Winter Date

Summary:

When she had read that this winter market was taking place, with rides and a Ferris wheel and various food areas from all over the world, she knew she had to go with Yato...

Work Text:

"Okay, why did you give him so much money? There are stalls with food and sweets everywhere, you know he's going crazy."

Yukine glanced around the area, hoping to find Yato somewhere in this dense crowd of people, before shoving his hands in his pockets, annoyed that he hadn't put on gloves. It really was colder than he thought, he was just waiting for the snow.

Hiyori, who was standing close to him, sighed softly and took a step forward in the line that led to a stall selling hot drinks.

"I can already hear him whining that he'd rather have a beer! Why are you bringing him anything at all? I'm sure he's sitting somewhere stuffing his belly with the things he bought with your money."

Hiyori giggled and shook her head.

"He knows I can't buy him beer yet because I'm too young and I'm sure he'll bring us something Yukine-kun. Come on, I was so looking forward to this evening, stop nagging. I'll get the three of us something warm to drink now and then we'll look for him if he doesn't come here, ok? Or I'll call him."

A few minutes later, the blond boy was handed a cup filled with a hot, dark red liquid that smelled sweet and delicious.

"So, have you seen Yato anywhere?"

"No, not yet, but he's probably been gone for 20 minutes, so hopefully he'll be back soon!"

He blew into his cup and took a sip. The stuff was really tasty, so nice and warm.

"Thank you Hiyori for inviting me here today. I actually thought you two wouldn't want to take me with you."

She felt the heat rising in her cheeks and turned away from Yukine a little, hoping he wouldn't see. When she had read that this winter market was taking place, with rides and a Ferris wheel and various food areas from all over the world, she knew she had to go with Yato. He had been so excited when she had suggested it to him earlier in the week that he had reminded her every day. Hiyori had to admit that she had been dreaming of a date with him. This market would have suited her too well, but of course she wouldn't and couldn't rule out Yukine.

"O-oh no, what makes you think that!"

She took a sip herself and grimaced. It tasted good, but somehow...

Meanwhile, Yukine had almost finished his cup and felt a pleasant warmth spreading through his body.

"Well, if the tracksuit aren't here right away, I'll drink his cup too! Then he's out of luck, but the stuff certainly won't taste good cold!"

"Hmm, you could be right, but tell me Yukine-kun... don't you think it tastes a bit weird?"

"Weird? It's delicious!"

Hiyori smelled Yato's cup, which she held in her other hand, before taking a small sip, but she couldn't tell the difference.

"Yes, I like it too, but somehow I remembered it differently."

"Maybe it's a different recipe to last year's, whatever. Mine's empty, come on I'll take his cup off you so you can drink in peace."

"Hiyyyyyooooooriiiiiiiiii!!!!!"

Yato made his way through the crowd, grinning broadly. His jacket pockets were bulging with sweets and in his hand he held three portions of deep-fried dough sticks dipped in sugar or chocolate.

"Don't tell me that's the only reason you took so long!"

Yukine had emptied half of Yato's portion of the punch and somehow he felt a little dizzy and also a little sick to his stomach. The stuff was also so sweet that he didn't feel like having any more sugar. He would have preferred something savory and maybe some water.

"What do you mean forever! Take a look around and see what's going on here, I was only at two stalls and had a hard time that people even noticing me in the crowd.
But I've brought us something for that, here!"

He lifted the pastry under the blond's nose, who accepted it somewhat skeptically.

"Don't look like that, I'm sure you'll like it! What are you drinking? Is there anything else for me?"

"Oh, I got us some punch, but you're a bit late. Yukine wanted your cup too, it's probably empty by now."

Hiyori was also handed some food by Yato, which she gratefully accepted before turning her head to the blond, who suddenly didn't look well at all.

"Yukine-kun? Are you ok? You're suddenly all pale!"

"Wait, what's that punch you're..."

Yato literally snatched her cup out of Hiyori's hand and drank the now almost cold liquid in one go.

"Hiyori!!! There's alcohol in it, you can't give that to our boy!"

"What are you talking about? I didn't order anything with alcohol!"

"Oh and why is Yukine totally drunk then?"

Yukine staggered back and forth a few steps. He felt so damn sick and dizzy, he didn't even know what was going on, and he was seeing double.

"Yato, i'm thirsty, i need some water please..."

Hiyori looked excitedly back and forth between the two boys. That's why it had tasted so different. Someone must have accidentally mixed up the cups. She felt so sorry for Yukine. She didn't notice much of the alcohol herself, except that she was a little hungrier and quite warm.

The God sighed and grabbed the bridge of his nose.

"Okay, before you throw up here, I'd better take you back to Kofuku. You can sober up there and Daikoku will make you something to eat!"

"I'm sorry Yukine-kun! I didn't know there was alcohol in there, but Yato's right. You'd better go home!"

"I'm coming back here Hiyori! There's still so much I want to eat and besides, we wanted to go for a ride on the Ferris wheel! Just wait for me for a few minutes ok? I'll be right back!"

"Oh ok...! Well then, get well soon Yukine-kun. See you tomorrow."

The two disappeared in a bright light and Hiyori brought the cups back to the stand. Although she felt guilty that she was more or less to blame for his condition, her heart was beating much faster at the thought of being able to spend the rest of the evening alone with Yato. She bit into the dough sticks that Yato had given her with relish and watched the many people looking at the glittering lights that shone colorfully from every corner and listening to the soft, atmospheric music.
Children were jumping around and couples were throwing amorous glances or feeding each other all kinds of treats. It was a wonderful atmosphere and she couldn't wait until...

Finally, her phone rang and displayed his name. She took the call and not a second later he was standing in front of her again.

"Hiyori, do me a favor. Next time just say when you want to be alone with me instead of giving yukine alcohol and putting him out of action."

"Yato! I didn't..."

"You didn't do that on purpose, I know. Still, I just had to give half of the candy I pocketed to Kofuku and Daikoku so they could take care of him. Tell me, how are you actually doing?"

He leaned towards her, so close that their noses were only a few centimetres apart, and looked so deeply into her eyes that her knees went weak. Her gaze held his, but then wandered uncontrollably to his lips. Did he taste as heavenly as he smelled? She would love a kiss, she would love to touch his soft lips with hers and banish the shame of Fujisaki from her mind once and for all.

"You have red cheeks too, Hiyori. If you're not feeling well either, I'll take you home."

She flinched and widened her eyes further before pulling away from him a little.

"I'm fine. Let's just walk around a bit, where do you want to go?"

"Okay, whatever you say. There are still a few areas I'd like to visit. Come on..."

He reached for her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers.

"That you don't get lost ok?"

She nodded and let him pull her along and of course he was all excited again, enjoying all kinds of little things like the colorful figures with lights or the cotton candy in rainbow colors that was sold, including to him of course. Hiyori simply enjoyed being with him. He hadn't let go of her hand once so far, not even when he was eating the sticky sweet, but now she was hungry herself and the stand with the takoyaki balls particularly appealed to her. So they decided to step in the the queue there.

The evening slowly progressed and she was getting colder, she should have put on a thicker jacket.

"Tell me, are you cold? You're shivering a bit. If you want to go home, just let me know."

"Yes, a little, but we can stay a little longer. When I'm moving around it's fine, but it's a bit mean waiting now. So you don't freeze in your tracksuit!"

"Nahh, you know me! I've survived colder nights in them before. Wait a minute."

Now he did let go of her hand, which she almost regretted a little, because at least it gave her something to hold onto.

She thought he was going to unzip his jacket, but...

"Yato, leave your jacket on I..."

She suddenly felt him behind her, his arms went around her stomach and her back pressed against his torso, which made her flinch in surprise and made him flinch right back.

"Oh, I'm sorry if you don't want that!"

"No!"

She turned her head a little towards him and looked into his red face.

"No, it's okay. I just wasn't expecting you to..."

"Okay, so can I?"

"Mhm..."

Hiyori's heart was pounding in her throat as she felt him hug her again. And he didn't seem to feel any differently. She could feel it, the hammering of his heart, but she enjoyed it and leaned back against him a little more. Her hands moved to his, resting on her stomach, and she intertwined their fingers again. They could no longer deny it. Something had changed, they hadn't been this close before. Yato had always been affectionate, but like this...

Hiyori felt his breath on her ear, breathed in his scent that completely enveloped her and inwardly wished that a few more people would wait in line in front of them so that she could savor this intimate moment with him even longer, but unfortunately..."

"Hello? Are you listening to me? What do you want?"

"Eh?"

She was startled out of her thoughts and raised her head to look into the face of the man in the stall. Was it her turn already?

Yato laughed and brushed his lips lightly against her ear, giving her goose bumps.

"It's your turn Hiyori."

"Ahhh, uhh yes!!! Sorry, I'll have two servings please!"

"All right!!!"

Unfortunately, to pay, she had to let go of Yato completely, much to her disappointment. She took the two bowls of squid balls and followed Yato, who happened to have found a free seat at one of the tables. Finally sitting down for a while, her back was starting to hurt.

"Thank you Hiyori, for the invitation today and the food, oh and the sweets and drinks!!!"

"Yes, yes, that's fine! I was happy to do it."

She popped a takoyaki into her mouth and looked at Yato's grinning face.

"Well you know, I just see it as an offering."

Hiyori rolled her eyes and swallowed before the next ball went into her mouth. She was really hungry!

"Well, with the amount I "sacrificed" to you today, I do have one free wish!"

"A wish? You have a wish? You haven't had a wish for a long time!"

"What? Oh no, actually I just said that."

She noticed how she was blushing again. Almost a permanent condition that evening.

"Oh come on, I don't believe you! You must have some kind of wish! My offer is only valid tonight! Tomorrow it will cost you 5 yen again! So think it over carefully!"

Hiyori sighed and had to stifle a laugh.

"You're really making me poor. All right, I'll think about it while we're still here and you'd better eat now, otherwise I'll have your portion too!"

"Ok and then? What else do you want to do Hiyori?"

"Mhm...you really wanted to go on the Ferris wheel, didn't you? Then let's do that before we go!"

The market closed in just under three quarters of an hour, so they didn't have to queue very long before they could enter one of the closed cabins of the Ferris wheel, and fortunately they could do so in pairs, as there was a family with children waiting behind them, occupying one of the gondolas on their own. Yato sat down opposite Hiyori and watched as she rubbed her hands together for a moment.

"You're still cold, aren't you? Wouldn't you like my jacket after all? Or would you like me to sit next to you?"

"Yes, that would be nice. Leave your jacket on, otherwise you'll catch a cold."
Yato smiled at her and noticed how the Ferris wheel was already starting to turn, so he stood up and dropped down next to her before carefully putting an arm around her shoulder. Hiyori turned a little towards him so that she could look out of the large window and leaned her head against his shoulder. Her hands found each other again of their own accord and for a moment she ignored the urge to close her eyes. It was so quiet in this gondola, she heard and felt his soft breathing, his rapid heartbeat and the squeaking and cracking that the Ferris wheel made from time to time. Yato was so warm, she felt her tiredness and noticed how her eyes grew heavy the more they wandered over the colorful lights of the city. A breathtaking view that she didn't often get to see. Hiyori felt his thumb tracing small circles over the back of her hand and a slight jolt as the wheel came to a brief stop and the cabin shook a little.

After that, it was so quiet that she could hear her heart beating in her ears. Yato didn't move an inch, but his breath tickled her neck and slowly she could think of nothing but his soft lips. She sighed softly and whispered his name before moving slightly and turning her head towards him.

"Mmm?"

He was already so close to her that she stopped thinking, closed her eyes and gave in to her desire. She leaned just an inch towards him and pressed her mouth gently against his. He flinched a little and she suddenly lost her courage, so she pulled away from him again and looked into his wide eyes, which gazed at her in surprise. Hiyori wanted to say something, but couldn't find the words and just continued to stare at him. It shook again and the wheel continued to turn and finally Yato seemed to have arrived in reality. He put his hand to her cheek and traced her lower lip with his thumb before leaning in and kissing her again. His lips were warm and soft and it wasn't long before he opened his mouth slightly. She let him guide her and did the same until she felt his tongue gently touching hers. It was a wonderful and incredible feeling that she wanted more of. So her arms went around his neck and she enjoyed the intense kiss until she had to break away to catch her breath.

Her forehead leaned against his and her fingers nuzzled his neck.

"Okay, wow."

Yato grinned a little and breathed another kiss on her lips.

"I could get used to that. What do you think?"

She smiled and moved her hands to his cheeks.

"To be honest, that's my biggest wish at the moment."

"Ohh, so a wish after all?"

"Yes. I want to be able to kiss you a lot more often and not just that...I..."

She swallowed, looking at him, his shining eyes almost hopeful on her. He was so sweet when he looked at her so sheepishly.

"God..., I love you Hiyori!"

She was surprised that those words just burst out of him like it was completely normal. Had she just heard right? Hiyori beamed at him and shook her head in disbelief.

"Hey, that's what I was just going to say. I've fallen in love with you too, Yato, and I can't suppress my feelings anymore.

"You don't need to anymore. I'm only too happy to fulfill your wish."

Their lips found each other again and didn't part until the Ferris wheel stopped because the ride was over.

"Let's go home, shall we?"

He took her hand and got out with her before pausing for a moment.

"So you bottled Yukine on purpose, huh?"

He laughed, but fell silent when he looked at her grinning face.

"A little, maybe."

"Hiyori!!!"
