You were excited. Your best friend Sam was coming back home from his mission. When he called you telling you that he was coming back, you couldn’t help but to feel giddy inside. It has been a long time since you saw him. Ever since your dad passed, Sam had really filled in that fatherly role. Sarah was kind of like the sister you wished you had and Sam before taking the fatherly role was like the older brother you wished for. Your family wasn’t bad per se. It’s just that they had a hard time adjusting to certain things.
For example; your mom never liked Sam and Sarah’s family boat because she gets seasick or however she told you. Your sister, Ollie, just didn’t like it. She is very picky. She was also four years older than you. And don’t tell her, but she also very much likes to steal your boyfriend’s. That’s why relationships weren’t always your strongest suit because of her.
The slight Louisiana breeze blew through your dress and heard a familiar voice fill up your ears. “I think the wind doesn’t want you to flash everyone, love.” You spun to see Sam standing in front of you. You laughed and squinted towards him, wrapping your arms around his neck as he picked up from the ground. Sam put you down on your feet and kissed your head.
“Hey, kiddo. You doing alright?” You nod at his question with a small smile.
“Yeah, I’m good. Just missed you. Even though your nephews were tackling me to the ground because we were football earlier.” You joked, causing Sam to laugh at your dramatic face. The both of you became serious for a minute.
“I heard something about this new wannabe Captain America, but I hope you know that nobody could replace Steve, right? He was a good man, Sam.” You whisper as he nodded slowly, taking a shaky inhale in. “I know.. It’s just hard for me…”
You nodded back and pulled him into a hug. He broke the hug, tugging you in his side with an arm around your shoulder as the both of you walk to see Tommy and Carlos unloading the truck.
“Tommy, Carlos, man, this is amazing.” Sam said in awe as you smiled at them.
“Thanks so much, Tom and Car. It really means a lot to us.” You chipped in, giving them huge hugs.
“Word goes out the Wilson Family needs help? We still got a bit of usefulness in us.”
“How do we get off the truck?” Sam asked just as you looked up to see a guy in a leather jacket lift off the truck as if it was nothing, placing it on the ground.
You were met with the prettiest blue eyes you’ve ever seen. The man didn’t see you standing there, but you most definitely saw him. Short hair, light scruffy beard, dark jeans and a black and gold metal arm. He was gorgeous.
“You’re welcome.” The man said and Sam started walking over to him as you stood there with Carlos and Tommy. The guy pulled some type of box on top of the truck. “Just dropping this off. You can sign for it and I’ll go. I called in a favor from the Wakandanas.” The sound of a hissing noise caught your attention immediately and gasped.
“Sam!” You called out. He cursed under his breath as he stepped over the metal to fix it. Blue eyes followed, but stopped for a second. “Hi.” He said to you, “Hi.” You replied back shyly and he went off to help Sam.
You liked the sound of his calm voice as he told Sam what to do and magically, the hissing stopped. You and Sarah glanced at each other with impressed looks. But Sarah saw you smiling slightly at him and nudged you softly, causing you to look at her.
“You like him.” She stated. Your face turned red. “I barely know him, Sar.” You answer as you see them talking. She just shrugged. “So? I know you too well for that look and you like him. It was the same look you gave Bradley.”
You sighed softly at his name. Bradley Garcia. Your first love. Your kiss. The person who took virginity. It wasn’t that Bradley wasn’t a bad man, but he broke up with you because he wasn’t ready for a relationship and you understood that. So you guys’ parted and of course you were heartbroken, because who can get over their first loves? Especially after their first love who took their virginity? And then he went off with your sister.
You shook your head at Sarah with a soft smile as she walked over to the boat to check it and you helped her.
“You want help?” The man asked Sam and he nodded with a reply, walking away but blue eyes stayed behind, now looking at you. “I’m Bucky.” He introduced himself to you. You gave him a smile. “Ah, y/n.” He repeated your name while Sam looked back at him with an eye roll once Bucky followed him, but not without catching one more glimpse at you. Before turning around. You swore you saw a smile on his face.
Sarah bumped your hip with hers. “Told you. He clearly seems interested. And you’re gorgeous. Flawless really. You got the curves, the body, the sweetest personality and pretty cool fucking hair. Now c’mon, help me finish this and you could go talk to him.” You blushed feverishly and nodded.
Gosh, this was gonna be a long day.

After a few hours of helping Sarah out with the kids and making sure that boat was ready and clean. You saw Bucky staring out in the distance as he skillfully flipped a knife in his metal hand. You can’t deny it. He was beautiful. You wanted to get to know him. So as you exhaled shakily, smoothing down your dress and crossed your denim jacket with your arms crossed under your breasts. You walked over heading down the stairs, which made his head snap over to you and a small smile plastered on his pretty face.
Hi, y/n.” He said softly, almost shyly. You chuckled under your breath, leaning against the boat. “Hi, pretty boy. You doing alright? You seem distracted.”
He shrugged slightly, staring into the distance once more. “Penny for your thoughts? I’ve been told I am a very good listener.” You tease, causing him to chuckle softly and catch a glance at you.
“I don’t want to bother you with my fucked up life, doll.” You shrug, shaking your head at him. “You’re not. But if you don’t want to talk about it, I’ll understand too.”
Bucky sighs softly and licks his lips before starting. “I..it’s just I don't know how Sam could give up Steve’s shield. And I don’t know how Steve could just..leave. He was the only family I had left..”
You only knew the story because Sam told you. after Thanos. How they beat him, how Iron Man died in battle and how Steve went back to his time to be the infamous Peggy Carter. You couldn’t imagine the pain that he was feeling seeing his only family leave. You know that feeling a little too much than you realize.
“Maybe Sam thought he was doing the right thing. That..That shield carries a lot of memories and he had to let go, be his own person. Sure, he lost his wingman and that hurts like hell, but sometimes you gotta let go and keep moving forward.” You explained to him and you saw that he was taking your advice seriously.
“How do I do that?” He soon asked you while turning his body to you, giving you his full attention. You smiled immediately, moving in front of him.
“Do you trust me?” You whispered and he laughed softly. “I just met you, but I guess, yeah.” You offered him your hand and he hesitated a little.
“It’s okay. You’re safe with me.” You tell him gently, making him look up and nod slowly, grabbing your hand. You smiled at him softly, pulling him along with you. Bucky follows behind in silence as the both of you walk to the docks. The sun was starting to set and there was nothing like a stunning view of Louisiana sunsets.
“Have you seen sunsets before?” You ask him as you laced your fingers through his metal ones and he glances down for a second before clearing his throat, ignoring the shiver that went down his spine. It has been a long time since Bucky felt this way about a woman. The world has definitely changed since he was finally able to see the daylight again.
Now that he finally found his voice and was in control of his own mind again, he allows himself to loosen his stiff muscles just like his therapist said.
Surround yourself with good people. Let your emotions flow. Find the person you once were before the Super Soldier serum.
It was difficult for Bucky to find his old self again. After many traumatic moments with Hydra, he didn’t want to go back to his old self. Maybe explore this era? Maybe finally gets his own happy ending? But who would a former ex-soldier murder as theirs? Probably nobody. But that’s where you come in.
You were the prettiest dime Bucky has seen in a long time. Soft curves. The most beautiful smile he’s ever seen. Golden skin, soft freckles covering the bridge of your nose and underneath your eyes. Cute cupid bow lips that for some apparent reason, wanted to feel against his. Your hair was colored. It was a dark plum burgundy ish color with hints of many different colors that he’s never seen before. It suited you well. Your round glasses also framed your face perfectly. You were really fucking pretty.
“You’re pretty.” Bucky blurts out while his face turns beet red. You bite your lip to shuffle your giggle. “Thank you. You’re uh, pretty too.”
He also likes the sound of your giggle. It was the cutest thing he’s ever heard.
Bucky’s eyes drifted down your chest and god, he felt like a teenager again on date with a girl. The dress looked so good on you. It rose up every now and again when you shifted to make yourself comfortable. His eyes caught a piece of jewelry on your ankle and wrist. They were butterflies. The one on your wrist had a ring attached to it and the one on your ankle was a 2 piece.
Jesus. You really did look good.
“Done staring at me, pretty boy?” He heard you question as you turned your head lazily, placing it on top of your knees. Bucky was speechless. He was caught red handed.
“I..” He stuttered, trying to gather his thoughts one by one in his mind. You gave him a soft smirk. “I’m kidding. Please do continue. I like the attention.” You teased him, which caused Bucky to let out a huff laugh.
“I’m sorry, doll. You’re just.. Really fucking gorgeous.” He whispers as his voice drops into a huskier tone. You hum softly and did something very unexpected that shocked him. You threw a leg over his thighs, keeping your hands to yourself. “This okay?”
His heart melts as you check in with him. He nodded slowly. But that wasn’t enough for you. “Words, pretty boy.”
“Y..Yes. It’s okay, sugar.”
You then crossed your arms over your chest, looking dead set in his steel blues.
“Listen to me Bucky, I may have just met you, but from what I’ve heard ‘bout you, remember that’s not you anymore. You didn’t have control over your own body or anything for that matter. But what I do know from what Steve told me. Yes I met him, you are sweet, charming, generous and a gentleman. Yeah it’ll take time to get there back to yourself again, but always, always remember that you have people around you who want to help you through this process. Sam included. Even though he doesn’t seem like it. He has your back just like Steve had yours.”
Bucky tries not to let your words get to him, but they did. Why couldn’t you be his therapist? Dr Raynor was tough on him. Maybe that’s what he needs though. A little bit of both maybe? Tough love and someone who can see through him. His therapist did both anyway. She knew when he was lying, bored or just plain sad. But you. With you, it was refreshing. Like he could breathe again.
“Can you be my therapist now, please?” He asked with a hint of tenderness in his voice as they both chuckled softly. And his eyes flutter as your lips touch his head.
Bucky leaned back on his hands looking at you with such fondness in his steel blues. He has never been treated with such sweetness and kindness ever since he got his memory back.
Still everywhere he went people still looked at him as if he was that… but he wasn’t anymore. He was himself, just now, he was closed off. Distant. A trauma victim..? He thinks that’s what they’re called. But his actions harmed everyone.. Even Yori.
“I see the gears spinning around. Whatever you’re thinking—it is not your fault. You were used, brainwashed and held against your will, Bucky. It wasn’t you. It was their fault.”
He let the softness of your voice comfort his soul—or what was left of it.
Bucky nods slowly and sees you give him that gorgeous smile. If you were in the 40s with him? You’d be the prettiest dame he’s ever seen.
He would take you out dancing every night until he left, so he could have a memorable thing to think about and then if he didn’t fall from that train…He would take you dancing again and then probably ask you to be his girlfriend.
“You’re staring at me like that..again. What’s on your mind this time?” The gentle voice pulls him away from his head and he sits up again, placing his right hand on your hip.
“Just thinking.. If you were in my time, you'd be the most beautiful dame I’ve ever seen. Probably ask you to come dance with me and we’ve danced the night away before I had to go..” He said with a soft tone. You immediately smiled, scattering off his lap, putting your phone out from your pocket and putting on Swing the Mood by Jive Bunny.
You held out your hand with a giddy smile on your face. “Show me what you got, handsome.” Bucky bites his lip containing his smile that threatened his face as he got up, grabbing your hand in his flesh hand. “I..I’m rusty. I probably won’t remember.” He admits with a small laugh. You just smiled at him with a shrug.
“That’s okay. Just do what you do know.”
He nods and starts moving with you to the music, getting a feel for it again. Then the more the song played, he felt comfortable. You were following his lead perfectly as if you were made for this.
You and him side by side, hands enclosed doing the Charleston, laughing softly as you both did so. But then Bucky gets an idea. “Do you trust me?” You nodded. “Yes.” He nodded back and exhaled softly.
“Move back but not too much.” He instructed and you did what he asked.
He moved back slightly as well. “Now run. I promise to catch you.” He said firmly as he sensed that you were nervous. You took a deep breath out, squinting towards him and he instantly grabbed your waist pulling you over his shoulder and over his back. Then placed you in front of him as you both panting heavily.
“Bucky!!” You squealed softly, throwing your arms around his neck while he let out a laugh, wrapping his arms around your lower back, spinning you around gently.
The both of you part away from each other with hazy dopey smiles on your faces. “That was AMAZING.” You gushed. “Is this how you felt when you danced every night?” Bucky smiled shyly with a nod.
“Pretty much, yeah. It was the best way to feel high in a way.” He answers. You moved to your phone, playing another song before going back to him.
“Teach me more, please?” You asked sweetly and he blushed. For some reason, he liked this one song as he spun you around. “What’s the name of this song?” He asked you as you went over his arm, hair fanning over your face. You smiled at him.
“Lovin’ On You. By Luke Combs.” You replied, following his lead.
“I like it.”
And that’s how the rest of the night goes. You and Bucky by the docks have the time of your lives. It has been such a long time since Bucky felt this good. He met you, he’s swing dancing with you as if the Bucky from the past came back to life and it was all thanks to you.

It had been a couple of weeks since you and Bucky danced the night away before Sam came to get you, saying that we had to get some food in your stomachs. You and Bucky didn’t even notice the time. So you and him walked hand in hand, heading towards Sarah’s house, laughing along the way at stories he was telling you about Steve. Bucky has never felt so content. Such peace with such a beautiful woman. Your presence was so peaceful and kind. He wanted to keep seeing you and keep coming over to your house.
Bucky has learned a lot about you. How you are a nurse, learned about your parents, how your dad passed away. How you and your mom are close and how your sister Ollie doesn’t like you for unknown reasons. What’s not to like about you?
He could list off so many possibilities of how you are likable. You were even kind enough to let him crash on your couch. Your house was homey and welcoming. Just like you.
“Good morning, handsome.” Your angelic voice filled his ears as he looked up to see you, looking stunning as ever.
Today you wore a red dress with butterflies, glasses and your hair was down again but it was curled. You looked like a dream. He just watched you walk over to him with a cup of coffee. The cinnamon vanilla scent hit him right off the bat, causing his lashes to flutter at the comforting smell.
“You slept okay? No nightmares?” You kept the same soft and comforting voice as you kneeled down in front of him and he turned on his side while shaking his head softly. “No nightmares.” He whispers quietly, lifting his right hand to brush the hair out of your face. You smiled at him, leaning in to peck his nose gently. Bucky’s heart swoons at the touch. He almost wanted to cry. You were so sweet and gentle towards him.
He didn’t deserve someone like you.
“I know it’s not easy to fight your demons, Bucky, but you have to try, okay? Remember that you’re NOW in control of everything again.” His breathing slowed down as he opened his eyes, looking at you.
“Are you some godsend angel or something? Are you sure you aren’t a therapist?”
You giggled softly, shaking your head. “No therapist, handsome. Just a nurse. C’mon, we’re going somewhere. Get ready.” You said with a beaming smile. Bucky shoved his face in the soft pillow with a groan. You were too chippy in the morning, but he didn’t mind it.
“Where are we going?” He asked and you just gave him a small smile.
“I’m taking you out. C’mon old man, get up. And we could do more swing dancing.” That made him laugh a little.
Ever since the night on the docks you and Bucky have been swing dancing together. Swinging the night away as the both of you called it. You kept him on toes. You kept him occupied and more importantly, you kept him feeling appreciated, cared for and respected.
When it came to physical contact, Bucky wasn’t the greatest fan. But he made an exception for you and only you. Everyone else could shove it. Bucky could feel it. He was slowly, but surely falling for you. He liked everything about you. From your stunning looks to your gorgeous smile to your fucking sweet and kind personality.
He just wonders to himself, what did he do to have such a beautiful woman like yourself take care of him and just waltz into his fucked up messy life. He doesn’t know how, but he most certainly likes it. It’s been a long time since someone cared for him. Ever since his ma, dad and sister then Steve. He felt like he had nobody left in the world. But then, there’s Sam (Steve’s other best friend), Sarah and you. Whatever he was feeling, Bucky hopes that it will last….——————————————-
“This is my favorite place to go.” You said to Bucky, looking around at the little bistro. You could definitely feel his intense stare, but you didn’t mind it. You knew you were beautiful. Hell, you stare at yourself in the mirror sometimes too.
Bucky though? Oh boy. You have downright bad for the former Soldat. He is kind, sweet, shy, rough around the edges, but you could understand that considering what he’s been through.
He gave you a small smile, reaching for your hand, entwining them with his.“Yeah? Then I’ll keep taking you here.” He said warmly with a tender tone, making you blush at his words.
“Hoping for a second date, handsome?” You flirted as you let out a soft giggle when it was his turn to blush.
Then you realized. You just said date…
“Bucky-“ you started but he shook his head. “It’s okay… Calling it a date kind of feels nice. I..I really like you, y/n” You smiled softly, lacing your fingers with his without him flinching at the touch. “I like you too, Jamie. C’mon let’s finish up and we'll take a ride on that bike of yours.” He chuckles as the corners of his lips curled up into a small smirk.
“You like that bike more than me, pretty angel.” He replies with a laugh as you scrunched up your nose. He thought it was the most adorable thing ever.
Bucky felt like he got lucky when he saw you. Like as if the universe was giving him a second chance at life that he was supposed to live after the War. But with everything that happened to him, he didn’t think he was worthy of loving another human. He wasn’t the same guy who entered the War with his best friend. He was a changed man. He damaged and broke goods. He didn’t think he was good enough. But you?
You brought back out the same old guy that he was before. It felt good..You weren’t scared of him. You made him feel comfortable, confident and content. You let him voice what made him uncomfortable or what he didn’t or did like. Bucky finally had control of his own mind and voice. You were just a part of it.
꘎♡━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━♡꘎
“Thank you for a wonderful night, Bucky.” You say to him with a smile on your face and he mirrored it. He walks you to your door, putting his hands in his pockets. “You’re welcome, honey. I should be thanking you. I haven’t had this much fun since the 40s.” He admits shyly and you just lean in close to him, lifting yourself up on your toes to press your lips on his cheek with your hand on his chest. His eyes fluttered as you moved away.
“We can do it again, if you want. We could find a place that does swing dancing and we can go.” He swore his heart was beating so fast once you said that.
“Really? T..That would be amazing, sweetheart.” He breathes and places his right hand on your hip to tug you closer.
“I thought so,” you answered with a giggle as he nudged the tip of his nose with yours. “We’d have a blast, Jamie.”
He loved when you said his name.
He smiled at you and asked, “can I kiss you?” You smirked softly. “I’d be offended, if you didn’t.” He laughed lightly, leaning in to press his soft chapped lips against yours.
The kiss was gentle, slow, tender. You both felt like you just got out of a movie. You broke the kiss while pressing your head to his head with your eyes still closed. You lift your eyelids to see that Bucky is already looking at you with such fondness in his eyes.
“Goodnight, Jamie.” You whispered softly, pulling away from him with a smile. He brought your hand to his lips and kissed the back of your knuckles, letting your hand from his. Walking down the stairs not moving his eyes from you.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.” He whispered back, watching a blush appear on your face as you walked into your house. Bucky turned around, heading towards his bike with a giddy smile on his face.
Will he finally get his happy ending after all?
All he knows now is that, he’s never letting you go.
