Work Text:

One: Americano

Jimin knew beforehand that it was happening, but it was still a little startling for his boyfriend to have his alarm go off at eight in the morning on Saturday and peel himself out of their bed. Jimin wasn’t really a morning person either, but Yoongi was usually the one who slept even later than he did. Today, however, was special: Yoongi was participating in a game jam with some of his friends from work, and they had from nine in the morning until midnight to plan and create a computer game of some kind. So he had to be up to make sure he was online and ready to go.

Jimin got up too, even though he didn’t have to, just for moral support. Yoongi seemed a little disoriented, wandering directly out of bed and turning on his computer without changing out of his sleep clothes.

“Hey, go get dressed!” Jimin chided him laughingly as he blinked sleepily at his computer desktop (a picture of Jimin next to a very pretty rosebush, that Yoongi had taken himself a few months ago).

Yoongi grunted at him, and squinted his eyes.

“And put your glasses on too,” he went on. “Come on, I’ll make you a coffee while you do that.”

“K,” Yoongi agreed, standing back up.

At least he had the presence of mind to give Jimin a quick peck on the cheek as he passed by. Fifteen minutes later, he was back at his computer, looking much more alert and put-together with his adorable glasses and his “lucky” Lakers t-shirt on, smiling appreciatively as Jimin brought in an Americano - made just the way Yoongi liked it.

“Good luck!” Jimin said, as Yoongi put his headset on and joined his friends in their video chat.

“Thanks!” he said, wiggling a little in his excitement.

Two: Water

A few hours later, Jimin had run a few errands and puttered around the apartment, Yoongi’s voice a constant background noise the whole time he was home. Of course the early stages of the project would require a lot of talking while they figured out exactly what they were going to make. Jimin peeked in a few times, and Yoongi seemed completely absorbed: tapping his feet, ten different windows and probably at least thirty browser tabs open on his screen, the faces of his teammates still in their little rectangles on one side.

He sounded like he was getting a little hoarse, actually. Jimin realized that the coffee was long gone and Yoongi hadn’t had anything else to eat or drink since he’d gotten up. Well, Yoongi usually didn’t have breakfast, but surely on a day where he was using more brain power than usual, he needed to fuel himself a bit more. It wasn’t unusual for Yoongi to get wrapped up in something like this, and power through until he finished, but since he needed to keep going all the way until midnight, Jimin figured a little intervention was called for.

So Jimin first brought him a giant cup of water (a big lidded straw cup, in case he knocked it over) and crept in to carefully place it on the desk next to him and take the dried-out coffee cup away. He tried not to appear in Yoongi’s camera view, but his hand and the edge of his face showed up in it anyway.

But, they were all so focused on what they were doing, they didn’t take any notice. Jimin paused in the doorway, wondering if he’d actually need to tell Yoongi he had to take at least a few sips. They just kept talking! Then, finally, Yoongi reached blindly for the cup. He grabbed it and scooted it over to his face. He picked up the cup, then paused. Jimin found he was holding his breath, unable to look away, like he was watching the world’s lowest-stakes bomb defusing.

Yoongi lifted the cup and hit himself in the nose with the straw. He thunked the cup back down and burst into embarrassed giggles.

“Ah, whoops,” he said to his teammates sheepishly, rubbing his hand over his nose.

Then he quickly picked it up and drank from it properly, and went right back to work. Jimin was satisfied - and endeared.

Three: Smoothie

Another hour later, and the talking from Yoongi’s direction had gotten more sporadic but with a more frustrated tone. It sounded like they had really gotten into the meat of things now, with more coding getting done, but still lots of tough decisions to make or issues to overcome. Jimin suspected that Yoongi was getting a little hangry by now, but probably hadn’t even quite realized it yet.

Just then, the man in question came shuffling out of the office, blowing a big heavy sigh.

“Just using the bathroom,” he said quickly, continuing on his way.

Jimin popped a few frozen hotteok into the microwave and threw together a quick smoothie with frozen fruit and almond juice and a few other things he knew Yoongi liked. He was still in the middle of getting it all ready to carry in to Yoongi when he came back out.

“Whatcha doing?” he asked curiously, leaning in for a quick hug and smooch.

“Making you a snack,” Jimin said with a grin.

“Aw, thank you,” Yoongi said, pressing his head cutely against Jimin’s shoulder.

“Go get back to work, I’ll bring it in to you, okay?” Jimin said.

“It’s okay, I need to stretch just for a moment,” Yoongi said, letting go so Jimin could finish scraping the smoothie out of the blender and checking if the hotteok were hot enough.

True to his word, he lifted his arms way up and stretched, giving Jimin a glimpse of his soft belly as he did so.

“That’s a good idea,” Jimin said, biting his lip and not bothering to hide his ogling eyes. “The game jam going okay?”

“Yup,” Yoongi said, turning from side to side now and oblivious to Jimin’s hungry gaze. “We’re getting into some disagreements on how to get the stats working right, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out.”

“Oh good!”

And indeed, as soon as Yoongi was back at his desk with his snack, after he’d taken one bite of hotteok he suddenly sat up straighter and quickly put his headset back on.

“I just thought of something!” he said to his team. “Here’s how we can get it to work…”

Four: Black Tea

The next time Jimin came to check on him it was nearly two in the afternoon. Yoongi was very deep in thought, eyes glued to the screen - even more windows open now than before - typing rapidly and looking at huge panes of scrolling text. Jimin refilled Yoongi’s water first, and then seeing that he was muted for the moment, chanced engaging him in conversation.

“Can I get you anything else to drink?” he asked.

It took Yoongi a moment to say anything back. Jimin waited patiently for the sound of his voice to worm its way all the way through Yoongi’s auditory processors.

“Oh, yes,” he finally said distractedly, still typing something. “Could you make me a cup of tea?”

Jimin did that, and brought Yoongi a plate of gimbap for good measure. The small trouble he went to for that was amply rewarded when Yoongi gasped appreciatively at the appearance of such bounty.

“You’re an angel,” he said, right before cramming a huge bite of gimbap in his mouth.

“I know,” Jimin said with a giggle.

He gave Yoongi a quick peck on the cheek and then left him to get back to it. Yoongi was already gone to the outside world again, filling yet another screen with with parentheses, brackets, and semicolons.

Five: Latte

Around five, Jimin came in to collect the plates and cups and found Yoongi slumped over his computer in possibly the worst posture he’d ever seen in his life.

“Do you have time for a stretch break?” Jimin stage-whispered to him, slightly accusingly.

Yoongi whipped his head around and sat up with a guilty look. He took his headset off and put it down.

“That’s a great idea,” he whispered back, wide-eyed.

Then he winced and groaned, as the physical sensations of his body caught up to him.

“Oh, why don’t I notice I’m cramping up until it already hurts?” he pouted.

Jimin smiled and put out his hand, pulling Yoongi staggeringly to his feet.

Then, Yoongi fast-walked back and forth through the apartment a few times, groaning and swinging his arms and tilting his head from side-to-side, while Jimin dealt with the dishes. He came into the kitchen and did a few more stretches there, sticking out his butt and dangling his arms. Jimin smiled - Yoongi’s little mannerisms were still just as cute even after all their time together.

So he turned around as soon as Yoongi stood back up, and grabbed him into a hug. Yoongi hummed, and then hummed even more happily when Jimin kissed him.

“Okay, back to work!” Jimin said, patting Yoongi’s butt for good measure.

Yoongi gave him a sarcastic salute but obeyed, waddling back to his computer and seeming more alert again. Still, Jimin made him a latte to give him a little boost as the day gave way into night. Yoongi made an appreciative little ooh noise when Jimin set it down.

“Back off, he’s mine!” he said into his headset right after, laughing at whatever jealous comment one of his friends had made.

Jimin couldn’t resist - he stepped behind Yoongi and grinned at the camera, putting his hands on Yoongi’s shoulders and giving them a quick massage. He could see their faces split into smiles on the screen, and hear a few tinny scraps of their laughter leaking out from Yoongi’s headphones, They must really be getting punchy if that was all it took to set them off!

With one last pat on Yoongi’s head, he left once again, hoping they’d have a good time for the final few hours of the challenge.

Six: Ginger Ale

Jimin hung out right outside Yoongi’s office, listening to the final stretch of the game jam. They were tweaking just a few last things, and then they’d submit it - just in time, as it was fifteen minutes til midnight. Jimin had already ordered a bunch of stuff delivered, and it had just showed up, so that he could finally get Yoongi to eat something substantial. It sounded like it had gone well - Yoongi was giggling, and it sounded like the whole team was being chatty.

Finally, he emerged.

“We did it!” he said exultantly, pumping his fist cutely in the air. “We made a whole digital pet game, and got it submitted in time.”

“Oh, like a tamagotchi?” Jimin asked, grabbing Yoongi’s hand and gently leading him to the table while they talked.

“Yeah, exactly,” he said, running his free hand through his hair.

He looked extremely tousled and rumpled, and even a little sweaty from the stress of the final push to get the project done. But he also looked very proud and pleased.

“Sounds cute, I can’t wait to see a demo of it tomorrow,” Jimin said.

Then, Yoongi finally noticed all the food that Jimin had set out on the table.

“Oh wow,” he said. “This looks great. I didn’t even feel hungry a minute ago, but now…”

“Yes, eat!” Jimin encouraged him, both of them sitting down. “You can tell me all about the rest of it once you’ve eaten.”

So Yoongi happily ate noodles and meat and vegetables, washing it down with the ginger ale Jimin gave him, in hopes that it would help him not get a stomach ache after a very unusual day. Finally, he’d had enough, and slumped back in his seat.

“Thank you,” he said. “My friends were all very jealous, you know. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

Jimin lifted his shoulders up and smiled cutely, as if to say of course. Every hyperfocus ADHD gremlin needed his angel to balance him out.
