Work Text:

spring

the sun always burned the tips of ears when he stood too long outside. he didn’t mind, it felt good, he was in love with the way it felt against his skin. he was in love spring and the way the birds sang, the way his mother’s flowers bloomed. he was in love with all four seasons and how they all tinged his skin various shades of red. but spring, he thought, spring he loved the most.

but mostly, it was the way taehyung looked in the april showers, smile wide, face and eyes turned towards the sky. he was beautiful and jungkook thought that he might love spring because of him.

--

they met like this

in an empty coffee shop late at night trying to escape a storm.

taehyung was laughing gleefully as his bright haired friend grumbled and told him to shut up. jungkook thought he was brighter than the fluorescent lights.

jungkook was seventeen when he met taehyung and maybe he was too young to really know what love was but this, he thought maybe this is what it felt like. like he couldn’t breathe when taehyung smiled at him, like he could be waterfall and all jungkook could do was try to stay afloat. and he didn’t hate the feeling.

“you stare a little too hard did you know?”

jungkook jumped slightly at the voice.

“my name is taehyung.”

“jungkook.” the younger boy didn’t know what to say, he stood frozen as taehyung waited for him to breathe.

“you look like you’re gonna pass out.” taehyung laughed. it was bright and blinding and jungkook didn’t know how to tell him.

“would you like to dance in the rain with me?”

jungkook said yes, if only to count the raindrops that fell from his eyelashes as he twirled around the parking lot.

and he did, he counted each one. and the way taehyung’s lips moved as he spoke, his drawl forming each word slowly.
---

they’d met in spring, jungkook remembered the smell of pollen and fresh rain as they kissed in the parking lot of the coffee shop.

it was spring and jungkook was seventeen and taehyung was nineteen and they liked each other a lot.

taehyung was the sky, different shades of purple and pink, and jungkook wanted to be his sun. it wasn’t hard to let himself fall like this, because taehyung was in front of him, with his smile and those lips, taehyung was there to catch him.

“jungkook-ah, i think i may love you just a little bit.”

jungkook smiled and, he thought, spring may be his favorite season.
--

summer

summer in busan was blue. sky. ocean. taehyung’s swim trunks.

jungkook loved summer almost as much as spring. the blue of the sky was harsh compared to spring. summer was like a child screaming for attention. spring was soft full lips and boxy smiles. summer was loud boys and empty beach houses.

taehyung invited jungkook to his uncle’s beach house.

he said yes and the next morning a van full of loud boys pulled into his driveway.

jungkook loved how taehyung’s smile shone even brighter in the summer sun, just a shade harsher in the summer sun than in the spring but never any less beautiful.

--
the ride to the beach was long and jungkook held taehyung’s hand the entire time. taehyung’s hands were bigger, bigger than jungkook’s definitely. they engulfed his entire hand and he liked that a little too much. he liked to touch his fingers individually, to caress his fingertips and watch as taehyung drifted to sleep.

he loved summer almost as much as spring, summer was naked skin and rumpled bed sheets; spring was lilting laughter and clear brown eyes. summer was blown pupils and mingled breathes.
jungkook loved summer almost as much as he loved spring because he got to hold taehyung agaisnt his chest as he fell asleep.

---

they whispered to each other at night. secrets they couldn’t share in the light of day. soft ‘i love you’s’ and empty promises of forever. jungkook was still seventeen and taehyung was still nineteen and it had only been a two months since they’d met but they were in love.

“we could move to america and get married.”

jungkook wanted to cry but instead; he laughed. it was only summer and they may be in love but they were young. who knew how long taehyung would love him. jungkook was boring and taehyung was brighter than anything he’d ever known.

“we can’t speak any language.”

“namjoon-hyung can. he wants to move to america too. la baby!” taehyung grinned at jungkook and jungkook felt breathless.

“i think i could love you forever, jungkook.” taehyung settled down and lay against his chest, listening as jungkook breathed in and out.

“me too, hyung.”

jungkook loved taehyung as much as he loved spring, softly and with all his heart.
---

autumn

jungkook loved autumn and the way it made taehyung’s flush a permanent pink color. he loved how taehyung would whine and moan about being cold to justify sitting in jungkook’s lap.

he loved autumn and how taehyung always wanted to go to the park and just look at the changing trees.

it was autumn and they were at seokjins apartment and jungkook was a little hungover and very much in love.

taehyung was lying on the couch, elbows digging into jungkooks stomach. it was sweaty and smelled like stale morning breath and alcohol but it's was perfect to jungkook.

“you two are very cute.” seokjin smiled at them as he set the table to serve them homemade kimbap.

namjoon then came strolling out of seokjins bathroom in nothing but boxers and his spongebob socks.

“ah, hyung, put some clothes on.” taehyung grumbled as he stumbled to the dining room table.

“pay my rent and then we'll talk” namjoon grunted before fixing his eyes on seokjin as he moved around the small kitchen.

“namjoon you're staring at him.”

“im looking at the clock.”

jungkook smiled at his older friends. they had fallen in love many years ago and taehyung loved to hear the story over and over.

they met in spring, seokjin said it was April, and jungkook remembers the feeling.

he remembers their first month together and how taehyungs lips tasted like rain when they kissed in the parking lot.

“namjoon was nervous because he had never seen ‘such a pretty dude’ before. he was still a bit of a pig, but he's mine and I love him. so I can deal with most of his douchebag tendencies.”

and jungkook could understand that. taehyung was always bright and brash and beautiful. jungkook knew he was winter compared to taehyung but it matched because taehyung was spring and jungkook didn't mind being a dull platform for taehyung to shine on.

jungkook loved autumn because he got to see taehyung in his sweaters and sweet whipped cream mustaches. autumn was chilly and the leaves fell from the trees in the park across the street from his apartment.

in autumn jungkook turned 18 and taehyung was 20 and they were happy.

winter

winter was christmas lights and dancing around the living room of his brand new cramped apartment with taehyung giggling into his cheek.

winter was fresh snow and cold wind and taehyung snoring softly as a movie played on the tv.

jungkook loved winter because it was the sixth month they'd been together and his heart hadn't faltered once.

“I told yoongi that I might love him” jimin whispered to them one late at night four days before christma.

“what did he say?” taehyung leaned closer to his best friend with wide eyes, hand squeezing jungkooks thigh.

“he said ‘took you long enough, idiot” jimin cackled and taehyung did his wierd but endearing seal clap laugh and jungkook just smiled at the two of them.

“I wish yoongi looked at me the way jungkook looks at you.” jimin leaned in and pinched jungkooks cheek.

“shut up, hyung.” jungkook slapped at jimins hand

“I love you, jeon jungkook.” taehyung kissed jungkooks cheek.

“yoongi is coming home soon so I'm gonna go. but I want to see you two on christmas.” jimin left with a smile and waving hands and jungkook couldn't stop smiling at taehyung.

“im no surprised that you love me. why did did you say it though?’

“I have a gift for you. I'll give it to you on christmas eve.”

“ah, thats not fair! please, hyung!” jungkook gave his best puppy dog eyes to no avail.

“just wait.”

is was christmas eve and jungkook had forgotten about taehyungs gift. he was so wrapped up in christmas movies and decompressing from all his mid terms.

it was 8pm on christmas eve that taehyung dropped to one knee in front of their stumpy christmas tree.

“taehyung what are you doing?”

“stop talking. okay so, I'm nervous. but I think it's pretty obvious what I'm doing. I really love you, a ton. and you're so gorgeous and strong and funny and youre really good at dancing. and you love me a lot which I appreciate. so please….just...will you marry me?”

jungkook stared down at taehyung with a frown.

“I was going to do it first. I was waiting for our one year anniversary, asshole.”

taehyung slipped his ring on jungkooks finger before standing up and kissing jungkook soundly on the mouth.

“let's call it a promise ring.”

jungkook burst into tears because taehyung was the sky and jungkook was the river it reflected off of, he wasn't amazing and he wasn't beautiful, he was plain and ordinary but taehyung him.

jungkook was 18 and taehyung was almost 21 but they were happy.
----------

three years had passed and it was spring again.

“my baby is getting married.” seokjin patted jungkooks cheeks and wiped away his own stray tear.

taehyung wanted to get married in the spring. when the sky was clear and fresh flowers bloomed.

“it reminds me of you, kookie-ah.’ hed whispered in his ear one night as they stared up at their ceiling, the air hot and their breaths mingling.

“me?”

“yes. so bright and beautiful, reminds me of when you sing to me.”

taehyung was his spring and jungkook was taehyungs spring.

it had been three years and taehyung would always be his spring.

“you're, like, really doing this. its crazy.” hoseok laughed as jungkook glared at him.

“you knocked someone up, hoseok, shut up!” seokjin threw a corsage at him

“it happens.” hoseok dodged the flowers and dashed out of the room.

“can you believe he's gonna be a dad?”

“hes scared of kunamon, imagine watching kids shows with him.” jungkook joked.

a few minutes passed before seokjin stood up from his chair and looked at jungkook with his lecturing mother expression.

“when namjoon and I got married, I never thought it would be better than before. I thought it was going to be the same as before but….it got so much better. I know how to explain it, we're just closer and I love it and him.” seokjin told him and jungkook believed it, it was probably the promise of their always being something more permanent. the label husband just seemed more concrete than boyfriend ever did.

“i still had times where I'd look at namjoon and think I couldn't believe he married me. he's so handsome and charming and he could have anyone he wanted but he chose me. and I get to wake up and fall in love with him again everyday and I'll always be grateful” seokjin smiled down at jungkook before telling the younger boy to stand up and get ready to walk down the aisle to his soon to be husband.

it was spring and jungkook was getting married. he stood at the podium with wide eyes and slightly chapped lips, seokjin was by his side and jimin was by taehyungs. it was scary and exciting and jungkook was was on the brink of tears the moment he saw taehyung.

it was warm and the sun was shining on taehyung, who was smiling at jungkook the entire time, mouth crooked and eye squinted. he was beautiful and jungkook couldn't believe he was marrying the most beautiful person hed ever seen.

jungkook was 21 and taehyung was 24 and they were spending the rest of their lives together.
