Precipice

Summary:

“What do you want from me?” Jayce’s voice was barely a whisper, his lips tingling from the contact.

Viktor’s eyes softened just slightly, a flicker of something vulnerable breaking through his usual coldness. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by that same burning intensity. “What do you want from me, Jayce?” he asked, his voice thick with something far more raw than frustration. “What are you willing to risk to get what you want?”

Work Text:

The laboratory was unusually quiet—too quiet. Jayce’s eyes were bloodshot and dry from hours of work, the constant hum of the machines around him doing little to drown out the thoughts swirling in his mind. For the past hour, he had been pacing around the workspace, glancing at half-finished projects and piles of scattered hextech components, but something about the stillness felt wrong. The usual rhythm of their work together had been disrupted, and Jayce couldn’t shake the feeling that he was teetering on the edge of something—something that neither he nor Viktor was ready to face. From across the room, Viktor’s mechanical arm clicked as he adjusted the calibration on one of the components. The sound, repetitive and precise, filled the space. Then, it happened.

A sudden clang echoed sharply through the room as Viktor’s elbow accidentally knocked a wrench off the workbench, the tool hitting the floor with a metallic thud. Jayce jumped at the sound, his frustration bubbling up. He had been on edge all night, and the disruption was just enough to push him over the limit. He turned towards his partner sharply, his eyes narrowing.

“Viktor,” Jayce said, his voice a little louder than he intended. “Can you please be more careful?”

Viktor’s head snapped up, his eyes narrowing, though the expression was not one of guilt. Instead, it was the look of someone who had been interrupted—who had been given no room to breathe. “It was an accident, Jayce. I don’t need you to lecture me on precision.”

The words stung, and Jayce’s jaw tightened. He stepped closer to Viktor’s workbench, not just to retrieve the dropped tool but to close the space between them. “An accident? The whole project has been one ‘accident’ after another because you don’t think before you act!”

Viktor’s lips curled into a thin line. “And you’re too busy overthinking everything. What good is caution when progress stagnates?”

Jayce shook his head, the irritation turning into something darker. “This isn’t about stagnation. This is about not killing someone because we’re rushing to get results!”

Viktor’s hand slammed down onto the workbench, the force causing the table to rattle. “You think I don’t care about people’s lives?” His voice, usually cool and controlled, now trembled with barely contained frustration. “You think that I’m reckless? I’m trying to build something that can save lives, Jayce. And if I don’t take risks, we’ll never get anywhere.”

Jayce’s heart raced at the emotion in Viktor’s voice. He hadn’t heard Viktor this passionate in a long time. Years, even. But the words—reckless—they hit a nerve. “No, Viktor,” Jayce’s voice grew more intense. “You’re so obsessed with your ‘vision’ that you don’t see the cost of it. You’re too focused on the future and not the people in front of you right now.”

A cold silence settled between them as Viktor stepped forward, his eyes now fixed on Jayce with a sharpness that sent a shiver down his spine.

“The people in front of me?” Viktor repeated, his voice lowering to a dangerous growl. “The ones who would rather stay comfortable in their ignorance, content with their mediocrity? That’s who you’re fighting for, Jayce?”

Jayce swallowed hard, feeling the weight of Viktor’s gaze. “I’m fighting for the people who can’t afford to be part of your experiment,” he said, his tone cold, but his heart thundering in his chest. “Not everyone can risk their lives for your ‘greater good,’ Viktor. Some of us have to live with the consequences.”

Viktor’s face flushed red with anger, his lips parted as if to reply—but instead, he moved swiftly, his mechanical arm reaching out and pulling Jayce closer by the collar of his shirt. The motion was sudden and forceful, and Jayce’s breath caught in his throat, the closeness making his pulse spike and his heart race.

“You think you understand the cost of it?” Viktor’s voice was low and ragged now, and Jayce could feel the heat radiating off him. “You don’t know what it’s like to sacrifice everything. You don’t know what it’s like to make a choice between progress and everything you’ve ever cared about. You have been privileged, Jayce”

Jayce’s throat was dry, his heart hammering in his chest, but he stood his ground. He met Viktor’s gaze with a fierceness of his own, even as the proximity between them began to feel unbearably intense. “And you think I don’t? You think I’m not sacrificing everything by staying here, by believing in what we’re doing? I care about this project too, Viktor. I care about you,” he added, his words slipping out before he could stop them.

Viktor froze, the words hanging in the air between them like a spark waiting to ignite.

Jayce had never said it out loud. Not like this. Not with that level of honesty and vulnerability. But now that it was out there, it felt like the room had shifted into something new, the air growing thick with something more than just their heated argument.

Viktor’s grip on Jayce’s collar loosened slightly, though he didn’t let go. The tension in his eyes deepened, and his voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “You care about me, Jayce?” His lips were dangerously close to Jayce’s ear, his breath warm against his skin. “Is that why you’re always so quick to dismiss me? So quick to judge me?”

Jayce could feel his own breath quicken at Viktor’s nearness. His mind raced, but in that moment, all he could focus on was the heat of Viktor’s body so close to his own. He wanted to move, to say something, but his mouth was dry. Then, with a suddenness that took Jayce off guard, Viktor slapped him across the face. The sting of the contact left Jayce momentarily stunned, his vision blurry for a fraction of a second. The force was shocking, raw, but it wasn’t the physical pain that rattled him. It was the emotion behind it—the heat in Viktor’s eyes, the challenge in his posture, the unspoken demand in the way he held Jayce’s gaze.

Jayce’s heart pounded, and despite the sting on his cheek, he could feel his body reacting to the unrelenting pull between them. For a moment, neither of them moved. Viktor’s breath was heavy, and Jayce’s pulse was erratic, but neither was willing to look away. Their faces were so close now that Jayce could feel the warmth of Viktor’s skin, could hear the sharpness of his breaths. The air between them felt charged, as if they were standing on the precipice of something far more dangerous than a disagreement.

“What do you want from me?” Jayce’s voice was barely a whisper, his lips tingling from the contact.

Viktor’s eyes softened just slightly, a flicker of something vulnerable breaking through. But it was gone as quickly as it came, replaced by that same burning intensity. “What do you want from me, Jayce?” he asked, his voice thick with something far more raw than frustration. “What are you willing to risk to get what you want?”

The words hung in the air, heavy with possibility.

Jayce didn’t have an answer. Not yet.

But the moment between them was no longer just about hextech or progress or ideology. It was about them—the unbearable tension that had always simmered beneath the surface. And for the first time in a long while, Jayce wondered what might happen if they finally let it explode. For the sake of science, he decided to find out. Every breath between them was shallow, charged with the electric anticipation of what was about come. Jayce’s body was trembling now, not just from the intensity of Viktor’s touch, but from the overwhelming rush of emotion, the longing that had been building for years, about to break free. He could feel the heat radiating off Viktor, every inch of his skin craving the touch that Viktor had held just out of reach for far too long.

Viktor’s lips hovered just above Jayce’s, his breath mingling with his, the sharp scent of metal and sweat in the air as he leaned closer. His fingers, shaking with barely-contained desire, traced the curve of Jayce’s jaw, before dipping down to tug the fabric of his shirt loose, exposing the warm skin beneath.

Jayce’s heart was pounding, but it wasn’t fear or uncertainty that held him—it was the heat, the raw desire coursing through his veins, making his thoughts scatter. He didn’t want to hold back anymore. Not now. Not when Viktor was so close, so near, his lips only inches from his, the warmth of Viktor’s body pressing up against his own.

"I want this," Viktor’s voice rasped, low and rough, as though the words themselves were torn from him with effort. His hand slid down the side of Jayce’s neck, fingers tightening into his skin. "Want you, Jayce, more than you’ll ever understand." His lips crushed into Jayce’s before Jayce could respond, the kiss deep, hot, insistent.

Jayce gasped into the kiss, the burning fire of Viktor’s mouth on his sending shudders through his body. He reached up, his hands pulling Viktor closer, his fingers threading through Viktor’s hair, desperate to feel more. The world around them seemed to blur into a haze of heat and sensation, the walls of the laboratory vanishing as if they had never existed.
Viktor’s lips moved down Jayce’s neck, sucking and nipping at his skin with a wildness that left Jayce gasping for air. Every bite, every tender press of Viktor’s mouth left a trail of fire in its wake, igniting every nerve, every inch of skin. Jayce’s head fell back, his breath ragged, unable to hold back the moans that escaped him. The sensation of Viktor’s hands, his lips, his body—each touch, each movement, was a promise he’d been waiting for.

“God, Viktor,” Jayce groaned, his hands fumbling to strip away the layers of fabric that stood between them. His body was desperate, alive with the heat of Viktor’s touch, each kiss drawing him in deeper, each second pushing him toward something irreversible. "I need you—need this."

Viktor’s lips lifted from Jayce’s skin, his eyes dark and hungry. The heat in his gaze burned through Jayce, making his heart race even faster. He saw the same need reflected in Jayce’s eyes—the same desperation, the same hunger for something they’d never let themselves touch before. Viktor reached down, his hands sliding beneath Jayce’s shirt, his fingers brushing across his chest, tracing the hard lines of muscle with a mixture of reverence and raw desire. Jayce’s body reacted instantly, a shock of pleasure running through him at Viktor’s touch. His hands gripped Viktor’s shoulders, pulling him closer, pulling him into him, as if trying to fuse their bodies together, as if there was no space left between them.

Jayce’s lips found Viktor’s once more, their mouths clashing in a kiss that was less about tenderness and more about the frantic need to connect, to be lost in each other. Jayce’s hands moved down Viktor’s chest, feeling the heat of his body through the fabric of his shirt, and then lower still, tracing the lines of Viktor’s abdomen. Viktor groaned, his own hands moving with equal urgency, slipping under Jayce’s shirt, his fingers brushing against the smooth skin, feeling the heat of him, the taut muscles, the racing pulse beneath his fingertips.
The tension between them was unbearable now. Viktor’s lips pulled away from Jayce’s mouth, his breath coming in harsh gasps as he moved to Jayce’s neck, his lips finding that sensitive spot just below his ear, biting down softly. Jayce gasped, his back arching as Viktor’s teeth sank into his skin, sending waves of heat crashing through him. Every touch, every kiss was a spark that lit him up from the inside out.

“You’re mine, Jayce,” Viktor growled, the words rough and full of possessive need. He pressed Jayce against the cold metal of the workbench, his body aligning with Jayce’s, the heat between them suffocating. "I’ve wanted this… you… for so long.”

Jayce could barely respond, his mind spinning, his body humming with desire. The sound of Viktor’s voice, low and commanding, only stoked the fire inside him, urging him to move faster, to lose himself in this moment. “Please, Viktor,” Jayce gasped, his voice shaking with the need that was flooding through him. “Don’t stop. Don’t ever stop.”

The words seemed to break something in Viktor. His hands moved faster now, ripping away the remaining layers of clothing between them with a ruthlessness that matched Jayce’s own desperate need. His lips were on Jayce’s neck again, marking him, leaving his mark on the skin that was now drenched in sweat and desire. Jayce’s hands gripped Viktor’s back, his nails digging into the hard muscle beneath the fabric, urging him closer, closer, until there was nothing left between them but skin and heat and the overwhelming need that had been building for so long.
Their bodies pressed together in a fevered rush, every touch, every kiss, a statement of what they both had wanted but never dared to say. The urgency was palpable now, the tension between them a storm that had finally broken free, each kiss, each caress, a promise of something deeper, something more than they had ever imagined.

Jayce couldn’t think. His mind was spinning, his body on fire with the relentless heat of Viktor’s touch. “Viktor,” he moaned, the sound breaking free from deep within him. “I can’t—can’t hold back anymore.”

Viktor’s hand slid down Jayce’s body, his fingers tracing every curve, every muscle, and then dipping lower, drawing out a gasp from Jayce as he felt Viktor’s touch become even more intimate, more intense. “Let go, Jayce,” Viktor whispered against his lips, his voice low and hoarse. “Let me have you. Let us have this.”

And with those words, everything that had been held back for so long shattered. The barrier between them—the one that had kept them both in check, that had kept them from crossing the line—was gone. There was only Viktor and Jayce, their bodies tangled together in a frenzy of passion and heat, their connection deeper than anything they had ever shared before. The lab around them faded away, leaving only the two of them, caught in the fire that had finally consumed them.
