Work Text:

The doctor specifically told Faye that she’d feel a slight pain in her gums when they started injecting her with the anesthesia, but the yelp she loudly let out seemed to negate that warning.

It badly hurt when it did, but she fell asleep faster than she could count backward from 10 to 1, just like they promised. That one she was thankful for.

When she woke up, the next thing she found was a pair of beautiful eyes staring amusedly at her. Faye felt her world slowly spin as she tried to refocus her vision, only to be met with resistance from the bed. Wires kept her securely in place, and she did wake up confused.

The woman beside her laughs a little bit at her state.

Pissed, she raised an eyebrow. “Excuse me, is something funny?”

To add to her annoyance, the woman only chuckled in return. “Do you know your name?”

“Of course, I do,” Irritation evident in her raspy voice. “I’m Faye. Do I know you or something? And what are you doing here?”

The woman could only stifle another laugh. Faye is starting to get mad at this point from having no answers. She really just wants to go home and hide under the covers. Probably sip a hot choco to relieve the slight throbbing on the side of her cheek. Also, play solitaire with her wife while they watch a rerun of FRIENDS on the television. It’s supposed to be back on Netflix Thailand anyway. Why are there flying objects obscuring her vision?

Her wife! Where is she anyway?

“Do you know who I am?” The woman kindly asked.

“Honestly, I don’t,” Faye furrowed her eyebrows in question. “Should I?”

“You should.”

Faye felt bad despite the headache. The woman beside her looked like she was here the whole time Faye was under medication and hadn’t left since. Though it was only for a few hours, she still felt she owed her something. But that doesn’t matter. The world still hasn’t stopped spinning in her vision, and the whole scene just feels like a fever dream. She can make it up with the kind woman later, but she needs to look for her wife right now.

As she was starting to feel some sort of panic from not being able to see her wife anywhere, the woman beside her started to rub circles on her chest. Faye almost had a heart attack from the skin contact, the fear of God flashing through her eyes as she tried to pry the kind but still unknown woman from her.

The woman’s pained expression quickly disappeared as fast as it appeared from her face. At this point, Faye is very confused, and the haze surrounding her vision still hasn’t left.

Again, where is her wife?

“It’s okay,” the woman smiles at her.

Faye feels butterflies flooding her insides. It’s as if some sort of calmness washed away all of her built-up panic and anxiety from being alone in the room. The woman brought that with her, and she’s never really paid attention until now when she needed the comfort. The first thing that Faye noticed was her eyes. Deep and soulful, those brown orbs could probably heal her immediately if she looked into them more closely and made her do impossible things. She felt her heart race painfully fast; It was as if she had fallen in love with the woman at first sight, but another wave of drowsiness washed over her. Sleep is trying to pull her under again.

Why is she reacting this way towards a stranger?

“It’s okay,” the woman said, reaching over and continuing to rub comforting strokes up and down her arms. “You’re okay, Baby.”

The state of panic is back upon hearing those words. Faye can feel the medicine pulling her under, but she has to fight back against the intruder who wants to ruin her really good relationship with her wife. She will not let a decade of amazing memories fade because of this encounter.

“You’re obviously a nice woman,” Faye fought off sleep to get those words out. “But I love my wife. She is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, and we built a really good relationship and life together. She’s my happiness, my pride, and joy, and I would never jeopardize that.

“Yoko will get upset if she sees you touching me or calling me baby, and that’s the last thing I want to happen. I never want her to feel that ever, so if you could please just,” she rambled on. “Take off your hands before I go under again and before my wife sees you and formulates some sort of conclusion that you and I doing something behind her back.”

“That’s alright, Baby.” The pretty woman flashed her a grin, eyes turning into crescents and lips stretching into the most beautiful shape. Though Faye could feel the medicine working any minute now, the haze suddenly cleared before her because of that smile. It’s the same smile she fell in love with 10 years ago and the same kind eyes that took care of her every day. It’s the same endearment she’s accustomed to, and the same voice that said ‘ I do’ during her wedding day.

Their wedding day.

“It’s me, Yoko,” her wife laughed fully and heartily at the same time Faye finally recognized her. “Your wife.”
