Work Text:
Lily pulled out the next card. "We're gettin' a lil' spicy, who here has kissed a coworker?"
"Not sure I'd call that spicy." remarked Grant from behind the bar
Adam immediately leaned back on the couch and said, " Easy. Michelle." Then took a sip of his drink. "And that's my official guess."
"Hey, you can't just guess whose secret it is right now!" Michelle said back indignantly.
"I mean I have to side with Adam here." Ben smiled. "I just assume they made you kiss your coworkers all the time at Buzzfeed."
"Buzzfeed may have had...problems, but it wasn't that bad."
"Look three of us have only worked at a company that's more or less the opposite of Buzzfeed."
"I wouldn't say Wendover and Buzzfeed have no similarities," Sam chimed in.
"Anyway," Adam went on, "A not insignificant portion of Wendover's employees are in this room right now. It literally could only be you, Michelle. I know all of Ben's internships pre-Wendover were remote. "
"That's true." Ben nodded.
"Don't you think that your collective work experience would have crossed my mind and I wouldn't put a secret like that in. "
"Or maybe" Adam countered, "You thought we would think it's so obvious that we would over think it and not think it was you ."
"We're getting way to meta here." Lily gestured with her stack of cards, "I don't think you all have considered the kissing doesn't have to have been at an office job. It could have been, for example, a fellow lifeguard at a summer camp..."
"Does that really make sense?" added Sam sort of quietly, "Would you really call that person a coworker when you're like a teen?"
"See exactly!" Adam interjected, "Michelle's the only one here with multiple adult jobs."
"I know everything is pointing at me, but it has to be something else. Adam you've had, you know, internships and Ben's worked somewhere with live people somewhere at some point...probably!"
"You are really getting more and more desperate here Michelle," Ben said shaking his head, "Not a good look."
"And you two teaming up against me is such a good look? And who knows?" Michelle gestured wildly between Ben and Adam. "Maybe at the end of this both of you will take a sip."
Adam choked on his drink at that and Ben started laughing awkwardly.
Grant chuckled, "At least I wasn't the only one thinking..."
Michelle suddenly realized the implication. "No I didn't mean that you guys- not that you two- just you both could have kissed a coworker. At different times! Different people too!"
"I think that's about as far as we should let this go." Lily took a breath. "Get your guesses in now! Sam?"
"Adam. Who knows what those Daily Show interns got up to." Sam said with a slight smirk.
"Adam I guess" Michelle sighed.
"Basically everything's pointing to Michelle."
"Michelle, easiest point of the whole game," Adam said smugly.
"Can whoever kissed a coworker take a sip of their drink?"
Sam went for his drink slowly. Adam started saying quietly, "No, no, no." Until the drink was up to Sam's mouth.
He sat there grinning in Ben and Adam's direction; until Lily said, "Alright Sam to get the points we need to hear some details."
Sam's face quickly changed. "Uh remember that time I was stuck with those other guides at my summer job..." He took another sip of his drink. "I think you can figure it out from there."
"Of course," said Grant, "It's like something out an two hundred year old erotic novel. The only thing on that island to eat were lobsters... and each other."
Sam quickly added, "Just to be clear, there was no cannibalism involved."
Michelle burst out laughing, "I told you it wasn't me!"
Adam was in disbelief. "I never thought in a million years it could be Sam."
"I can't believe you submitted that secret," Ben said shaking his head.
"Well, I'm nothing if not competitive. It pretty easily got me the points"
"The points are whatever. I'm just happy to learn that you've actually kissed someone."
"Hey!" Sam yelled.
