Work Text:

Kaiser had grown to be a constant in Ness’s life ever since they were officially accepted into Bastard München.

Since they were welcomed to the team through the same tryout match, they had ended up being positioned to live in the same room as well. And that was when Ness first had a taste of Kaiser’s.. more particular morning habits. Long story short, it was practically chaos.

For the first morning the two had shared a room, Kaiser had failed to wake up on time. So, Ness, who felt bad for just leaving him there, ended up utilizing his strength to somewhat forcefully pull the blonde out of the bed, before dragging him to wash up. Though, in the end, it caused them to arrive late to training grounds that day.

And ever since then, Ness had silently learnt to compromise by personally waking this new companion of his up for them both to make it in time for training.

As time passed and they had earned just enough, Kaiser firmly decided to move out. To no one’s surprise, Ness accepted his invitation to move out together. Under the conditions to continue participating in their football activities as per, the two successfully received an ok sign to rent and live in an apartment nearby. It was a simple unit really, only consisting of a living area, a kitchen area, and two rooms.

What most of their teammates did not know though, was that the two still ended up sharing a room.

Ness had originally planned for them to have one room each, but Kaiser rejected the proposal, claiming that it was better to keep a room unoccupied for any possible future needs. He reasoned that since they were fine sleeping in the same place before, they would be too in their new environment. To which, Ness thought nothing more of and agreed to.

Still twin beds in the room, but this time, the room was more spacious, the beds felt so much cozier, and they could finally put up any decorations as they saw fit. Though, it was mostly Ness who chose to indulge in this privilege; letting the amount of magic related books and items grow larger every other passing day.

Kaiser, on the other hand, only brought back a few necessary items, which eventually ended up being surrounded by Ness’s ones. The blonde had no particular feedback on the other’s growing collection, leaving Ness to his devices as he felt no need to interfere with his interest. After all, building trust was an important step of his plan to erode the other’s heart too.

Ness would say from his observation that Kaiser had gotten better at taking care of himself as time passed. Yet, he could not disagree that he might have pampered the blonde a little on certain things. For example, their mornings, where the tradition of Ness having to personally wake Kaiser up carried on.

The magenta haired man personally uttered no words of complaint at the situation, for part of him was even glad to be of help after witnessing the other’s somewhat concerning self care ability. Alexis Ness would never admit this even if it meant he would lose his ability of speech, but he might have grown an adoration for how Kaiser acts when he just woke up. With his untamed blonde hair and his temporarily thoughtless eyes, the man truly resembled the look of a cat.

So every morning, Ness wakes up to the sound of their alarms. Yes, alarms; one being Ness’s very own, and the other being Kaiser’s. Even though said alarms never really held any effect towards the blonde as he would ignore it to continue melting into his warm and soft bed, Kaiser, for whatever reason, still kept the habit to carry on setting them.

Ness’s hand would find his eye after that, rubbing it to fight against the morning sleepiness. He must not immediately fall back into the tempting trap of a slumber, or both him and Kaiser will inevitably run late for their morning training. So with a soft groan, the man proceeded with dragging himself to the toilet to brush and wash his face.

The magenta haired man used to try and remain as quiet as possible in moments like these, but he had soon found out that his noises in the morning particularly did not seem to affect the other. So at some point, Ness just does as he pleases, not caring too much about the force he applies on opening a singular door, or how loud the running water was.

Little did he know that the blonde had never fallen back asleep after the alarm’s loud assault. He had consciously chosen to stay awake; enjoying the warmth of the bed for just a little longer as he picked up the accustomed to noises around him. There was no way the alarm did not successfully wake him up, for he had been a light sleeper since young.

Finishing his little morning bathroom routine, Ness then traced his footsteps to the kitchen. It was time to start preparing breakfast before waking the other man up.

The meal was usually nothing fancy for them, sometimes it was simple oatmeal, other times it was Bauernomelett, but never something that took deliberately long to make. For the particular day though, it was avocado toast with a sprinkle of chia seeds. As for drinks, ness poured himself a cup of milk, while Kaiser was served a cup of orange juice as per the man’s distaste for white colored drinks.

Having settled the meal with his iconic smile at his lips, Ness then traveled back to the bedroom. It was finally time to wake Kaiser up.

”Kaiser..”
Ness prodded at the man, waiting for his response.

And after a wait totaling to five seconds, he received… none. So he tried again. This time, louder, and putting in more force.

”Kaiser!”
Ness had his palm placed on the other’s shoulder, light shaking him. Yet, the action still gained no response.

So Ness had to resort to pulling the blankets off the blonde, before moving in to place both of his arms on Kaiser's shoulder. And this time, he shakes hard.

“You need to wake up now Kaiser, or we’re going to be late again!”

It takes only an annoyed, muffled groan for Ness to know that his so-called “morning Kaiser awakening mission” was once again a great success.

Upon successfully dragging the man out of his bedsheets, Ness retreated from the room to enjoy his breakfast first. The other did not particularly enjoy gazes when he performed his recently acquired morning routine to the mirror, and neither did Ness want to interrupt said morning routine daily; he had already got the gist of it after a few accident witnesses and interruptions after all.

Sitting at the table, Ness munched on the piece of avocado toast as he leisurely scrolled through his phone, patiently waiting for a fully changed blonde to walk out with his usual untidied hair. Much like the other, the magenta haired man was not one addicted to his device, merely checking it in case something emergency happened and he was contacted.

Just as Ness downed the last droplet of milk along with the last bite of toast, Kaiser made his appearance, expressionless as he walked straight to sit down at the table.

One look, and Ness had to hold himself back from chuckling, for he witnessed the blonde having a stare down with his toast. With his incredible morning hair and harsh gaze, Kaiser truly resembled a grumpy lion that badly needed a comb. So a comb is what Ness grabbed to assist Kaiser with his atrocious bed hair, all while the man took his time to take bites out of the poor toast.

Neither noticed the hint of unlooked for gentleness in each other’s eyes as one fought to detangle the long, blonde hair, while the other wordlessly ate his fill. Even though both held quite the different thoughts, the silence was surprisingly comfortable to both parties in times like these.

By the time Ness had finished and the atmosphere was broken apart by the sounds of their very own footsteps, it was just the time for them to leave by foot to arrive punctually at their morning training session.

Notes:

I have something to say about the chapter 243 shower scene.

Kaiser might have been testing Ness to see how far he would go for the Kaiser at the time by asking Ness to rinse him off.

In the following scene where they were both grinning and seemingly happy, they were not facing each other paneling wise. Also, Ness had both his eyes open, while Kaiser only had one of his open.

My point on this might be a little far stretched; however, I can't help but to think that Ness was fully engrossed in (seeing) the moment, (most likely) unknowing of Kaiser's plan to erode his heart (aka manipulate him). Kaiser on the other hand, only had an eye open, which could hint that he actually had other motives as he was not fully engrossed in (seeing) the moment.

Ness's grin also appeared more sincere, while Kaiser's grin resembled one when he "spoke" about malice (reference: Kaiser's grin on chapter 261 after his flashback); it might have been a grin after Kaiser had confirmed that his plan to erode Ness's heart is working well as intended.
