Chapter Text
The last time I saw Sinclair this despondent was at the beginning of our friendship, just two years prior. At that time, he and Natalie were going through the divorce. I remember it all too well: It truly was a convoluted issue.
The solicitors were stuck in the middle. He wanted a non-contested divorce; she kept dragging it for months. He knew he had the power to sully her reputation. He could’ve chosen to reveal the true reason behind the divorce: Richard - Natalie’s younger brother - whom she had a torrid affair with during the summer of 2022. Sinclair eventually decided against it. It stood against his principles, for he had no desire to become the lesser of two evils. The entire process took a mental toll on him. For all the years I’ve known him, I had never seen him this despondent.
He’s the epitome of a happy-go-lucky individual. He has the life most people desire to have: Born into privilege, had a relatively normal childhood, attended the best boarding schools, took multiple vacations abroad, a successful career in business, owning fancy cars, and a sprawling manor in Watford.
Not to mention the wealth he inherited from his grandfather. But most importantly, he has a heart of gold. To the rest of the world, he is perceived as obnoxious, sanctimonious, exhibiting potential signs of undiagnosed ADHD. Despite all that, all I see is a man who is passionate about anything and everything. A kind hearted man, with a childlike spirit. A man who has so much love to give, but was taken away from the one person he thought he had trusted.
Natalie was the one at fault. She knew her actions would have consequences, severe ones if her secret had been revealed. Not only had she gone against the sanctity of marriage, she knowingly committed a crime. What’s truly terrifying is that she clearly lacked an ounce of remorse. I still remember the day we first met…
