The light from the sun peered in gently from the window of which they forgot to close the curtains the night before, making Alex flinch as he blinked multiple times to get his eyes used to the gleam of day. He blinked a few times more, resorting to rubbing his eyes instead as he slowly became fully aware of his surroundings. Turning his head, he was met with the sight of his beloved, snoozing peacefully on his front with his cheek smushed into the pillow while his lips were slightly agape, a few strands of blonde hair that had grown out quite a bit in the past few months rested on his forehead, with his eyelashes resting on the top of his cheeks. Alex turned to face him fully, in awe of how peaceful his husband looked at times like these, where there was nobody around to judge, no phones around to take pictures and no vile grandparents around to make remarks. Instead, it was just them, inside the space that they created for themselves; a space that none of them would've predicted to have a few years ago.
Alex studied Henry's face, reaching his hand out and gently caressing his cheek as if it was something delicate. He traced his cheekbones and ran his fingertips lightly over his lips and the beauty mark right above them that he loved to kiss whenever he had the chance to. Henry was starting to stir a bit at this point, to which Alex resorted to cupping his cheek with his palm while caressing his face with his thumb. Henry's eyes fluttered open as he roused from his slumber, opening his eyes to his lover staring right back at him with a small smile on his face. Henry felt the slight coolness of Alex's wedding band on his face and he turned his face a little to place a kiss on Alex's palm, putting his hand on his waist to pull him closer to him as Alex nuzzled into the crook of his neck, placing a light kiss there.
No words were exchanged between the two lovers while they enjoyed each other's embrace. There was no rush to get up immediately, it was just them in the master bedroom of their brownstone, while their furry canine snoozed on his little bed near them. Henry closed his eyes once more, resting his head on Alex's as his hand found itself in his curls while the other one rested on his back.
Both of them knew that moments like these were rare now, hence none of them wanting to move. They laid there, almost drifting off to sleep again before they heard the inevitable whining from the baby monitor on Alex's side table, that would soon turn into a sharp cry if not attended to as quickly as possible. Taking a deep breath, they detached from each others embrace and Henry got up, leaving the warmth of their shared bed. He ushered Alex back down, letting him know that he'll handle it. Stealing a kiss, he got up and fixed the cuffs of his joggers, walking out of the room towards the slightly smaller room next to theirs while tying the belt of his robe.
He entered into said room, resulting into the whining quickly turning into a mix of happy babbles as their daughter stood in her crib, short chubby arms supporting her weight on the sides of the wooden piece of furniture she had spent the night in. Henry's face immediately lit up, going straight towards his little love who had raised her own arms up to make grabby hands at him, eager to be lifted up. He extended his arms to lift her into his embrace, touching his own nose to her tiny one as she scrunched her face up. Walking over to the changing table, he quickly got done with changing her, choosing to dress her up in a simple yellow coloured onesie.
Meanwhile, from the other room, Alex laid on his side watching two of the most important people in his life with awe through the baby monitor. He was smiling, subconsciously, and even when they both went out of view as Henry picked her up, he could hear the soft voice of her squeaks and giggles, along with Henry's as he talked to her throughout the change, ending it with what Alex assumed was a raspberry being blown into their daughters stomach.
Alex decided to make a quick trip to the kitchen as Henry got her ready for the day, he set up the coffee machine, put a cup of water to boil and worked on heating up the milk for their baby. Meanwhile, he reached into the cupboards to get her bottle and a couple of jaffa cakes for Henry to munch on before they'd come down for a proper breakfast. After about 15 minutes, Alex was done and had a tray in his hands carrying the said cakes, along with a warm bottle of milk, a cup of coffee, and a cup of Earl Grey tea. he carefully walked up the stairs carrying the tray full of goods, and heard the faint giggles of henry and their baby, along with a couple of David's barks here and there.
He walked into the room to find Henry sitting on the bed, with their daughter comfortably nestled in his lap, whose eyes lit up even more as she caught sight of Alex. He put the tray on the edge of their bed to avoid anything being knocked over, and went over to his little family. She reached out to Alex, stretching her little arms as far as she could before Henry let her go and try to crawl towards the other man. She had managed to drag herself only a few inches away as Alex caught her, raising her up in the air and bringing her down to plant kisses on her cheeks. The giggles then intensified as she babbled nonsense and Alex couldn't have been more in love.
it was Henry's turn to watch them now, he sat in the middle of their bed, with his lips upturned into a little smile and eyes full of admiration. Their previously silent bedroom now full of the voices of his beloveds, the same voices that he would look forward to hearing everyday. David had gotten up a while ago, taking over Alex's side of the bed due to it still being warm to which Henry softly nudged him to make space for Alex to sit down beside him. Once his husband was next to him, Henry scooted a little closer to all of them, wrapping one arm around Alex's back and the other coming forward to rest on his thigh. Alex looked up at him, both of them leaning in for a quick kiss at the same time.
Henry rested his face on his husbands shoulder, smiling down at his daughter; their daughter, as Alex did the same while she looked up at both of them as they had hung the moon. Henry lifted her up a bit to shift her to Alex's lap completely as he leaned forward to get her bottle before it turned cold. Scooting back again, he rested against the pillows while Alex followed, securely holding the now whining child as she glanced at the container of milk. Henry sat her on his thigh with her back resting on the side of his navel and held her bottle to her mouth with his hand while Alex laid down beside him, resting his head on Henry's other thigh. Henry's hand once again found its way into Alex's curls but this time it wasn't alone as their daughters hands also got lost in said curls. However, this time, her usually tight grip on his hair was relaxed, as she peacefully suckled on her bottle.
Mornings like these is how both of them wished to stay forever; relaxed, comfortable and together, even if it meant reheating their respective drinks to avoid moving out of their current positions.
