Work Text:
I lie there in the hospital bed trying to regain my memories from last night. I slowly piece together the events that happened as I slowly raise my hand to my face feeling an eyepatch there instead. I sit up quickly trying to get up to find Basil. As I sit up I get dizzy from low iron and moving up too quickly so I fall back onto the hospital's flat cold pillow. After a minute I slowly sit up holding onto the table by the bedside and stand up. I look around my surroundings and see other unused beds with tables by them. I look at my table to see a vase with flowers from Basil's caretaker. As I look around, something in the corner of the room catches my eye. It was a crutch! I’d seen Mari use them when she had injured her knee. That was a while ago. The memories of her make me sad. I push the feelings down and walk over to the crutch a bit wobbly cause I'm not used to walking with only one eye so my balance is off. As I reach the crutch I put it under my left arm attempting to figure out how it works. After a few minutes of struggling, I finally figured out how to properly walk with it so I walked to the door. As I open the door I'm greeted with bright hospital lights and loud bustling sounds, people walking, machines beeping, coughing, talking. It's all too loud for me but I push through trying to find somebody who could take me to Basil’s room. I walk around until a young lady I would assume in her mid 20’s walks up to me.
