, turning back to the fight.
Hajime sighs, knowing that he wouldn't receive anymore information from his senior, turns back to watch the fight.
Sakura hadn't spoken yet, waiting for the men to calm down. Once they did, he spoke
" So, I take it that you lot are confident you can win?" He asks, a grin twitching up his lips.
They cheer and rush towards him. He answers by retaliating and quickly taking the upper hand in the fight. Hajime had almost forgotten, how well the previous top of Furin fought. How wonderful it was to watch him attack and block without even looking at the direction from which the attack came from.
He watches, mesmerised.
His attention is captured by the leader once again who yells
" Why look!! Your juniors are here!! What would happen if they were injured!? Look's like they received a good hit from someone. "
He glances back at Sakura who quickly looks around. Searching for them. Heterochromatic eyes soon lock onto them and soon their gaze turns to him. They gaze at each other, unsaid words and emotions brimming in both.
Hajime watches as the leader then rushes towards Sakura to pierce him with a knife. Sakura doesn't even turn ,to look or to dodge. He wants to yell, raise his voice, capture Sakura's attention. Ask him too move but he can't find his voice.
But perhaps, in those moments he had forgotten that Sakura didn't need to see. He watches as the other twists the hand with the knife and punches the other in the gut.
" Don't bring a knife into a fist-" Sakura pauses abruptly, eyes narrowing at the expression put on by his opponent before they widen in realisation. On realisation of what, Hajime wanted to know. But he wasn't too curious, quite relieved that Sakura dodged.
But he also seemed to have forgotten how crooked these men were. How straight forward that attack was.
But in the end, he wasn't quick enough to prevent the others blood from spilling.
A knife had found it's way past Sakura's defense barriers, piercing him.
