The Sleepover

Summary:

Gojo was lying down on a cold wooden floor when Geto passes over him with lazy steps already giving up on getting him to help make the place so they can finally sleep.
“I’ve been bearing your whiny ass for 3 days Satoru, I kinda need you to shut up for 5 minutes,” said Suguru, dropping down a set of blankets right next to Satoru's head.
“Wait, why are you bringing blankets for me?” Satoru said, half getting up from the floor and looking at Suguru.
“I don’t know what you were thinking..”
“He wasn’t thinking” Nanami interrupted from where he was sitting at the dining table at the corner of the room.
“...but we’re giving the bed to Shoko obviously,” Suguru continued.

Work Text:

Gojo was lying down on a cold wooden floor, whining and complaining non-stop for what seemed to be hours to others, but was just around 15 minutes in fact. Geto passes over him with lazy steps already giving up on getting him to help make the place so they can finally sleep.

Shoko, Gojo, and Geto were originally sent for this mission, but as the scale of the incident got bigger and bigger, Nanami and Haibara were sent too, it wasn't dangerous per se, just a lot of work and exhausting, completely opposite to what Gojo would enjoy.

“He wasn’t thinking” Nanami interrupted from where he was sitting at the dining table at the corner of the room. busy with putting together his so-called healthy meal. Gojo gave him one of the longest sides eyes known to men.

“...but we’re giving the bed to Shoko obviously,” Suguru continued.
Satoru looked at the single bed on the other side of the room, it was still empty.
“well not if I get there faster..”, sounding excited for the first time that night, but his attempt was cut short with one long sigh given by Suguru, which made him plop down to the floor again, “First I have to kill a million of those stupid ass curses and now I have to sleep on the fucking floor?” Saturo cried out.

The room was rather small, they were told that it would be a bit dangerous tonight so the best option was for all of them to sleep in the same room so at least one of them sensed the curses throughout the night. The curses were all low grades so it was all about just sensing them on time. Which led to them having to sleep in a studio with only one bed, which was Shoko’s now apparently.

Haibara came out of the bathroom, looking dangerously energetic for someone who had worked all day. He picked up the first blanket to throw it properly on the floor, picking up what Suguru had been putting mindlessly on the floor.

“Hey,” Satoru turned his face to look at him now, crawling on the floor so now his face was directly under Haibara “Don’t you think I should be the one to have the bed? I’m not even talking for myself but it is rude to make the heir of the Gojo clan sleep on the floor,” he said, with a deadpan expression.

“Satoru” Suguru’s voice came from out of the room, where blankets were located apparently, he seemed out of breath while carrying all those heavy stuff into the hall “Don’t even try pulling the Gojo heir card”. he then sat down on the bed breathing heavily.

“Geto san is right! it’s only right that we give the bed to Shoko san since we are all guys here ” Haibara said, receiving the gentlest smile from Geto. Satoru still had no idea what was the set up here, why was Suguru acting like Haibara’s father?

“No yeah whatever"

so he just sulked away letting haibara make the place.

“I’m sorry Gojo-san. I didn’t mean to upset you” said Haibara, genuinely sorry.

“Oh please don’t mind him,” said Nanami, still at the dining table, cutting bread this time. no one really gets why Nanami couldn’t have McDonald's like the rest of them, but he had his habits and none of them dared to speak. not to his face at least.

Shoko entered the room, making a beeline for the bed, Suguru sat up so Shoko could claim the place, and went to the blanket Haibara had thrown earlier, lying down.

“I have picked my place,” Suguru mumbled, making himself comfortable on the futon.
it was an early November night making it cold as hell, Satoru would say.

ten seconds later Satoru was clinging to him like a koala.” you can just sleep on the next blanket,”

no answer.

“no”

after half a minute.

Suguru had one hand under Satoru's head and the other opened his hair tie, “do you remember what Yaga-sensei said about the break we are going to have?”

“Yeah, something about it being before Christmas so we can be slaved around killing curses on Christmas while teachers are out.”

“So that means I have to buy a Christmas present for you this year since we’re spending it together,”

Satoru lifted his face a bit, locking eyes with Suguru “Are we going to kiss at midnight?” he deadpanned.

before Suguru could register his words there was a pillow thrown into Satoru’s face making it shove backward, “fucking ow, what is wrong with you?”

Shoko's voice followed, irritated, "Please take that gay shit somewhere else and let me sleep."

“Who said I was gay?”

Shoko looked at him with narrowed eyes, then stood up to retrieve her pillow from the floor, unamused. Suguru on the other side, was making a face of disgust while hoping no one could see the faint blush on his face.
Shoko returned to her bed with one last side eye.

Suguru was no stranger to Gojo randomly spitting out these types of statements.
however, he shifted awkwardly, his mind somewhere else. thinking about how Satoru is most definitely overjoyed deep down, knowing that he is about to escape those overly awkward and entirely boring Gojo family Christmas parties this year, but he won’t mention, since he never seems to mention anything about how life was for him before highschool, Suguru could only imagine how awful it would be, spending every day inside that traditional household and being homeschooled.

something passed through him that looked like sadness,... or affection, and also Nanami, who was trying to get to the other side of the room to turn off the lights.

“Hey Nanami, do you have any plans this Christmas?”

he stopped in the track a second “I don’t think I’m allowed to have plans”

“Me and Satoru could cover up for you two, I can talk to Yaga sensei” he looked at Satoru, who had gone back to his Kuala-like position, for some backup.

“yeah whatever that is, your senpai’s do not need no one’s help”

Suguru's features softened into a smile, that was Satoru’s way of saying go have fun.

Nanami stayed silent as he made a beeline to his futon after turning off the light.

“I’m staying, thank you geto-san”

“you’re welcome,” Gojo said with his eyes closed. Suguru only flashed a weak smile in Nanami’s way and pinched Gojo on the arm.

“Hey, haibara, what about you”

they all looked at Haibara who had already drifted off to sleep. Nanami also lay down beside him, there were four futons next to each other, and the bed was right above their head, where Shoko was lying down staring at the sailing. deep in thoughts.

The idea of spending Christmas with other jujutsu students wasn’t so bad, in fact, it wasn’t bad at all, ever since the day she grabbed her suitcase and left for jujutsu high, home hasn’t been the same, and it probably never will be, the things she had seen in the past two years, being a jujutsu sorcerer, has made her an entirely different person.

It's hard, trying to spend quality time with people who know nothing of her world, and it’s getting harder.

And she feels awful.

Maybe she can talk about it with Geto later.
“I can’t sleep,” Gojo said.

Shoko sighed, torn from her contemplation of the ceiling. She turned her gaze towards Gojo, who was still lying on the floor beside her bed. "Well, whining about it won't help you sleep," she retorted.

Suguru chuckled at Gojo's expense. " You should try counting cursed sheep or something."

“I’m thinking cursed Christmas trees, and cursed gifts”

“Is this tree having cursed high schoolers around?” Shoko said. lying on her bed.
"only mistletoe, I don’t care about the rest"
Suguru let out a chuckle.

Gojo perked up at his own suggestion. "Oh but, that's not a bad idea actually. Imagine being forced to kiss whoever stands under it."

The room fell into silence.

Shoko rolled her eyes. "what did I say earlier…"

“Satoru…” suguru said.

“I just said that, like, hypothetically”

“Sure”

The room fell into silence again, The atmosphere was oddly comforting despite the exhaustion and the imminent mission. With only moonlight shining through the room.

Shoko gazed up at the ceiling again. "Hey, what about cursed snowmen" he suggested, breaking the silence.

Gojo shot him a disapproving look. "okay now, let's not turn everything into a cursed scenario, I actually like snowmen, I may not have the heart to kill one of them and all of us will die tragically"

“So cursed snowman is where you draw the line?”

Nanami came in, not indulging in their heat ”What does all these even mean”

Then, the silence was loud among the three of them, and no one broke it this time.

The sound of breathing and Haibara's light snore, the slightly chilly weather, and the comfort of Satotu’s body heat and the blankets were making Suguru feel very much nostalgic, it was so cozy like this, He knew he was surrounded by people he loved, he knew he got what he always wanted, but it wasn't going to last and he was sure of this even with having no reason at all, people said he was that glue friend. He wondered whether if anything happened to him, they were going to be fine.

He then wondered if Satoru would be fine, or, what if it wasn’t him? What if it was Satoru who was going to have some major change of plans, what if Satoru was about to have something happen to him?

The pipes made a small noise and it took Suguru out of his thoughts, then he got a slight chill, maybe it was still too cold to sleep.

With that, the grip around him tightened. Satoru was trying to find a comfortable position, the white hair was a bit tickly on his face. Suguru was fighting some demons trying to not kiss his head while it was so close and tempting.

The thought of something bad happening to Satoru made him uneasy, he went back to throwing whatever the misfortune was in his own way.

Yeah this was definitely better.

He closed his eyes, reminding himself of the time and date to ground himself, once again, and it wasn’t working, he couldn’t find peace with the nagging feeling in his chest that nothing was permanent.

Satoru shifted again and raised his head to look at Suguru.

“ I want to play the question game.”

“Cut it off please I’m sleeping”

The white-haired boy let out a sigh and halfway dropped his head, but then, like getting an idea, he raised his head again, put away some strands of hair that were on Suguru’s forehead, and kissed him right in the middle.

“Good night Suguru”
