The Queen and the Archer (Retell)

Summary:

This is just a slight retelling of the story, Idk which to pick so I just made this separate, and changed the timeline, this started after Spring Unsprung.

Work Text:

It was another lovely day in Ever After High, everything went back to normal after the Wonderland kids reversed the effects of what the Cheshire Cat's chair led to and Kitty with her mom's relationship better.

Lizzie was grateful to have her Bunny and Alistair, and now she has to stay hopeful for her possible return to her home, Wonderland with the help of friends , of course.

She was walking in her Tall Tale Studies with her book bag and sat on her seat where everyone was quickly filling in and Professor Jack B. Nimble entered and cleared his throat. Everyone stopped and looked at him at the front. "Students, you might or might not heard that we have transferees in this school other than from Wonderland." Lizzie made an amused face as her two friends were now a student in Ever After but kept on listening to the other news

"We have one of the new transferees in our class," Professor Jack B. Nimble faced at the door, "You may come in now." The door slowly swung open as a tall girl with a brown low ponytail, blue eyes, a navy blue short jacket and pants, and a white top. The girl stood in front of the class and introduced herself with a calm smile, "Hello, My name is Diana, Diana Archer, the daughter of the Archer who slayed the Dragon, I enjoyed reading, sketching, and doing archery, of course. And I hope we'll get along."

Everyone mumbled to each other that she was pretty and looked really calm. Lizzie doesn't mind the new girl as she just thinks she's just a normal person in the future queen's eyes.

"Alright, everyone settle down." The professor raised his voice and then turned to Diana in his regular tone, " Now, Miss Archer, why don't you sit beside Miss Lizzie Hearts there."

Everyone went quiet and held their breath not because of him as they heard what he said, though Lizzie was a nice person in the past, everyone in this school is still feared for her quick temper and her title. Diana nodded at him, went up to her seat, and sat next to her as everyone watched them.

Professor Jack B. Nimble clapped his hands to get their attention and started the lesson

Still, Lizzie didn't acknowledge her and paid attention to the study until she heard from her.

"I like your outfit," Diana spoke in a lax voice when she looked at her. Lizzie was shocked by this not because she complimented her, it's because she wasn't afraid of her to talk to her or even look at her, by her title or anything since anyone would be afraid of her.

'Maybe she doesn't know.' Lizzie thought to herself.

She thanked her and got back to paying attention to the lesson. Diana smiled at her and also paid attention to the lesson.

After the lesson, Professor Jack assigned an assignment to work on and called out the names of those who would be paired, as soon they were getting called the last ones were, "Diana Archer and Lizzie Hearts, you two will be paired together." Everyone looked worried for the new girl for she was paired with the Lizzie Hearts, but Diana didn't think much of it and nodded at the professor, Lizzie scoffed at how loud the room was just because of her being paired with the new kid. This is nothing more than a duo project.

"Now, that everyone is paired. The due will be on Friday. Class dismissed." After the bell rang, Lizzie quickly went out of the classroom but someone called for her name, she quickly turned and saw Diana catching up with her.

As she was in front of her, Diana spoke "Hey, I know the deadline won't be until 3 days but I want to just start it right away, so can we meet up in the courtyard later after school?"

Lizzie thought about this for a few seconds as everyone stared at Diana, and they thought she might have offended her, Lizzie spoke with a hint of sternness, "Sure, but don't be late. I don't tolerate tardiness."

Diana nodded and smiled calmly "Of course, see you later. Lizzie." She waved goodbye at her as she walked in the other direction. Lizzie found her enthusiasm very odd but in a good way, Lizzie was a bit interested in this archer girl.

After Lizzie's last class, she made her way to the school's courtyard. She waited for Diana, she was never this early or she just thought Diana had forgotten. So she waited until it was almost 2 pm until she heard her voice.

"Sorry, sorry, Am I late?" Diana panted as she held her bag

"No, but you shouldn't keep a princess waiting." Lizzie stared at the girl as spoke in an authoritative tone.

"Sorry, I was doing something and then-"

"That's enough, we wasted too much time and we have to plan the project." Lizzie cut her off as she opened her book bag and laid down the needed things on the quartz table. Diana sat down next to her and planned first on their project about making a whole storybook.

It was awkward at the start, between the both while working. Diana started to make small talk, and Lizzie would answer shortly as they were working. As Diana talked more, Lizzie answered more, they seemed to have some commonality with each other even though Diana was a normal commoner and Lizzie was royalty. Which surprised Lizzie.

They seem to have a fondness for sketching and drawing, only that Lizzie was a designer and Diana wasn't, they also talked more about their favorite flowers, Diana's being blue orchids while of course, Lizzie's are red roses. Lizzie kept on laughing at Diana's humor that they stopped working a bit.

"Do you always talk this much?" Lizzie's laughter settles down.

"Not really, I don't really enjoy talking and I just enjoy company," Diana awkwardly smiled. "I don't get why people are talking about you being a short-tempered person since you seem a good and fun person to be around."

Lizzie's mouth faltered, "Well, it is true on they say about me." She paused as she looked at her, "But it didn't bother me as much before plus I intended to keep it that way as I'm proud being a future queen. I have my friends by my side anyways."

"Well, if it keeps you happy then it won't be a problem." Diana smiled and returned to her bag as she tried to get something but her notebook fell on the table, Lizzie was drawn to the sound, and saw the open notebook with amazing drawings. There were portraits of 5 different people, it was beautifully drawn.

"You drew that?" Lizzie asked in astonishment, Diana told her she drew but not this well as she looked at it

"Yeah..." Diana said hesitantly, and quickly grabbed it and shoved it in her bag, "It's kind of bad."

Lizzie looked at her and hooked her head, "No, I don't think so." She couldn't believe this girl was a gifted artist, yet seemed nervous about showing. "Really?" Diana asked her, seemingly having calmed down as she looked at her.

"The drawing was really nice, it isn't bad. It's..beautiful." Lizzie smiled at her. Diana felt her heart flutter and was shocked as she heard these compliments, she hadn't heard any good ones in a really long since a lot of people in the past criticized her work too harshly. Yet the girl who is feared in the school gave her a good rating.

"Uhm, thanks..." Diana mumbled as she looked away from her in embarrassment as she tried to calm her heart down. Lizzie felt amused at her shyness, "Now, then shall we get back to our work?"

Diana looked back at her and nodded. She seemed to calm down a bit but she still

After a while, the project was only halfway done but the sun was about to set. "I think we should end right here," Lizzie remarked. "I agree." Diana voiced as she fixed her things. Before Lizzie left and brought her bookbag with her, Diana spoke, "Lizzie do you want to be friends?" Lizzie looked at her in surprise with her sharp brows rosed, "Excuse me?"

Diana waved her hands in the air and being nervous now, "It's okay if you reject it, I just wanted to ask you."

Lizzie wasn't expecting her to ask her to be her friend and she froze for a few seconds standing, she was thinking if she should since though she only met her for today, they had some similar interests and hobbies. Finally, after a few moments of hesitation, she nodded and smiled. "I would love to." Diana felt relief and happy that she accepted her friendship

This might be the first Ever After that might understand her more than her Wonderlandian friends. Lizzie was now really interested in learning more about this archer girl and Diana's heart started to beat more around her.
