Work Text:
George has a love-hate relationship with football. American football, to be clear.
It’s not something he was ever interested in as a kid and as he got older, it came up more simply because Dream likes it and that’s it.
When they were just friends, he had been able to pass it off. He didn’t enjoy it and there was never really an obligation to be involved. Dream would disappear when it came on and George would nap in his London apartment, waking up to Dream’s call if the Sooners won and a cranky text if they lost.
But now, George has to pretend like it’s something he likes. It’s one of his boyfriend responsibilities, or at least it’s one of the imaginary responsibilities he’s added to a mental list of things he should do. Dream doesn’t expect anything from him but George thinks that he should do this, at least, because of how much Dream does for him.
Their relationship is as balanced as it can be, with the way Dream wears his heart on his sleeve and George is tongue-tied when it comes to his emotions. Doing the little things, like watching a football game he doesn’t care about to support Dream, are the things George does to keep them in equilibrium.
Even with the way he loves Dream and the way Dream is so obsessed with the sport, George has to admit it does get really fucking boring. Like how many times can he watch the same guys catch the same ball before he gets tired of it?
Dream is lucky that he’s so cute with the way he watches the game, as if missing one second would be the death of him, or George would sleep through every single one.
Today is just another game day, Dream already wearing his OU jersey and leaving out an OU hoodie for George to put on because he thinks it’s good luck, and George sighs as he pulls it over his head.
There has to be something to make this a little more enjoyable, considering he thinks that this will be a sport he has to watch for the rest of his foreseeable future.
So after scrolling through Tik Tok for ways to make enjoyable for someone who doesn’t care about it, he lands on football BINGO, for the spouses of football fans.
His face burns at the word but ignores it as he pulls out his iPad, thinking it could make the day fun. George thinks he can get every square on a BINGO board filled in one shot, either because of his familiarity with Dream or the lack of expressions he yells during a game, or maybe both.
George starts to giggle as he draws a BINGO board with 25 slots, starting to think of some phrases he knows Dream will say or things he will do.

George stares at the list and laughs, excited to start watching and see how many he gets right.
Dream is already calling him from downstairs in the living room, meaning the game is definitely about to start soon, so George grabs his iPad and trots down the steps.
“You look happy,” Dream says, smiling, and George just nods as Dream pulls him into his side with a kiss to his temple. “Ready?”
He nods, like he would ever not be ready, opening his tablet and tucking himself into the corner of the couch to watch more of Dream than of the game. He doesn’t need to know that though.
As soon as it starts, George crosses off #1.
1. “Boomer sooner”
George snorts, coloring in the box with his blue highlighter color. Easy W, he thinks.
Almost immediately, the Sooners have a bad play and Dream starts to curse, a bunch of shit George can’t hear or understand.
24. Mumbles under breath
He’s standing, pacing around the room. Even seeming so distressed from the game, George thinks he looks cute. His curls are short but growing back, thank God for that, and George couldn’t be happier. In his defense, he thinks Dream looks great with both but he prefers the curls, and Dream does too. His eyes are trained on the TV, watching the men on screen run back and forth while being stopped by the refs.
The other team gets a touchdown and Dream groans, covering his mouth. Even without enjoying the game, George scrunches his nose. As much as he doesn’t like football, he likes when Dream is happy. He hopes the Sooners win, almost as much as Dream does.
Finally as the game keeps going, the Sooner get a touchdown and field goal, tying up the game. George lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding, watching Dream for his reaction.
As soon as the ball makes it through the posts, Dream stands with his hands in the air and yells.
Another point for George.
2. “Let’s fucking go”
Easy money, dude. Dream is so predictable during football games.
As they watch, George compares this game to the first game he watched with Dream and Sapnap and Florida. He can’t help but laugh at himself with the contrast, knowing that his first game with them was a little awkward. Despite knowing Dream and Sapnap for so long, he had pretended to be intrigued, which ended up with a lot of questions about football and eyerolls from the others.
Now, he just sits back and watches when a play catches his eye, otherwise scrolls on his phone and gives silent, moral support.
When Patches trots in during the game, George smirks and watches Dream, waiting for her to be in his line of vision.
As soon as he sees her, he gives her a look and waves at the TV, talking to her like she knows the game.
5. “Patches, do you see this?”
It’s funny that he engages Patches more in the game play than George but he thinks it’s because Dream knows he’s not all that interested in it. He tries, at least, and sticks around to be supportive.
The Sooners are clearly in over their heads with this game, not playing nearly to their full potential, starting to lose control on the field. Dream starts to yell, getting far too close to the TV. “It’s like they’ve never seen a football game before. I can run faster than that!” he complains.
14. “I can run faster than that”
Dream hops up and down in his spot, waiting for something else to happen. He’s on edge, waiting for the call to be made. When the call is finally made, it's a bad one, George thinks, by Dream’s reaction.
“You’re the fucking refs, do something!” Dream yells, facepalming.
16. Complains about the refs
Dream scoffs and rolls his eyes while turning his back to the TV. He sits next to George and leans back, glaring as if the Sooners have personally offended him.
As he sits, he crosses his arms and shakes his head while he looks up at the ceiling, mumbling under his breath. George can only make out a few words, but he hears the word fuck quite a few times.
7. Crosses arms and shakes head
21 . Stares at the ceiling
George laughs, leaning away from Dream. He’s got this in the bag, this is so easy. Too bad the Sooners aren’t winning, but maybe they will have a comeback. George believes in them. The entire first half goes poorly, Oklahoma never catching up before halftime.
When the band comes on, he hears Dream sigh with relief. “Thank God, I can’t watch,” he says as he walks to the kitchen grabbing a snack. “Fuck Texas, dude, the Sooners need to get it together.”
Bang, bang. Two more down.
George crosses those on his list, seeing the colored board get even more filled.
6. “Fuck
Texas!
19. Says
he can’t watc
h and walks away
While Dream is in the other room, George hears him get on the phone. At first, he can’t tell who Dream is talking to or what he’s saying, but as he rounds closer to the living room, George starts coloring.
“Texas fucking sucks, Sap, we’re just off our game today.” Dream chokes back much more insulting words and George is kind of proud, considering how badly the two of them yell together during games.
20. Calls Sapnap to complain
When Dream comes back, the phone is off but he’s got a cup of ice in his hand and angrily crunches. It’s endearing, even with the way Dream’s eyebrows scrunch with worry and the hard ice rattles in his mouth. His lips are pink from the cold and wet, and George can’t help but kiss them. “They’ll catch up,” he tells Dream hopefully, trying to be optimistic.
“Thanks,” Dream says, turning back to the TV as the game starts up again.
As the channel plays the other team cheering, a very obvious contrast from the Sooners that are huddled silently, Dream mocks them quietly while standing up and walking out of the room.
22. Mocks the other team
George waits patiently for Dream to come back, watching to make sure that the game doesn’t start or he’ll call for Dream, but it doesn’t. Dream jogs back, new jersey on his chest and a different sweatshirt in his hand. “Did I miss anything?” he asks, slightly out of breath from rushing to get back in time. Dream puts his hand out with a different hoodie. “Here, put this on. We need good luck.”
Nailed it.
13. Switches jersey for good luck
He highlights the box before taking it from Dream, switching from the red hoodie that says Sooners to the new sweatshirt. George freezes when he takes it in his hands, seeing that it’s the hoodie. Dream’s prized possession hoodie, gray with a red OU on the front. He has a million Oklahoma Sooners hoodies and George has probably worn over half of them at this point but this sweatshirt in particular is Dream’s original, special hoodie.
“Really?” George can’t hide his surprise. “This is yours.”
Dream looks away from the television to look at George over his shoulder, mustering a smile. “Yeah, I want you to wear it. Okay?”
George smiles back and pulls it over his head, messing up his hair. “Thank you.”
Without looking back again, Dream gets about two feet from the screen and George refrains from yelling at him. Instead, he tries to keep the mood light. “You’re a better door than a window, idiot, move over.”
“Since when do you watch the game?” Dream asks, not taking his eyes off the screen but moving to the side. Before George can even answer, Dream claps loudly three times. “We’ve got this, get it together boys.”
3. Claps
aggressively 3 times
After halftime, the Sooners start to play a little bit better. They get a touchdown but miss the field goal. Dream hates when they do that but they’re down so many points right now, he doesn’t even yell. “Oh, come on,” Dream says
12. “Oh, come on”
George loves when he says that, reminding him of early 2020 and when their fans would have such a big reaction to it. He remembers those words leaving Dream’s mouth both publicly and privately, and also remembers them as one of the first things George found so attractive that he started to question his feelings for Dream.
He says them so calmly and–and seductively, it’s not his fault. There’s just something special and so fucking hot about those words that George feels in every bone of his body.
The Sooners start to catch up, another touchdown, almost bringing the teams to a tie, before the refs make a shit call.
It’s so bad that even George is confused on how they fucked up that badly. “What the hell?” George asks, sitting up.
“I’m gonna crash out, I’m actually gonna crash out,” Dream says, eyes looking frantic as they look between George and the TV. “That was such a fucking shit call, this is fucking stupid.”
Two more down, at least.
9. “I’m gonna
crash out”
10. “This is
fucking stupid”
George can agree with that one, at least. He quietly crosses out two more of the BINGO squares, looking to see how many he has left.
It’ll be close but George thinks he’ll make it and cross off all twenty-five on the list.
Luckily since it’s the beginning of the second half still, the Sooners challenge the call. As they do, Dream sits down. He pulls off his sneakers and tosses them under the coffee table before standing up, pacing around the room.
8. Pulls off
sho
es
Dream groans and pulls on his hair, leaving it a disaster, sticking out at every side and right in the center. It’s messy but it’s cute, at least on Dream it is.
4. Pulls hair
George laughs and for some reason, he finds Dream’s socked feet and messy hair so cute. Something about him like this makes George’s heart swoon, messy hair without shoes and a top that’s too big on him, hanging over gray sweats.
He thinks it’s because it’s so domestic, the way Dream is so comfortable in their home together. He loves everything about Dream.
The bad call remains and Dream groans loudly, grabbing a pillow and tossing it across the room.
10. Picks up
pillow and throws it
When he chucks it, he sees Naomi and Patches sprint out of the room because the pillow goes toward their general vicinity. It was never going to hit them, nor was it more than a gentle lob of the pillow, but Naomi is skittish and Patches is quick to follow.
“Sorry Naomi,” Dream mumbles, “I guess I’m being too loud, huh?” Dream whispers quietly, turning to look at the last remaining cat in the room.
“You’re the brave one. You’re a football fan, right? You’ll tell them I said sorry?” he asks Milo.
11. Apologizes to Naomi for being loud
George accidentally coos aloud, not able to help himself. How could he not? He’s so fucking cute. Milo just sits there wide eyed, looking at Dream. He looks so small against Dream’s hand where he aggressively pats him, whispering how the Sooners are going to win, when he looks like a full cat in George or Sapnap’s arms.
18. Pats one of the cats
George is on a roll! He’s only got a few more left, but to be fair, the game is almost over.
He hopes the Sooners win. George hates to see Dream get so down when they don’t.
They have a chance though, only one touch down away from taking the lead, though there’s only a few minutes left of the half. It can go either way, really, with the position they’re in. If they get one more touchdown, they win. If they can’t do it in the next few minutes, they lose.
Fuck. Even George is getting antsy, pushing his iPad aside for a minute to watch the last play of the game.
As they get closer to the end zone, Dream calls out George’s name. “George!” he whines, sitting on the couch beside him. Mentally, he checks off the box.
15. “George!”
Dream grabs his hand tightly, squinting to peer out of his eyes at the TV, as if he can’t watch but needs to.
Another mental check.
17. Grabs George’s
hand during a play
George grabs Dream’s hand tightly back, both from the stress of waiting to see the last play and to give Dream comfort.
And at the last second, the Sooners make the touchdown.
They both jump up in the air, cheering. George might not know much about football but he does get excited when they win, especially for Dream. He knows how much it means to Dream that they win.
Dream throws a punch in the air before wrapping his arms around George’s shoulders, pulling him into his chest. He leans in and presses their lips together, barely centered and George isn’t sure it can even be considered a kiss because they’re both smiling.
25. Kisses George
at the end of the game
George giggles, letting Dream pick him up and twirl him around, hands gripping onto Dream’s biceps when he’s lifted into the air. “We did it!” Dream yells when George is back on the ground, bending to kiss him again.
“Boomer sooners!” George cheers with Dream, laughing.
Dream hums and puts an arm around George’s waist, pulling him in close. He kisses the crown of George’s head through his hair, making him smile. “I love you,” Dream says.
“I love you, too,” George replies. “Oh, wait!” he says, pulling away to grab his iPad. He grabs it and crosses off the last three boxes, getting an entirely blackout BINGO.
“What the hell is that?” Dream asks, noticing it for the first time which makes George laugh.
He turns the tablet around to show Dream the screen. “It’s like, football BINGO, for spouses of football lovers,” George says.
“Spouse? You’re my spouse now?” Dream asks George with a smirk and they both laugh while George calls him an idiot.
“I wrote a list of things I thought you’d say or do during the game and look! I got all of them!” he tells Dream proudly.
Dream gets closer and grabs the iPad, carefully reading everything on the BINGO. “I did not do all of this,” he says tentatively. “Did I?”
“You did,” George assures him. He pushes the iPad away and kisses Dream. “And you’re so cute when you do it.”
Dream rolls his eyes and grabs the iPad back. “So that’s why you weren’t asking questions or making comments,” Dream says, “maybe I’ll have to do one, too. I’ll make a BINGO about things you say during the game, as the spouse of a football fan.”
George blushes, grimacing. He had seen one of those Tik Toks during his search for inspiration. He doesn’t even want to know what stupid shit he says every game, but he thinks maybe it could be fun.
