Planning date night was sometimes worse than fighting villains. Between Bakugou and Kirishima’s busy schedules, there was little wiggle room to negotiate times and activities for their monthly date nights.
“What about the 9th?” Kirishima asks from his spot at the dining table with the laptop opened to their shared Google calendar.
Bakugou has been cooking curry in the kitchen since they both got home from their shifts at their hero company.
Bakugou, not looking up from the curry, says, “Can't we have Deku’s dinner party, remember?”
Kirishima made a note of the event in the calendar, “Damn, I forgot. How about the 10th, that’s a Saturday? I think that’s one of the last days we have off together this month.”
They had differing days off for more coverage at their company, for patrols, and helping train new heroes they hired.
“That should work, it’s my turn to plan so we’re going to go laser tagging,” Bakugo had a sly grin on his face as he said this.
“Sounds like a plan,” Kirishima said.
The day of the foretold laser tag date had arrived and Bakugou was feeling cocky.
“So how often have you played laser tag, my love?” Bakugou asked coyly.
Kirishima had an excited expression on his face, “Only a couple of times at classmates' birthday parties but it was really fun!”
They walked into the laser tag area and listened while the attendant talked about the rules, like no running for safety reasons. Kirishima was visibly excited while Bakugou looked smug.
“Let’s split up shall we?” Bakugou asked.
Kirishima looked disappointed, “You don’t want to play together?”
“I thought we could make it a competition to see how many people we could each get out, the loser has to buy dinner.”
Kirishima perked up, the competitiveness he now felt glinting in his eyes, “You're on.”
They separated and began their rains of destruction on their individual sides of the large laser tag arena, full of obstacles. The room had 2 levels with neon strip lights strung throughout the walls providing enough light to play. The floors were carpeted which helped in being stealthy and there was music playing on the overhead speakers.
Bakugou sneakily stalked groups of unaware players who hoped there was strength in numbers but Bakugou quickly took out all 30 of the people on his side of the room. His aim was well practiced as he was used to aiming his bombs at villains during his shifts protecting the city.
Kirishima had a different approach to racking up his “kills”. He set up in a spot that was well-frequented for people who needed a break from the chaos. He shot them as they went by and didn’t see him. They didn’t realize they were out til their vests’ automated voice told them so. He moved from hiding spot to hiding spot until all of the 35 souls on his side of the room were out of the game.
Kirishima and Bakugou reconvened at the exit door.
“So how many hits did you get?” Kiri asked Bakugou.
Bakugou looked smug as he told him how many.
“Unfortunately for you, you’re buying dinner as I hit 35,” Kirishima said grinning.
Bakugou smiled as his fingers with Kiri’s putting them palm to palm, “I’m happy you got so many, I do love treating you to dinner, my love.”
Bakugou loved competition but he loved seeing Kiri’s smile more. He considered this a successful date night as they walked hand in hand down the sidewalk.
