"Your voice…it’s…beautiful," Akito said, then quickly covered his mouth. He hadn't meant to say it out loud.

Akito put on a stupid smile and scratched his hair. "I told you the song was beautiful," he said, hoping he'd dodged a bullet.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

After a tiring soccer practice, they finally had a break. Akito decided to go to the bathroom. No one had noticed his absence anyway.

After splashing water on his face, he looked at himself in the mirror. He really didn't like soccer. He tried to fix his hair that they had used up in sweat.

He was about to go back when a piano sound caught his attention. The music club at their school usually never did any music-related activities. It just said "music club" on paper, but the room or piano was never used.

A pleasant male voice was playing the piano. This voice was truly beautiful. It was like an angel.Or a prince.Or…

Akito was truly mesmerized.

He started to walk to music club room.As he get closer, the sound of the male became clearer. And Akito couldn’t hide his surprise. He leaned against the wall next to the door and just listened to that beautiful voice.

The song was over.Akito wanted to hear more, but even after minutes, all that could be heard from the room was the sound of paper turning and a few piano notes. He hadn't heard the song anywhere before.Akito couldn't just go back to soccer practice at this point. He didn't want to.

Akito almost lost control of his own body. He had to see the owner of this voice. He suddenly opened the door and exchanged glances with the blue-haired boy sitting at the piano across from him. As he had expected, he was handsome. He looked like a prince.

"Excuse me? Or was the room going to be used? I apologize..." the blue-haired boy said in a pleasant tone, embarrassed.

Akito shook his head "No." He tried to put on his best smile.

"No, don't worry." the orange-haired boy chuckled lightly. He closed the door of the room and went inside, looking around after the piano.

Visitors didn't usually come to the music room, so Toya was quite surprised. The orange-haired boy had a pleasant voice. His smile was also quite cute. Toya was very scared when someone suddenly barged in, but luckily there was no problem. The only question was, "What is this boy doing here?" Toya thought. When he realized that he was staring at the boy, he turned his eyes to the music sheet.

"Your voice…it’s…beautiful," Akito said, then quickly covered his mouth. He hadn't meant to say it out loud.

"Yes?" Toya didn't hear what the orange-haired boy whispered.

Akito put on a stupid smile and scratched his hair. "I told you the song was beautiful," he said, hoping he'd dodged a bullet.

Toya wasn't satisfied with this answer. He was sure he had started with "Your voice." Still, he didn't want to embarrass the orange-haired boy.

"Thank you. I wrote it myself." Toya said in a low voice.

"What?! Did you write it all by yourself?!" Akito looked at the boy in front of him in surprise. It was a really beautiful song and this boy wrote it himself?

"Yeah, but it's not that big of a deal, really. I'm just scribbling in my free time." Toya said, looking at his papers.

Akito approached the boy. "Oh. I forgot to introduce myself, Akito Shinonome. Just say Akito."

Toya looked at Akito. "Toya Aoyagi. Just say Toya." he said with a slight smile.

The two of them smiled at each other for a while. It seemed like the beginning of a new friendship. Or...?

Akito started to tell how he heard the song from afar and what he liked about the song...

———

It was dark. Time passed very quickly as the two of them talked. They had pulled chairs from the rows in the room and sat down.

"So you're in the football club?" Toya said.

"I mean, I don't like it very much." Akito said. He was sitting with his legs open with the back of the chair facing forward.

"Then why don't you leave?" Toya asked. He put his hand on his chin and looked at him with curious eyes.

"There's nothing else I can do, really." Akito looked at the floor and started thinking. "By the way, are you in the music club?" He turned his gaze to Toya.

"Oh...I...Yes, I'm in the music club, on paper, I mean."

"I know that the music club doesn't do any activities, they just hang around." Akito put his arms on the head of the chair and leaned his chin on it, looking at Toya.

"Yes. The other members don't really have anything to do with music. They wrote it because they wanted to be seen as in a club. Sometimes they come to the room...When you first came, I thought you were one of them." Toya put his elbow on the table next to him.

"Hmmm I see." Akito looked down at the floor again and started thinking. Could he go to the music club?

Toya looked out the window. It was already dark, so it was quite late. "Damn! What time is it?" Toya thought, and was startled.

"What happened? Are you okay, bro?" Akito asked. Then he wondered if it was right to call someone he had just met "bro".

Toya looked at his watch. He was an hour late getting home. He hadn't even heard Akito's voice because of the tension. His hands started to shake. He turned pale, as if he had seen a ghost.

Akito was quite surprised. "I wonder what happened? What should I do?" he thought.

Akito pulled his chair aside, approached Toya, leaned over and touched his shoulder. "Toya, are you okay?" he asked.

Toya looked at Akito. His green eyes were looking worried. In fact, they looked brighter and nicer when you looked at them up close.

"Heyyy. Toyaaa." Akito shook him slightly. Toya had come to his senses. If that could be called coming to his senses. He still looked like he was about to die of nervousness. "My father... will be very angry when I go home." he managed to say.

"Is that why you were so worried? Was there something important?"

"This is important to my father. Besides, you don't want to see him angry."

"Then... don't go home, for example?" Akito realized that his hand had been on Toya's shoulder for a very long time and pulled his hand away and backed away slightly.

Toya was surprised. "What am I going to do if I don't go home?" he said mockingly.

"You can stay with me," Akito said with a smile.

Inviting someone you just met today to your house was a bit much, and Akito knew it, but Akito strangely felt as if he had known Toya for years.

Toya shook his head, "No." "That will only make him angrier."

Akito's smile faded immediately.

"Nice to meet you Akito. I have to go. See you later." Toya quickly started to pack his things.

"Me too. See you later Toya." Akito said with a fake smile.

Akito didn't usually smile this much. In fact, he never spoke to anyone so friendly. The same goes for Toya. When they talked, Akito was usually the one talking. Toya liked listening. Akito's speech and voice seemed nice, so he listened with pleasure. "What if he sang?" he couldn't help but think.

Akito later realized that he hadn't attended the rest of the soccer practice. He sighed when he realized that he had to go there and get his things back.
