Work Text:

Chester was waiting for her queen to come back. He missed her. He missed her touch. He even missed her anger.

She was out for some business, he hoped it wouldn't take long. She left after breakfast, and it was almost night time now.

Chester opened the door to her room slowly. Her room was empty and quiet, he didn't like it. Not at all.

He took some shy steps on her room. Two of her walls had very large windows, almost covering the entire wall. One of the windowed walls had a glass door to her large and sunny balcony, the pinky light of the setting sun was shinning bright through the windows.

He must've accepted, the Candy Castle was empty and meaningless without her. They had a lot of arguments over Chester's annoying pranks and Mandy's always tense attitude, didn't they? But they've learned how to get along.

It started by respecting the boundaries.

Chester didn't make pranks that annoyed Mandy, he knew that he had to make his jokes more 'laughable' for the both of them. He gave Mandy some private space and privacy next, he knew when he could make a joke and when it wasn't the time.

Her room had a pinkish color palette, expected from her. It was nice with Chester's own pink hair.

Then there was that queen-sized bed. Made of wenge wood, had purple bed sheets. It was tied up nicely. Chester moved closer to her bed. Dang it, he missed her badly.

The next step was by Mandy, she did her best to remain calm. If she'd learnt how to laugh at silly pranks and have fun, they wouldn't have to fight over every little thing.

And with saving more time by not arguing, they could focus on their own stuff. Mandy would have more time for watching her favorite series (these would be My Little Pony, Rainbow Ruby and Miraculous, Chester sometimes doubted Mandy's mental like he's normal). And Chester would improve his skills more (he was good at playing chess. It took Mandy some time to figure it out, chess + jester = chester).

The jester sat down at Mandy's bed and laid on his back. He spread his arms wide and sighed. He wished she was here now. He got used to her a lot.

He was facing the candy themed roof of her bed. The glowing moon and the star decorations were candy-colored. She loved sweets.

She was sugary sweet, Chester admitted.

It started one by one.

Chester had made an, unexpectedly, kind request for a dinner. Only the two of them, they didn't have a third person to invite anyway.

The dinner was actually pretty good. Mandy enjoyed Chester's company. And Chester was glad to know that Mandy could be a sweet person when she wanted to be.

The next day, Mandy took a step next. She thanked for the dinner and asked Chester if he wanted to spend the day by keeping her company. Mandy had to check the production progression of the chocolates, candies and all the other desserts and sweets.

Chester accepted, and they spent hours chatting while eating any kind of sweet they wanted. They get to know each other more this way. And they also verbally bullied some of the candy workers, it was fun, they couldn't deny.

Days past by. They didn't have problems at all. Chester's jokes were on a fun level, and Mandy didn't yell everytime. Chester taught Mandy how to play chess, and Mandy showed Chester some tips about flying Kites. She loved kites.

Chester closed his eyes. The glow of the setting sun was starting to disappear slowly, leaving room for the star decorations above Chester to shine.

Chester admitted eventually. He loved her.

Just when he started dreaming about her, he heard the doorknob's sound. She'd arrived, finally.

He immediately opened his eyes and jumped off from the bed. He saw her face finally, after hours.

She'd tilted her head through the doorway. She had a confused look on her face, clearly wasn't expecting Chester in her room out of all places.

Mandy fully opened the door and stepped inside. She was holding her Candy Queen Stick in one of her hands.

The jester was smiling softly and warmly at her. Mandy smiled back, glad that she was missed. His hair was slightly messy, probably because he was laying down on her bed, and she had some questions about it.

"Chester, what are you—!" She was interrupted by the jester suddenly running towards her and wrapping his arms around her back. He pulled Mandy close to himself like he didn't want her to go. He rested his chin on Mandy's head.

"Do you have any idea how much I missed you, my queen?" Chester said, sounding kinda tripping.

Mandy was taken aback by the sudden hug, but she returned the gesture after the shock. They both were glad to have each other, eventhough how much they said the contrary a while ago.

"I didn't know that it would take this long, and my phone's charge—" She was interrupted for the second time, by feeling a finger touch her lips. No, she definitely wasn't feeling like her cheeks were burning.

They pulled apart and looked into each other's glowing eyes in the soft light of the setting sun.

Chester withdrew his index finger from Mandy's lips, and instead, he softly brushed her cheek with his thumb.

Mandy's hand found it's way on the back of Chester's neck, and Chester's one hand was on her waist now.

It was their first time being this close each other, but they liked the feeling of the warm breath of each other.

With Chester being slightly taller, Mandy raised her feet to reach him. Chester was looking down, he knew what was coming.

And finally, their lips touched. It was warm. It was definitely one of the best feeling they both had ever felt.

Their eyes were closed, not only to deeply feel, but also to forget the reality for a minute. They chose to melt in the kiss. For the first time that day, they both could focus on the moment and live it.

It lasted a minute, but only felt like seconds. They broke the kiss finally. There was a lot to say, but their eyes said it all.

"I.. I didn't know that you felt the same way.." Mandy said quietly, with a soft tone. She was smiling uncontrollably.

"Niether did I...until a few minutes ago.." Small laughs were escaping from Chester's mouth, he couldn't help it.

Mandy hugged Chester tightly and buried her face on Chester's neck. She was happy, and she never ever wanted this moment to end.

Chester thought about kissing her head, but he didn't want to go too far from the first day. Mandy was a tense girl, he wouldn't want to put too much treasure on her. And this way, the kisses wouldn't grow old too quickly, every bit of their moment would worth golds.

Mandy removed one of her arms from Chester's back and looked for something on her pocket In seconds, she got a little chocolate bar, and when they were fully pulled away, she gave it to Chester.

It had top three of Chester's favorite flavors in a teal-colored package. The pack had bright pink highlights. Chester looked back at Mandy, his face lit up now. He wasn't the only one who thought about their love today, apparently.

"I requested it specially for you, did you like it?" Mandy asked in the sweetest tone Chester has ever heard.

"I love it," he answered, it was probably the best day he'd ever had.

Mandy smiled at his response before adding. "What were you doing in my room, or rather, in my bed tho?" She had a suspicious expression.

Chester made a silly, but also an awkward smile. "Maybe I missed my favorite, and practically, the only queen?"

"Fair enough." Mandy said after a small giggle. "Have you eaten something yet?"

Chester thought for a few seconds, and just now realized that he, in fact, was hungry. "No, I haven't. I was too busy missing you." He didn't miss the opportunity as he answered with a rizz face.

It made Mandy genuinely laugh. She looked down like she was kind of embarrassed. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek, making him smile. "Should we cook something, or you say we should just order?"

"Nah, let's cook, I've got this!" He said confidently. He extended his arm, and Mandy held it with her own.

"Ah, yes, we're fine as long as you don't replace the salt with sugar.."

Mandy merely got a wink as an answer, but she was fine with it. They left the room and took down the stairs on their way to kitchen.

Notes:

Have some (kinda reformed ig?) Manchester.

This was a royalty AU where Mandy is the Candy Queen, and Chester is her personal jester.

My headcannons for this one-shot:

• Chester is good at playing chess and other strategy games, it made sense to me for some reason.

• Mandy likes kites and cartoons (My Little Pony, Rainbow Ruby, Strawberry Shortcake, Miraculous, Chloe's Closet and stuff like that)
