Kai looked over at Skylor as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
“What?” Skylor said, as she stirred her tea.
“Nothing,” Kai said quickly, “I just can’t believe we are finally dating.” He reached into his bag of hot Cheetos, before he popped a few in his mouth, spreading red dust everywhere.
“Kai,” Skylor said, rolling her eyes, as she chuckled slightly, “we’ve been dating for 5 months, how can you not believe it?”
“Well,” Kai said, as his face turned as red as his shirt (which was the same color as his gi). “I mean you are like, super hot!”
“But,” Skylor said as she raised her eyebrows. “Am I,” Skylor touched Kai’s hand as she looked straight into his eyes, “this hot.” She held a little ball of fire in her hand, as she brought it towards her tea. The top of the tea bubbles as Kai reached for her hand. Skylor stopped the fire as Kai’s fingers interlaced with hers.
“Oh darling you can do that, but I can do this,” Kai said, as he brought up his other hand to cheek. His hand was warm, and tickled Skylor's face, as she looked into his eyes.
“Why don’t we head back to your place?” Skylor asked, “that way no one calls the fire department.” The fire in her eyes was stronger than any fire Kai had ever produced, as Kai took his hand off Skyler’s face as grabbed her hand, and placed money on the table as he led her out of the restaurant.
Kai’s car was easy to spot in the parking lot. In fact, you probably could have seen it from space. The red paint reflected the sun, casting a glare on Skyler’s eyes. “Must you always drive flashy cars?” Skylor teases, as she ran her hand against the paint.
“If I didn’t,” Kai said, as he released her hand, and walked to the drivers side,” how would you know I’m the best ninja!”
Skylor rolled her eyes as she got into the car, closing the door behind her.
The drive back to the base was ca, as Kai tried his hardest not to look at Skylor while driving. He knew driving made her nervous, especially since she had left the island. He could see her hands grip the fabric on her knees when he made sharp turns, or sped up so fast.
Kai could see the relief in her eyes as he pulled into the driveway.kai parked the car, then looked over to Skylor. “I got you,” Kai said as he rested his hand on her knee. He turned to look into her eyes, as he brought his hand over to her face.
“Skylor,” Kai said in a concerned voice. Skylor opened her eyes, and saw the concern on Kai’s face. “I know, I’ve been here for a while, it just,” her voice shone slightly, “I still remember.”
“I know,” Kai said, as he stroked her cheek, “do you want to drive next time?”
“No,” Skylor said, as her eyes changed from sad to excited with a blink, “but I think I can drive this!” Skylor reached over and grabbed Kai’s face, before pulling him in for a fierce kiss.
Kai was caught by surprise, as Skylors lips hit his. Kai let go of her face and wrapped his hands around her waist. Skylor broke the kiss, as Kai let out a slight whimper at the loss of contact.
“Patient Kai,” Skylor said, “good things come to those who wait.”
