Chapter Text
Black and white dreams usually meant danger, Wren Matthews had come to learn. All they were were cold visions of what was yet to come. She had thought she would have been used to it all by now, but the familiarity never came. In fact, they just kept feeling more and more foreign.
She had thought that once the Gateway closed, she would never dream of Vita and its citizens again. She had stopped Boggen and Jack, that world should be safe now, shouldn't it? If it was safe, why was she still dreaming in the city of Nod? Why did she still see panic across the faces of the Magicians? Everytime she was transported to that world, all she felt was terror. Terror that it wasn't over yet, that there was a greater storm to come. One that would end in fire, burning down the pillars of the city the Magicians built and everything with it.
It didn't seem fair to her, she was only 11. Why did she have to be terrorized with knowing what was to come, to know that theres blood on her hands and will continue to be? Even now, without magic, the dreams wouldn't leave her alone. All she could do is hope to wake up to find it was nothing more than a dream. Nothing more than a nightmare. To know that people weren't truly in danger, to know that she wouldn't be at fault for whatever horrible thing was to happen. She didn't feel blessed to have this ability, she felt more cursed than anything. Why should a kid of all people be expected to be one to turn the tables onto their sides, be the one to save everyone? She did her part, she saved Earth and Jack, she brought Boggen to his knees, why should she have to do more?
It didn't matter though, she knew this. The clouds would open up overhead, and the storm will come whether she wants it to or not. This was the destiny The Crooked Man had planned for her. She would be the one to bring down everything that Nod was, giving everything she was in the process. It wasn't fair, not at all, but this was the life she had been handed, and all she could do was hope to be awakened from this nightmare eventually.
