Chapter Text

Chapter 1

Returning to business after The Doomstar had been dealt with Had been pleasingly straight forward for Charles. Dethklok would continue to make music with Charles as their manager, however, Charles insisted that everyone still needed rest after all the excitement and doing so might give the boys chance to brainstorm ideas before the more solid composition work could begin on their next album. For once no one argued with him, and so, Charles looked upon a very short task schedule for the coming weeks. Aside from the domestic minutia of keeping Mordhaus running the most pressing matter would be the upcoming celebration of Toki’s birthday, if Charles remembered correctly his youngest band member would be turning 28. His thoughts were interrupted as General Crozier entered the room.

‘Ah, Good Morning General, thank you for coming.'

‘No problem at all, Offdensen.’

‘Are you happy with your new duties as Chief of Mordhaus Security and Safety?’

‘I am, but it’s awful quiet at the moment ‘

‘Well, perhaps preparations for Toki’s upcoming birthday celebrations will, ah, liven things up for you.’

The general turned in his seat as if to address the entire room despite the fact that Charles was the sole occupant. Crozier started his speech.

‘Ah yes, Toki Wartooth’s 28th birthday celebration, marking him safe from the possibility of joining the infamous 27 Club. Here to explain is Celebrity Mortality expert Professor Flugalfloggalfuffultheth.’

A tall man sporting a Mortarboard hat, periwinkle shoes and a magnificent red cape swept into Charles’s office, before Charles could object a button was clicked and slide show was projected onto a screen which had seemingly appeared from nowhere. Flugalfloggalfuffultheth stood before the Screen and spoke.

‘The 27 Club is the cultural phenomenon of gifted artists passing away suddenly at the age of 27, the likes of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse all have the dubious honour of belonging to The 27 Club. If Toki Wartooth falls to this curse , it will be a tragedy for Dethklok! Some believe the 27 Club is caused by..’

‘ And some of us believe this is nonsense.’ Charles interjected. ‘ There is ,ah, no statistical evidence that a musician is any more likely to die at the age of 27. Toki has stared death in the face this year more times than I would care to count. ‘ Charles turned to Crozier ‘why did you bring this man here?’

‘I’m sorry, Offdensen, we did things differently at my old job. Professor Flugalfloggalfuffultheth, you may go. ‘

A crestfallen Professor Flugalfloggalfuffultheth slunk out of the room. Cape trailing behind him.

With the screen and professor whatever the hell his name was gone, Charles’s office returned to normal and he was able to talk to Crozier more rationally.

‘General, I know in your previous work with The Tribunal your observations of Dethklok lead you all to come up with some uh, interesting ideas on the possible disruption and harm the band could cause, heck, it’s why you’re so suited for Safety and Security, but this is really just about organising Toki’s birthday party. I was thinking of holding a charity benefit for his beloved kitty Cat hospital. Perhaps at night club across the street from the Cat hospital, that way Toki can also visit the cats. I was hoping you would be able to consult with me and the venue to organise the security detail. Can you do that?’

‘Yes, Sir.’

‘Dismissed.’

And Charles was blessedly alone again. He poured himself a brandy and looked again at the information that he had simply Googled on The 27 Club. Charles had heard the phenomena mentioned around the industry, but every job had its horror stories. Toki had been stabbed, abducted, shot at, and strapped into some kind of cosmic centrifuge to extract his life essence, and still the man continued to walk the earth with a smile on his face. Not to mention they had all defeated the major existential threat to the band which came in the shape of a star wielding alien, So far as Charles was concerned it was everyone around Toki who needed to fear for their lives, and besides, Toki’s birthday was just two short weeks away and they were all on a break, what could possibly happen?
