Chapter Text

Living with Eddie Brock has been an adjustment, but it was fine overall.

You had one roommate. Well, technically two but one of them is living inside the other — listen, it’s not easy explaining or talking about the symbiote parasite thing that took over Eddie about three months ago, but he’s dealing with it. You’re dealing with it. Venom is loving it and as long as everyone gets along, there wasn’t a problem here.

You’ve known Eddie Brock since you were in the 9th grade and he was in the 10th, how he got stuck with you neither of you remember. You know that a teacher paired you two up in a class and ever since then, the both of you kind of stuck together with no explanation. It was a ‘it was meant to be’ kind of thing.

At one point, you two lost connection after graduating. Then you two reconnected again when you got a news photographer job at the news station Eddie worked at as a reporter. Since his boss was already on thin ice with him over some reports he has done, and since you already had a past with the man, he had paired you to work with Eddie.

And you’ve stuck with him ever since. Even after all the Carlton Drake stuff, with him breaking up with Anne because of the Carlton Drake stuff, up til you learned about, aforementioned symbiote, Venom.

Who was currently staring at you. But he looked like one of those stretched out sticky hand things, but it was just his head sticking out from Eddie’s shoulder.

“So you’re Venom.”

I AM VENOM!

“Yeah,” Eddie says with a sigh, “she got that buddy.” you grin. In many ways, Venom was like a cat; he was constantly hungry, up at random hours of the day, driving Eddie insane and picking favorites when he wants.

Eddie has mentioned Venom to you before, the both of you know that each other exist but you never met each other til now. You’ve always wanted to meet the symbiote, but he was shy — a personality trait you never knew the creature had when Eddie described the creature as ‘oddly charismatic’.

YOU’RE THE GIRL FROM EDDIE’S YEARBOOK.

“I can’t believe I let you look through them…” Eddie groaned when he sees your childish smile, giddy he had something to show the past.

“You still have those?” you snorted, you look under the coffee table he had bought for the apartment, “Jesus, you do! God I’m so glad my dad didn’t buy them… he’d be making fun of me and my friends.” Eddie snickered as he joined you closer on the couch. He looked at you with a smile, wondering why you were happy they weren’t bought? You helped work on the pages with him in the class, then again you didn’t have the best time in high school like he had. “High school sucked,” Eddie flips the pages for you as you held the book in your lap, Venom peered over head as he looked for your photo. “My dad got pissed one year. Fucking seniors egged one of his cars as Happy was driving it.” you talked to Eddie as if you didn’t both suffer three or four years together. Though now that you think about it, you’re pretty positive your dad would do something like that when he was in high school — hell, he’d have provided the eggs.

Eddie gave you a sheepish look, he might have been dragged along by some friends of his on the football team to take part in that. Now that he thought about it, he was a little shit in high school to. “Sorry about that,” you rolled your eyes as you pushed him playfully with your shoulder, Venom realized that Eddie felt happy when she did. He also sees how close Eddie’s leg is to yours, thighs touching but neither of them caring — or maybe he did care? Venom didn’t know, Eddie wouldn’t share those thoughts about you with him. “Man, your dad… still can’t get an interview with him though, huh?”

“In your wettest dreams, Ed.”

“You’re gross, y’know?”

“Says the man who ate a bag of frozen chicken nuggets—“

Eddie points at you accusingly, “—That was not me.”

IT WAS ME!” Venom beamed, quite proudly actually and you snort out a laugh. “WHO IS YOUR FATHER THAT EDDIE THINKS OF ALL THE TIME?

“All the time huh?”

“…I hate both of you.” but he doesn’t, Eddie could never hate you. What he did hate, however, is that he couldn’t get an interview with Tony Stark — your dad. How you didn’t end up like him is beyond Eddie’s imagination, but he’s glad Tony didn’t force you to follow in the family footsteps; in fact, when you asked your dad about moving in with Eddie he encouraged it. “Your dad said he’d give me an interview…”

Eddie—“

Eddie smiles when you whined his name in frustration and Venom chuckled, Eddie just out his hands up in defeat. He wasn’t getting anywhere with that. “Alright, no interview with Tony Stark. You know who does want an interview with me?”

You raised an eyebrow, “I thought you had to scout out the interviews?”

“Yeah well,” Eddie rubs under his nose with his pointer finger, sniffing a bit as he closed the yearbook. Forgetting why either of you were looking at it in the first place he tucks it under the coffee table, “I’m taking what I can get now these days… this guy, Cletus Kasady—“

“—Jesus, Ed…” while Eddie did have Venom and even without Venom, you knew he can take care of himself, you knew about this crazy fucker. “Listen if you’re that desperate for news, I can maybe pull some strings but dads busy as shit and that man is insane…”

Eddie waved you off, he really didn’t care about the interview with Tony Stark anymore. He only kept saying that to piss you off, to get you irritated with him — it was something that oddly brought serotonin to the guy, Venom didn’t know why but he had a good hunch as to why (and Venom won’t deny he enjoyed seeing you flustered too). “Listen, for whatever reason they’re telling me Kasady only wants to speak to me.”

“Weird… what’s also weird is why you have two chickens roaming around the apartment.” Eddie and you both jump up on the couch, feet not touching the ground as you see the two chickens fighting each other — Eddie groans.

“You are a master of changing topic of conversation,” you smile at him, then look at Venom who seemed excited that his two chickens were having fun. “Just eat them for Christ sake!” Eddie begged, frowning when he sees feathers flying everywhere. Like if you were fighting with feather filled pillows and they just flew everywhere.

NO!” Venom growled as he made Eddie’s arms into his, you were taken a bit back by that but amused and intrigued as you watched the alien grab the two chickens. “THEY ARE FRIENDS!

“Out of all the fucking chickens—“

—THEY’RE SUNNY AND CHER!” you snicker, where the fuck does Venom know these things and decided to name his chickens that?

“Y/N, can you help me out here with these—“ as he’s fighting with the chickens in his possession, Eddie briefly looses control and elbows you in the nose.

Hard.

Eddie was pretty certain he heard a crunch.

“Jesus fuck—“ you wince as you immediately grab your nose, looking for a tissue or something for the blood to drip into.

Y/N!” Venom seemed worried and dropped the chickens, you wanted to laugh because it sounded just like the stock sounds from Minecraft — god you were a nerd, a nerd in pain, with a broken nose… god it was painful! “I’M SORRY!

Eddie was frustrated more so with Venom, it was mostly his fault. Both of their faults if you want to play the blame game: Eddie should’ve looked where you were and paid attention to his surroundings, Venom because he had gotten excited over something stupid like his chickens.

“Are you okay?” Eddie asks, immediately placing a hand on the side of your cheek and bringing your face to his. His thumb on the side of your cheek, you sniff and wince.

“It burns a bit but fine and dandy.”

“You sound like shit,” Eddie sighs, “shit, I hit you hard.”

“Eddie?” he gave you the saddest fucking eyes you’ve seen in a while, you sigh — heart racing at the sight of how sorry he was. “I’m fine.” you had to let him know though, he wouldn’t stop blaming himself if you didn’t reassure him.

“Just… I’ll be right back—“

Eddie gets up to go get the first aid kit, you hope it’s the first aid kit. Or some napkins. “—Don’t get tampons!” you tell him, laughing at your own joke despite the laugh applying pain to your already possibly broken nose. “Fuck, the fuck is Venom made of?” you knew it wasn’t Venom’s fault either, you wondered if the symbiote felt responsible for you hurting too. You heard Venom say your name in a way you’ve only heard Eddie say it: concerningly.

Shortly Eddie came back with a cloth towel. One dry for your nose, a damp one to wipe whatever blood you got on your hands or anywhere else. “Y/N,” you hear Venom again and you smile, “I WANT TO APOLOGIZE—

“—Listen, just…” Eddie wasn’t having it with Venom, they weren’t gone for long but you could tell when they bickered. Eddie got frustrated and huffy, Venom seemed proud but this time Venom just sounded… dejected. Defeated. Ashamed? An odd feeling for the symbiote — and one that you never knew if he’d understand, though he shouldn’t. It was an accident.

You wave Eddie off, letting Venom speak. “I’M SORRY I HURT YOU…” he appeared off of Eddie’s shoulder, you gave him the sweetest smile.

“Vee, it was an accident. You’re okay—“

—BUT YOU ARE NOT!

“The bleeding almost stopped,” you reassure the alien and he looks you up from top to bottom, getting a little to close for comfort but if it helped him make himself feel better you allowed it. “Look… I’m fine. Worst thing to come outta this is a bruise.” Venom keeps his eyes on you, unsure if he was pleased with the tone of your voice  It sounded unsure, like you were slightly scared you might have a broken nose.

Eddie raised an eyebrow as he watched his alien friend interact with Y/N. He hadn’t expected Y/N to be so calm, cool and collected with Venom — he knew she had seen some shit before meeting him, that her dad nearly got killed by the God of Mischief a while back, but it was still… jarring. Aliens? Bonding with people? Sounded like the opposite.

“Listen, Ed, back to the Kasady thing…”

“Y/N—“

“—He killed eleven people…“

“I’ll be fine.” Eddie, whose hand was still on your cheek, looked at you with a smile and patted the side of your cheek. “You, on the other hand, are going to have a wicked bruise.” you roll your eyes and shake your head.

“That Kasady guy is no good news, Eddie…”

“Y/N, I’m gonna be in there for ten minutes max. Nothing more, nothing less… the guards will be there for me.”

“…Okay.”

AW,” Venom hums as he just fully goes back into Eddie, “I LOVE A HAPPY ENDING.

“It’s not a happy ending,” Eddie groaned as he looked at the mess the chickens have made, “there’s feathers all over the god damn apartment.”
