Love in the Aftermath

Summary:

"Wait, Mavuika," Capitano begged. "You see, I'm not what I used to be. I'm much older than I appear." "Age doesn't matter to me," Mavuika replied. "My lady, I fear my appearance might shock you. These clothes, they hide more than just my aging body." Capitano's voice filled with concerned.

Chapter Text

The night sky was a canvas of deep velvet, speckled with twinkling stars, as Capitano stood on the balcony of his chamber, gazing upon the ancient city below. The once quiet and desolate streets now buzzed with life, a stark contrast to the recent dark times when monsters threatened its very existence. He felt a sense of satisfaction knowing he had played a crucial role in the city's salvation.

A gentle breeze carried the sounds of laughter and music from the lively streets, a testament to the newfound freedom and joy. Capitano's sharp eyes scanned the city, taking in the sights and sounds, when a familiar figure approached him. It was Mavuika, the ruler of this ancient land, her red hair shimmering in the soft moonlight.

"Capitano, I wanted to thank you personally for your valiant efforts in saving my city," Mavuika said, her voice carrying a mix of gratitude and admiration. Despite their history as foes, the recent events had forged a tentative truce between them.

Capitano, his dark blue eyes glinting beneath his helmet, responded, "It was my duty. My purpose is to protect the world, even if it means allying with enemies." A hint of regret laced his words, as he added, "It's a shame we couldn't have been allies sooner."

Mavuika stepped closer, her yellow-flamed hair swaying gently. "Indeed, it would have been an honor to fight by your side. I find myself enjoying the idea of us as partners in battle and..." Her voice trailed off, as if she had revealed more than intended.

In that moment, Mavuika acted on impulse, leaning in to close the distance between them. Capitano, caught off guard, hesitated, then gently stopped her.

"Wait, Mavuika," he whispered, his voice soft yet firm. "You see, I'm not what I used to be. I'm much older than I appear."

"Age doesn't matter to me," she replied, her eyes burning with desire.

Mavuika's hands reached for Capitano's armored chest, her touch electric. She attempted to pull him closer, her passion evident. Capitano, however, resisted, his hands gently grasping hers.

"My lady, I fear my appearance might shock you," he said, his voice filled with concern. "These clothes, they hide more than just my aging body."

Mavuika declared, her voice fierce. "I want to see the man beneath the armor."

Capitano's heart sank as he realized the depth of her desire. "My clothes must remain. They protect more than just my body," he explained, his tone pleading. "I cannot risk exposing my true self."

Mavuika's face softened as she understood the weight of his words. "I apologize. I should respect your wishes. Your clothes will stay on."

Relieved, Capitano nodded, his hand reaching up to touch his helmet. "And this too, must stay. I... I don't even know what I look like anymore. It's been so long."

"I can handle it, Capitano," Mavuika assured him, her eyes locking with his. "I want to see all of you, even if it's just a glimpse."

Capitano shook his head, his hesitation evident. "I don't want to scare you. I might be... different now."

Mavuika's determination didn't waver. She leaned in, her lips close to his helmet, and tried to kiss him. Capitano, caught between desire and self-consciousness, pushed her away gently.

"I'm sorry, but there's something else," he mumbled, feeling like a fool. "I haven't checked my scent in ages."

Mavuika's expression fell, her disappointment evident. "I understand. You don't have to explain. I appreciate your consideration."

Capitano felt a pang of guilt, realizing he had hurt her feelings. "I didn't mean to insult you, my lady. It's just... I'm not used to this. If you still wish to..." He trailed off, searching for the right words.

"I do," Mavuika interrupted, her voice soft yet resolute. "But I'd like you to feel comfortable. Take your time, prepare as you see fit. I can wait."

Capitano nodded, grateful for her understanding. "I promise, I'll make it worth the wait. Just... give me some time."

Mavuika smiled, her eyes sparkling in the moonlight. "I trust you, Capitano. Take all the time you need." With a final, longing look, she turned and left the balcony, leaving Capitano alone with his thoughts.

He felt a mix of emotions—regret, longing, and uncertainty. In his 500 years of existence, he had never imagined desiring intimacy with a woman. Skilled in combat and strategy, he was now grappling with the intricacies of romance. He thought of Childe, his loyal subordinate, who had once confided in him about falling in love with a potential adversary. Perhaps, Capitano should seek Childe's counsel when they next met.

As Capitano stood there, gazing at the city that had become a symbol of their newfound peace, he realized that love and desire could blossom even in the unlikeliest of circumstances. And maybe, just maybe, he was ready to explore this unfamiliar territory, with Mavuika by his side.
