Work Text:
Xiao has never experienced this feeling specifically— to say that he's someone's who's able to process such feelings would be far from the truth. But somehow, he had found a way to convince himself that he had spend enough time with you— he didn't know that if he had pleaded a little, you were willing to stay much more longer in Liyue with him. Instead it leads you to embark on a journey to Fontaine.
When you were away— away from arm length made him wonder on what you were up to; if you were safe while being on an adventure, and whether you've been eating well; if you had missed him as much as he missed you. And his thoughts then would wander to how you and him would fall asleep while being in each other's warmth; as the sky be the witness of both of you— making it seem possible to merge into each other.
After what felt like a decade passed by (when in reality, it has only been a month ever since you departed for Fontaine), he had been counting days on when you would return to Liyue. Xiao was waiting for you— as his mind is reeling with thoughts on what could possibly happen during your journey back; whether you ran into any sort of problem whilst on your way.
"Xiao", you called out tenderly when you've already arrived at Wangshu Inn, and not even a second later; a dark smoke appeared revealing a figure of someone that you've missed so dearly. Wasting no time, he wrapped his arms around you and nuzzled into the crook of your neck— taking in the scent of you that he missed. "I missed you."
"I missed you so badly, how did you fare while being in Fontaine— love? Did you eat well? I hope there's not too much trouble that you come across to while you were there", he mumbled as his voice sound rather muffled while his breath making you shiver slightly as it landed on your neck. And here you realised, there'll be endless questions in store for you— he'll ask details regarding each day that you spent in Fontaine without him.
And you'll willingly explain intricately— as he watched how your eyes lit up with joy whenever you talked about your adventures, and he'll listened patiently even if you find it hard to piece together the sentences on how everything went. By the end of the night, you would be asleep in his arms whilst he stayed awake to keep watch; etching your peaceful face into his memories— to remember your face for a lifetime, and to ease his endless karmic debt.
