It Might Be Work

Summary:

"The presence of your mate could trigger stronger biological urges that the suppressants can't fully counteract." Came Ushijima's words again, rang in his head like a reminder.

Or, Tobio's rut hits him hard when Shoyo has a match. Tobio might, or might not, have a solution for that.

Work Text:

Tobio lowered his head as he gently massaged his temple. A deep frown was clearly visible on his forehead as he trying to stay calm.

"Fuck!" he quietly cursed under his breath.

"Coach just told you to go home and rest until your rut is finished, Kageyama," a familiar voice reached Tobio's ears shortly after. "It's not the end of the world."

Tobio grunted but didn't reply to Hirugami, his captain, the one who had spoken to him.

"For Kageyama, no volleyball for days is equal to the end of the world, Fukurou-san!" Hoshiumi chimed in with a grin, causing Tobio's infamous pouty face to appear immediately.

"I still ca—"

"You will go back to the dorm and rest," Hirugami stated firmly, leaving no room for Tobio to complain as he completely shut him down. "Debate me, and I will personally ask Coach to bench you the next time we have a match."

Tobio sighed desperately. He couldn't do anything when his captain pulled that ultimate card on him. All he could do was obediently nod while wiping the sweat from his forehead with a towel.

"Come on, Kageyama, it's just practice! We don't even have a match until the next two weeks," Hoshiumi tried to cheer him up after their captain leave. "You do need that rest, though, considering how red your face is right now," the beta continued, observing Tobio's face with genuine concern.

"Is it?" Tobio asked, earning an instant nod from the older. "I feel so weird, Hoshiumi-san. I already took a suppressant, but my head's killing me," he finally explained.

Tobio once again massaged his temple. This was the fourth day of his rut. His cycle normally lasted for five days, six to seven if it was bad. But the suppressant usually helped. It always worked wonders for him. This time, though, it was different.

His head felt so heavy and dizzy. He could still feel all the rut symptoms, even though they weren't as severe as when he didn't take any suppressant. But it was still bad, considering their coach ordered him to go home and rest until his rut was over.

"The suppressant you took is not going to work anymore." Came Ushijima, walking closer to them with a towel in his hand.

Both Tobio and Hoshiumi turned their heads to stare at Ushijima in unison. Tobio frowned and tilted his head slightly.

"Why, though?" Hoshiumi asked curiously.

Ushijima then sat right beside Tobio, handing the raven-head a bottle of water, which Tobio took gratefully.

"Didn't you say you and Hinata Shoyo have officially become mates?"

"We did," Tobio simply nodded. He took a moment to drink the water before continuing, "But we're not bonded, not yet."

Ushijima nodded, "It's still the same," he stated, "Even though you're not bonded with him, your alpha knows that you have a mate now. It makes your body naturally react differently to the suppressant," the alpha added. "The presence of your mate could trigger stronger biological urges that the suppressants can't fully counteract," he continued to explain.

Tobio blinked several times as he processed Ushijima's explanation. It made sense, though. That was most likely why he still felt all the symptoms even though he had taken the suppressant since his pre-rut started.

"Does that mean the suppressant won't work on him anymore?" Hoshiumi asked again, seeming more curious than Tobio himself.

"He is going to need a higher dose," Ushijima answered simply. "But a higher dose of suppressant contains a bunch of side effects that won't do any good for alphas either," the olive-haired continued. "I'm sure Coach won't allow you to consume it unless it's urgent." He exclaimed as he fully stared at Tobio.

While Hoshiumi let out a soft "Ohh," Tobio, on the other hand, tried to process the new information he got into his brain.

"Then," Tobio finally spoke after a moment of silence, "What should I do now?"

"Rest." Said Ushijima and Hoshiumi in unison, successfully making Tobio pout again.

Tobio ended up lying on his bed an hour later. He had no choice but to take some days off since he couldn’t even concentrate on the court. With his face buried in his pillow, he let out a frustrated groan.

He spent several minutes like that, trying his best to rest, but his body temperature and slight headache he felt made it hard for him to sleep. After a while, he gave up and stood up, ruffling his hair.

"This sucks," he muttered, feeling completely annoyed.

Tobio then walked to his bathroom and frowned at his reflection in the mirror, noting how disheveled he looked.

"No wonder Coach told me to rest," he mumbled. "I look like shit." He shuddered before splashing water from the sink onto his face.

Gripping the sink, he tried to catch his breath right after that.

Should I take another one? he wondered, staring at the sleek bottle of suppressant.

Then, he shook his head frantically. Although his rut was hitting him hard, he couldn't risk taking another pill without a doctor’s order as it might cause him harm.

Tobio sighed deeply, staring at the sink for quite some time. Until he smiled a little, upon noticing the difference of his sink from months ago.

His once-empty sink was now filled with Shoyo's skincare products. From face care to body care, Shoyo had it all. Tobio's smile grew even wider when he saw an extra toothbrush next to his own. Ever since Tobio and Shoyo started dating a couple of months ago, they agreed to take turns spending their days off together in each other's apartments. And now, there were many traces of Shoyo in his apartment as a result of their agreement.

Tobio loved it. He loved seeing the silly cat slippers next to his own bunny slippers (that Shoyo obviously bought for them to use) at the genkan. He loved seeing the extra utensils in the cabinet, he loved seeing Shoyo's skincare products lined up on the bathroom sink, he loved sharing his wardrobe because there were now a bunch of Shoyo's clothes in it.

He loved feeling close to his boyfriend even when Shoyo wasn't around.

Tobio swore he loved it, considering he had courted the omega for almost a year without Shoyo even knowing. Even though he did say he enjoyed it, in some other times, Tobio had to admit that he also suffered in Shoyo's obliviousness too.

Shoyo had always been loved by many, even since their high school days when they were unknown to the world. And now he was an athlete who played for the Olympics, everyone was aware that there is this beautiful and amazing omega who could proved the world wrong by excelling in a sport dominated by alphas.

Was Tobio proud of his boyfriend? Absolutely. He was proud. There is no in between. Tobio had a lot of faith in Shoyo ever since they played against each other in middle school. Tobio knew Shoyo would make it and never doubted him for a second.

The problem was, a lot of alphas were also proud of the redhead. They seemed fascinated by how amazing Shoyo was. If that were the only case, it would be fine. But no, they didn't stop there. They tried to get close to the redhead, and Shoyo, being as oblivious as he was, always remained friendly with everyone. Even though Tobio made it clear to everyone that he was courting the redhead, some alphas didn't care as long as Shoyo hadn't been claimed. It didn't matter to them when Tobio attended Shoyo's matches and scented the omega so the redhead would be drenched in his scent. It didn't matter when the match ended and the first thing Shoyo did was running to him to share the win with him. It didn't matter when Tobio sent a death glare in their direction while hugging the redhead tightly. It really didn't matter as long as Shoyo wasn't carrying Tobio's mark.

Tobio couldn’t fully blame them, though. Shoyo was an attractive omega—beautiful, athletic, and admirable. Anyone would be lucky to be with him.

But do take a note that it wasn’t just anyone. It was Tobio who got lucky because Shoyo was now his omega. His and his only.

Heh, my omega, Tobio thought giddily, grinning like a goddamn fool.

Shortly after, Tobio grimaced as he felt his head start to spin. He brought his hand to his forehead, and gently massaging his temple again.

Thinking about his omega in this state clearly made everything worse, it seem.

"The presence of your mate could trigger stronger biological urges that the suppressants can't fully counteract." Came Ushijima's words again, rang in his head like a reminder.

Tobio dried his face with a towel roughly.

His presence triggered me, huh? He frowned for a moment. If his presence triggered me, could it also put me at ease?

An idea suddenly flooded his mind. Tobio swiftly left the bathroom and walked quickly to his wardrobe.

"It might be work." He whispered to himself as he opened Shoyo's drawer.

Tobio took a deep breath before taking one of Shoyo's shirts. Feeling a bit guilty as he brought it closer to his face to searching for his boyfriend's scent.

But then, a deep groan of annoyance escaped his mouth when he realized Shoyo's scent had faded. Tobio took another of his boyfriend's shirts, trying to find the sweet, mouthwatering scent of orange on it, but to no avail.

He realized that all of Shoyo's shirts now smelled exactly like him and his fabric softener.

"Fuck!" he hissed frustratingly.

Now that his mind was full of his boyfriend, Tobio could feel his inner alpha becoming restless. He could feel his alpha yearning for his omega, making him feel uneasy, especially since he couldn't see his boyfriend because Shoyo had a match in Osaka.

The raven-head pulled out his phone, opening the chat app and scrolling to Shoyo's messages.

🍊🧡:
Drink enough water and stay hydrated!!!!
🍊🧡:
If ur headache gets bad, u shld talk to ur coach >:[
🍊🧡:
Gtg, ttyl Yama! Mwaa <3

Those messages were sent five hours ago. There had been no sign of Shoyo since then. The redhead was probably having fun in an intense match, while Tobio was suffering alone in his apartment.

Tobio let out a soft smile as he scrolled through their chat history. Rereading their silly conversations helped him relax a little. But it was only lasted for a couple minutes since he could still feel his alpha jittering inside him.

"Ah shit," he muttered quietly. "I do need him, apparently." Tobio ruffled his hair desperately before typing on his phone.

Me:
Need something at your apt.
Me:
It's urgent, sorry.

Shoyo surely can't help him since he has a match to focus on. But that doesn't mean Tobio can't help himself.

So he let his intrusive thoughts won and quickly switched apps to book the fastest train to Osaka. Lucky for him, there was a train departing in an hour.

After purchasing the ticket, Tobio pulled out a sweater from his wardrobe and put it on. He also teared a new scent patch to cover his scent gland and put on a mask to cover his face.

Tobio swiftly grabbed his other essentials, stuffing them roughly into a small backpack. His heart pounded in his chest, a mix of frustration and longing fueling his every movement. He couldn't believe he was doing this, but the ache in his head and the relentless pull of his rut left him no choice. He needed Shoyo. He needed his omega.

As Tobio rushed out of his apartment, the city lights flickered in the evening haze. He made his way to the train station through bus, the cool breeze from the bus air conditioning doing little to ease the heat coursing through his body. The journey felt like an eternity, every minute stretching painfully as he thought about Shoyo, Shoyo, and only Shoyo.

When Tobio arrived at the train station, he quickly stepping onto his train and finding the seat he had booked earlier. Once settled, he leaned back and closed his eyes.

Despite his restlessness, Tobio eventually managed to drift into a light sleep, offering a brief respite from his discomfort.

When the train pulled into the station, Tobio wasted no time making his way to Shoyo's apartment. Luckily, the traffic wasn't as bad as the usual so it doesn't took him long to Shoyo's apartment.

The familiar path brought a sense of comfort, even though his body still ached and his head pounded. He fumbled with the keys, eagerly unlocking the door and stepping inside.

The apartment was quiet, save for the faint hum of the refrigerator. Shoyo wasn't there, of course he wasn't, he was still in the middle of his match. Even though Tobio already knew about this, he still couldn't help but to sighed, letting a wave of disappointment wash over him.

He then dropped his backpack by the door and made his way to the living room, collapsing onto the couch.

Not wanting to repeat the same mistake as his boyfriend, Tobio quickly pulled his phone out of his pocket and sent Hoshiumi a quick message about his whereabouts. After making sure the message was safely delivered to the latter, he shut down his phone so no one could bother him.

He could still feel the remnants of Shoyo's presence in the apartment. The lingering scent of Shoyo's favorite parfume, the scattered notes and volleyball magazines that lay right on the table. Tobio let out a deep sigh, closing his eyes and trying to find solace in the familiarity of his boyfriend.

For a few minutes, being surrounded by his omega's things was enough to put Tobio at ease. But his inner alpha grew restless and greedy, after a while, it wasn't enough. He needed more of his omega, he had to have more.

So Tobio has no other choice than stood up and dragged himself to Shoyo's bedroom.

"I'm really sorry for intruding on your privacy, Shou." he whispered to the empty room before stepping inside.

The moment he entered, Tobio was greeted by his boyfriend's sweet scent. It was so comforting that he closed his eyes and sighed contentedly. Even his inner alpha seemed to howl with happiness.

When Tobio opened his eyes and scanned the room, it looked much the same as when he had visited Shoyo's apartment a couple of weeks ago.

That was until his gaze landed on a pile of clothes neatly arranged in the middle of the bed. His breath hitched as he recognized most of them as his. His shirts, his sweaters, a spare of his jersey, and even his shorts.

So this is his nest.

Seeing the nest filled Tobio with an overwhelming sense of joy and pride. A nest was an omega's safe-haven, a place of ultimate comfort and security. Sure, they were dating each other, but Tobio read somewhere that dating doesn't necessarily mean an omega would feel safe having another's scent around their nest. The fact that Shoyo had chosen to use his belongings to create this space meant that Shoyo felt safe and comfortable with him.

And Tobio, too, had never seen Shoyo's nest before. Even months after they got together. Shoyo was always kind of shy about it, not wanting to reveal this deeply personal part of himself. Yet here it was, right in front of him, and it was filled with his things. So what could make Tobio happier than this? Besides volleyball, nothing.

Tobio smiled, feeling a warm, tender emotion fill his chest. He gently picked up one of his shirts from the nest and held it close to his face, inhaling the faint mix of his own scent and Shoyo's sweet fragrance. It was comforting, grounding him in a way nothing else could.

However, a pang of guilt soon followed. He felt like he was intruding on something private and sacred. Shoyo hadn't given him permission to see his nest, and Tobio worried about how his boyfriend might feel about this unintentional invasion of privacy. He made a note to himself to beg for Shoyo's forgiveness later if it was necessary.

Because right now, there was something important that he needed to do.

Tobio then carefully put the shirt back where it belonged, not wanting to disturb the meticulously constructed nest that his omega had built.

After taking a deep breath, Tobio quietly sifted through Shoyo's closet, searching for his omega's shirts. Each one he pulled out carried a faint trace of Shoyo's comforting scent, a blend of warmth and familiarity that eased the tension in Tobio's muscles and the throbbing in his head. His alpha responded to the scent, calming down as if acknowledging the presence of its mate.

It is working. He smiled to himself. Maybe it might be work too.

With a handful of Shoyo's shirts in his arms, Tobio moved to a corner of the room and carefully laid them out on the floor. He tried to arrange them neatly to make a comfortable nest for himself.

As his head started to spin again, Tobio took a glance at the nest he had just made and compared it to his boyfriend's nest.

Not enough, he grumbled internally, furrowing his eyebrows, clearly not satisfied with the result.

Determined, Tobio grabbed another pile of Shoyo's shirts and some plushies from the nightstand. He carefully added those things to his nest.

He then smiled at his creation. It wasn't a traditional nest, but the intention was clear—a makeshift attempt to surround himself with Shoyo's essence, to find the same comfort and security that Shoyo found in his own nest.

Who cares if science says nests are only for omegas? Alphas, too, need the comfort of their omega. And in this case, Tobio clearly needed it.

Satisfied that the nest was finally comfortable enough, Tobio quickly settled himself in it. He took a deep breath and sighed contentedly as the sweet scent of Shoyo, his omega, filled his senses.

The familiar, comforting smell seemed to wrap around him like a warm blanket, soothing the throbbing in his head and the ache in his muscles.

He nestled deeper into the pile of shirts and plushies, feeling the tension slowly melt away from his body. Every inhale brought more of Shoyo's calming scent, and with each breath, his alpha settled down further. The dizziness that had plagued him eased, replaced by a gentle, drowsy warmth.

For the first time in days, Tobio felt truly at peace. His eyes fluttered shut, and he allowed himself to relax completely, knowing he was surrounded by the essence of the one person who could always make everything better. His breathing slowed, matching the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, and before he knew it, he had drifted off into a deep, restful sleep.

"...yeah, he's sleeping... don't worry, I'm going to take care of him, Hoshiumi-san... 'kay, I'll keep you guys updated."

A soft voice and a gentle rub on his hair pulled Tobio back from his dream. When he opened his eyes to find his boyfriend smiling sweetly at him, Tobio was convinced he was still dreaming because,

"I'm seeing an angel."

But then, a soft giggle greeted his ears. "Are you dying? Am I an angel now, Bakageyama?"

Tobio frowned, trying to process what had happened. When he finally regained full consciousness, he snapped and quickly sat up.

"Shoyo?" he asked hesitantly. "You're back? What time is it?"

"I'm home!" the redhead smiled. He then leaned closer and placed a soft peck on Tobio's forehead. "Almost 11. Did you sleep well?" Shoyo continued, carefully glancing at the nest Tobio made.

Tobio, on the other hand, flushed upon realizing it. He rubbed the back of his neck while nodding. "Yeah, I did," he admitted, his voice hoarse. "I'm sorry I—"

"Used my clothes for nesting?" Shoyo cut him off with a grin.

Tobio, once again, blushed but had no choice but to admit it. So, he nodded again.

Apparently, the little gesture from him successfully made Shoyo laugh. "You're so cute!" he exclaimed while pulling Tobio into a tight hug. "I didn't know alphas did nest too."

"We don't," Tobio sighed, burying his face in the crook of Shoyo's neck as he inhaled Shoyo's scent right from his scent gland. "But I did. I need to do it. I need you, Shou." He grunted, it almost sound like a goddamn whine in his own ears.

"Was it really bad?" Shoyo asked as he gently rubbed Tobio's head.

Tobio quickly nodded, tightening their hug without saying anything in return.

"Didn't you have my clothes too back in Tokyo? And why would you even nest on the floor? My floor's cold at night, Tobio!" Shoyo pulled back and let go of their hug to see Tobio's face, only to find him deeply pouting because he couldn't have the warmth of the redhead anymore.

"They don't smell like you anymore," Tobio said shortly, pulling Shoyo into his lap so he could hug him more comfortably, "...and I didn't want to disturb your nest," he whispered quietly, feeling a bit shy to admit it.

"Bakageyama!" Shoyo barked, but Tobio was sure Shoyo was smiling, considering he unconsciously released his sweet pheromone upon hearing Tobio's words. "I would rather have you disturb my nest so you can build your own comfortably on the bed."

"The floor's comfortable too," Tobio argued.

"But it was hard, wasn't it? Bet your back is hurting now," Shoyo replied with a gentle massage on Tobio's back.

"...It wasn't that bad." It was a lie, of course it was, his back was indeed hurt and Shoyo clearly knew thay since he earned a soft laugh from his omega soon after.

"Sillyama," Shoyo replied while peppering kisses all over Tobio's face. Tobio couldn't help but smiled as he closed his eyes, completely enjoying the affection his mate gave him.

After a while of being pampered with kisses, Tobio could feel Shoyo patting his head. "I bought curry earlier. You haven't eaten anything, have you?"

Tobio nodded but tightened their hug, signaling the smaller that he didn't want to move, even for an inch.

"Tobio..." Shoyo gave him a warning. "You should eat."

"Don't wanna." He shook his head childishly.

"I promised your teammates that I'm going to take care of you. Aren't you hungry?"

"I am," Tobio replied, "but I want to be with you longer," he stubbornly added.

"I will be right beside you when you eat," the redhead patiently said. "You can even hold my hand!" he persuaded.

The offer clearly piqued Tobio's interest, he just need a little push and Shoyo clearly knew that. "Come on, Yama. Be a good alpha for me and eat, yeah?"

And that was all it took for Tobio to nod obediently.

Shoyo, on the other hand, smiled widely, giving Tobio a peck on his lips as a reward before finally standing up. The redhead then extended his hand to Tobio so the alpha could hold it.

Tobio happily took it. He held the omega's hand before standing up and walking side by side towards the kitchen.

"I won't let go," Tobio sternly stated just as Shoyo was about to open his mouth.

So the redhead sighed in return. While still holding Tobio's hand, Shoyo carefully prepared a plate of curry for the alpha. Although it was quite troublesome because he could only use one hand, the omega didn't voice any complaint. Instead, Shoyo hummed happily as he placed a plate of pork curry with a soft-boiled egg on top of it.

"There you go!" Shoyo said happily, leading Tobio to sit on the kitchen counter. "Eat well, Tobio!"

Tobio nodded, smiling slightly upon hearing that. Soon after, the raven-head started to munch on his food under Shoyo's watch.

And they stayed like that for the next few minutes. Tobio was busy eating his food while Shoyo stared at him with a soft, loving gaze.

"Was it good?" Shoyo finally asked while shoving a glass of water in front of Tobio.

The raven-head nodded again. "It was," he answered simply as he drank the water. "Thank you for the food, it was delicious," he finally replied properly right after finishing everything, earning a laugh from Shoyo.

"Can you let go of my hand now?" Shoyo asked softly.

Tobio frowned, pouting slightly, but he let go of Shoyo's hand anyway. As a reward, Shoyo gave him another peck on the cheek.

"I'm going to clean this first, and then we can go back to bed."

Tobio nodded to his boyfriend's words, locking his eyes on Shoyo who was now washing the dishes. There was a moment of comfortable silence between them before Tobio finally broke it.

"Shou," Tobio called, earning a soft hum from the redhead in return, "..I'm sorry."

The soft mumble quickly caught Shoyo's attention as he swiftly turned to look directly at the alpha. "What for?" he asked, confused.

Tobio took a deep breath before looking up to meet Shoyo's gaze. "For coming uninvitedly," he said, "And for looking through your nest without your permission."

There was a moment of silence before Shoyo finally cracked up and laughed.

Tobio frowned but didn't say anything. Instead, he waited for his boyfriend to finish laughing and say something, which Shoyo did, in the next second,

"Sorry, sorry," Shoyo apologized while putting the clean plate in the cabinet. "Why would you apologize for that, though?" he said, walking closer to Tobio again.

"You're not mad?"

"No, silly! Why would I be mad?"

This time, Tobio's frown deepened. "But I thought... you're not comfortable enough for letting me see your nest.."

Shoyo blinked upon hearing Tobio's answer. He then quickly grabbed Tobio's hands and held them gently.

"Tobio, I promise you, that wasn't the case," Shoyo reassured. "I wasn't uncomfortable, not at all! I was just... how do I put this?" the redhead frowned, trying to find the right words. "I was just nervous, I think? I didn't want to disappoint you with my nest, so I was being... a bit cautious, I guess."

"Why would I feel disappointed?" Tobio asked, his tone a bit irritated. "Your nest is beautiful, Shou. It was perfect."

Shoyo, on the other hand, blushed at Tobio's words. "You think so?" he asked, smiling shyly.

Adorable, Tobio thought.

"Yeah," The raven-head brought Shoyo's hands closer to his face before gently pecking them one by one. "The most beautiful nest I've ever seen." He declared.

Shoyo giggled happily, unconsciously releasing a thick amount of pheromones that made Tobio sigh contentedly.

"Let's go," Shoyo said after that. "I'll help you rebuild your nest. On my bed."

So then, Tobio and Shoyo headed back to the bedroom, hand in hand. The alpha felt a warmth spreading through him at the thought of creating a nest together with his omega. Once they reached the bedroom, Shoyo led Tobio to the bed and smiled reassuringly.

"Alright, let's do this," Shoyo said, giving Tobio's hand a squeeze before finally letting go. Tobio only nodded and waited for Shoyo as the redhead carefully removing the pile of Tobio's shirt on the bed, descontructing his own nest.

"First, we need to gather all the shirts and pillows. It has to be cozy." Shoyo instructed after having his bed clean from his nest, "Go get those." He said as he pointing at the pile of his shirts that Tobio used earlier.

Tobio nodded, quickly moving to retrieve the pile of Shoyo's shirts he had used earlier. Shoyo, meanwhile, grabbed pillows from around the room, humming softly as he worked. They piled everything on the bed, and Shoyo began arranging the items with practiced ease.

"This is where you've got it wrong, Tobio," Shoyo exclaimed, "We should always start with the pillows," Shoyo instructed, patting the spot beside him for Tobio to join. "They form the base and give the nest its shape."

Tobio followed Shoyo's lead, placing the pillows around the edge of the bed to create a snug, enclosed space. He watched as Shoyo adjusted each one, his movements confident and precise. The alpha couldn't help but admire the way Shoyo's hands moved, so sure and steady.

"Next, we layer the shirts," Shoyo continued, handing Tobio a couple of his shirts. "Make sure they're spread out evenly, so the nest is soft and comfortable."

Tobio took the shirts and carefully laid them out, mimicking Shoyo's actions. He felt a sense of accomplishment as the nest started to take shape, a blend of both their scents mingling in the air. Shoyo smiled approvingly, his eyes shining with affection.

"You're doing great, Alpha," Shoyo praised, his voice warm. "Now, let's add a few personal touches."

Tobio watched as Shoyo retrieved a few plushies from the floor and tucked them into the nest. He then handed one to Tobio, a small crow plushie that Tobio had won for him at a fair. One that happened to be Shoyo's favorite.

"Here, this belongs in our nest," Shoyo said, placing the plushie in Tobio's hands.

Tobio nodded, gently setting the plushie down among the pillows and shirts. He felt a surge of pride and happiness at seeing their combined efforts come together so beautifully.

As they finished, Shoyo took a step back to admire their work. "It looks perfect," he declared, beaming at Tobio.

"It really does," Tobio agreed, his heart swelling with affection. "Thanks, Shou."

"Anything for you," Shoyo leaned in and kissed Tobio softly on the lips, "But count it as my win, yeah?"

Tobio laughed but he didn't replied, They both climbed into the nest, settling down side by side. Tobio wrapped an arm around Shoyo, pulling him close. The omega snuggled into his embrace, their nest providing a comforting cocoon around them.

"How are you feeling now?" Shoyo asked, looking up at Tobio with a look of concern on his face.

Tobio took a deep breath, inhaling Shoyo's comforting scent. "Better." He admitted, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Shoyo relaxed a little, but curiosity clearly sparked in his eyes. "Where did this nesting idea come from, anyway?" he asked, snuggling closer to Tobio.

Tobio sighed, thinking back to his conversation with Ushijima. "Ushijima-san told me that the suppressants might not be working as effectively on me anymore since I have you now," he explained. "He said the presence of a mate could trigger stronger biological urges that the suppressants can't fully counteract."

Shoyo listened intently, his fingers tracing soothing patterns on Tobio's arm. "So you thought being around me would help?"

Tobio nodded. "Exactly. I thought being close to you, being surrounded by your scent, might put me at ease. And it did," he said, his voice softening. "It was the only thing that made sense to me."

Shoyo smiled, his heart swelling with affection for his alpha. "I'm glad it worked," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to Tobio's cheek.

"Yeah," Tobio agreed, voice tender with so much affection as he pulled Shoyo close to his chest so he can hold his boyfriend dearly, "I'm glad it worked too."
