Axel was surprised that they were actually going through with what they were about to do. Axel had never been one to take on a dare, especially one that involved something filled with myth.
It started with a simple conversation at the coffee shop that they frequented. Kairi and Riku were talking about something that Axel wasn’t quite paying attention to, while Sora was flipping through some sort of magazine.
“What’cha got there?” Axel asked, snatching the booklet out of the brunette’s hands.
“Hey, give that back!” Sora pouted, reaching across the table in an attempt to grab the magazine away from Axel, but was unsuccessful as Axel held the booklet away from him, flipping through the pages.
“You’re into paranormal stuff?” Axel glanced at Sora before turning their attention back to the pages.
Sora’s face was burning hot, but Axel ignored it as they focused on images of Dracula and other vampires they knew nothing about. “Seriously? Vampires? They aren't real, you know.”
“Look, just please give it back,” Sora mumbled, which made Axel feel bad for teasing him. They dropped the magazine back down on the table and waved their hand dismissively.
“There you go. No need to get so embarrassed.”
“Axel, don't be so mean,” Kairi scolded, and Axel grinned sheepishly.
“I'm not mean. I'll have you know I'm actually a pretty nice person. I volunteer at the animal shelter.”
“That was one time, and it was only because you were trying to get with that weirdo. Demyx?” Riku chimed in. “It doesn't necessarily count.”
“Yes, it does. Don't be jealous that I'm a better person than you.” Axel turned their attention back to Sora, who resumed looking through his magazine before landing on a specific page and turning it towards the redhead.
“If vampires aren't real, then explain this,” he countered, his usual goofy grin plastered back on his face.
Axel's emerald eyes grazed over the words of the article with a look of skepticism.
The article went on about an abandoned mansion and rumors of a vampire residing deep within it. Something about people going in and never coming back out. Axel knew where that mansion was. It wasn't too far out of town. Sure, they've heard of some weird things happening there in the past, but that didn't make it true.
“People will do anything to entertain themselves. How do you know that's real?” Axel’s eyes left the paper and landed back on the brunette who was still staring at them with determination.
“It is true! I had a friend who had a friend who knew someone that went to that mansion. There's still a missing poster about them floating around.”
“Bullshit,” Axel countered, crossing their arms, leaning back on the seat, and raising an eyebrow.
“It's true,” Riku piped up with a small grin. “I remember when it happened. Made the news and everything.”
“Riku, don't entertain this,” Axel said, rolling their eyes.
“Well, if you don't believe us, then why not check it out yourself.” Riku was definitely trying to get under Axel's skin, and it was working. Sora’s eyes went wide, and he looked between Riku and Axel and then to Kairi, as if waiting for her to say something.
Kairi just shrugged her shoulders and pushed away from the table, standing up and slinging her purse over her shoulder. “I got to get to dance practice. I’ll see you tomorrow at school.” She grabbed her coffee and walked out, leaving the three behind.
Axel was staring up at the old, eerie-looking mansion with their phone in their hand and Sora and Riku on video chat.
“This is the place, right?” Axel turned the camera, so the other two could see what they were looking at. “Also, why didn’t you come with me, again? This is a little unfair.”
“Yeah, that’s it!” Sora said, a little too excited for Axel’s taste.
“You know we couldn’t go with you. That would ruin the point of the dare,” Riku’s voice came through the phone. Axel turned the camera back to look at his amused expression.
“I’m only doing this to prove to you that this is a bunch of bullshit. So, technically, it’s not a dare.”
“Whatever helps you sleep at night,” Riku smirked, and Axel rolled their eyes.
“Whatever. You’re staying on video call with me, though. Whether you like it or not. If you hang up, I’ll just blow your phone up. Figuratively and literally.”
Axel started towards the entrance, trudging through mud and tall grass. A small squeak startled them, making Axel jump slightly as a little field mouse ran past their combat boots.
“Scared?” Riku questioned smugly.
“Nah, just don’t like rodents.” Axel wasn’t going to have Riku get the upper hand.
“You know,” Sora started, sounding concerned, “you don’t have to do this. You can just turn around and forget about it.”
“And miss your faces when I prove that this is all fake? Not a chance.”
Axel wasn’t sure if the door was open. The handle was full of cobwebs and the door looked as though someone had tried to break it down at some point with an axe, or something. Using the sleeve of their jacket, Axel jiggled the handle and was surprised to find it unlocked. The door creaked loudly, and they turned on their flashlight on their phone. The beam of light flooded through the opening and Axel peeked their head in cautiously, glancing around.
The entrance was bare with a long staircase that led upstairs. It was extremely quiet and cold and Axel couldn’t contain the sneeze that erupted from the dust in the air.
“Maybe you should get out. This was dumb, anyway.” Sora’s voice echoed off of Axel’s phone, bouncing off the walls.
“Shh, too late now, Sora,” Axel responded in a whisper. They stepped further into the mansion, not shutting the door all the way, but leaving a small crack, just in case they had to leave in a hurry. It was better to be safe than sorry.
The flashlight on Axel’s phone ran over the walls, where pictures hung. They were so coated with dust, that it was impossible to make out what was once on them.
Hesitantly, Axel stepped into what looked to be a living room. Furniture covered in white sheets was scattered about and it made the whole ‘haunted’ mansion even spookier.
“This place is nice. With a little fixing up, I could see myself living here,” Axel joked quietly, still scanning the area with the flashlight. “I don’t see anything here. How long do I have to be here for?”
“You barely even went into the entire place. Go upstairs,” Riku responded, resulting in a groan from the redhead.
“I don’t even know if the stairs are safe to step on.”
“Someone sounds scared,” Riku teased, and Axel sighed.
“I really hate you, you know that? Sora, how are you friends with him?”
“I ask myself that often,” Sora teased, resulting in a light jab from Riku, causing Sora to squeak.
Axel turned around and headed towards the stairs, the floor creaking underneath their boots. Examining them, some steps seemed to be missing parts of them, and others seemed to have cracks in the wood.
“If I die, neither of you are invited to my funeral.” Axel lifted their leg and tested the first step. It creaked, but other than that it seemed as though it would hold their weight. A few steps up and Axel was almost positive that they were going to fall through. With their free hand, they gripped the railing, ignoring the coating of dust on their fingertips.
Finally reaching the top of the stairs, Axel flashed the light down the hall, noticing several doors on each side. The hallway was rather long and had a faded red runner on the floor.
“I don’t think anyone’s home. This was a bust.” Axel muttered. They didn’t feel like going through each room and hoped that was enough to satisfy Riku and Sora.
“What are you doing here?” A voice whispered in Axel’s ear, and they jumped, heart pounding. A scream was heard and it took Axel a moment to realize that the sound had come from their own mouth.
“What’s going on?” Sora asked, voice shaky. The phone was no longer in Axel’s hand and was on the floor, the flashlight facing upward. “Axel, are you okay?? Riku, I knew this was a bad idea.”
Axel was too scared to turn around, but that was the only way that they would be able to get out of the mansion. Turning, they looked behind them, but saw no one.
“It was in my head. It was in my head. I’m fine, no one’s here,” Axel whispered to themself, but the words were full of uncertainty.
“I don’t think anyone said you could come in here,” the voice said again, this time coming from down the hall.
“I-I was just leaving,” Axel shouted, leaving the phone behind as they practically leaped down the stairs, skipping over steps to expedite the process of getting out of there.
“Wait!” The voice called out after him from the second floor. “You left your…” Axel glanced behind them as they reached the bottom, only to see a shadowed figure holding the phone up.
“I-It’s fine. You can have it. I don’t need it.”
“I insist that you take it. It’s rather loud and bright. It hurts my ears.” The shadow seemed to glide down the steps and once they were closer, Axel noticed that that the voice was coming from a boy probably around the same age or a little younger than them. He had messy blonde hair and bright blue eyes that seemed to glow. His clothes looked outdated, a white shirt with ruffled sleeves and black slacks. The boy extended his hand, and Axel noticed long, sharp talon-like nails.
Hesitantly, Axel reached forward and snatched the phone away from him. Of course, the call had ended. Sora and Riku would abandon Axel like that. “Those assholes,” Axel thought irritably.
“Assholes?” The boy’s head tilted to the side, a confused look covering his features as the moonlight leaked through a window, illuminating the two of them.
“Yeah, they’re kind of-wait, how did you know I said that?” Axel was sure they had kept that in their head.
“Oh, how rude of me,” the boy started, “let me introduce myself. I’m Roxas. I live here.” He flashed a smile and Axel saw fangs that were long and sharp. The lanterns lining the walls lit up instantly, giving light to the mansion and causing Axel to startle, frantically looking around.
“Okay, I’m out of here.” They turned and hurriedly went to the door. Upon reaching it, the door slammed shut and a small click of a lock was heard.
“That’s not very nice. I gave you my name and you can’t even return the favor?”
“A-Axel. It’s Axel, okay? Just please let me go.” Axel squeaked out, not bothering to turn around. They reached for the handle, frantically trying to open the door.
“You can’t leave!” Roxas shouted, and a chill ran down Axel’s spine. “You made a BIG mistake by coming here, Axel. Do you know that? A huge one.”
Suddenly, Roxas was in between Axel and the door; so close that Axel could see the freckles lightly scattered over his nose and cheeks. Axel wanted to back away, but found that they couldn’t move.
“What are you going to do to me?” Axel whispered and Roxas only smiled.
“I want to play with you,” he said calmly.
Finally feeling the power to move, Axel stumbled back, falling onto their ass. “Play? Were you the one who was responsible for those missing people?”
Roxas shrugged his shoulders. He extended a hand out to Axel. “Maybe. Axel, grab my hand.”
Axel didn’t want to grab his hand, but something seemed to possess their arm, and their hand clasped onto Roxas’. His hand was as cold as ice as if no blood was running through his body. With ease, Axel was instantly lifted onto their feet.
“How-” they started, but Roxas brought his free hand up to his lips as if to shush them. His other hand still grasped tightly onto Axel’s, and Axel could feel the talons digging into the back of their hand.
“I know your name, Axel. Another mistake that you’ve made tonight. I actually know quite a bit about you. How your birthday is August 13th, your favorite color is red, which is obvious.”
“And,” Roxas continued, this time pulling Axel down and close to his face, their noses touching. His other hand was now clutching on the front of Axel’s shirt, “you’re lonely. Just like me.”
“Are you going to eat me?” Axel muttered, their green eyes boring into Roxas’ blue ones.
Roxas chuckled lightly, staring back just as intensely. “Hardly. If I was going to, it would have happened by now.”
Roxas closed the distance, pushing his lips against Axel’s rather roughly. It threw Axel off, and they pulled their hand out of his grip, before pushing the vampire away. “What was that for??” Axel rubbed their mouth with the back of their hand, but the feeling of Roxas’ lips on theirs stuck with them.
For a moment, Axel swore Roxas showed a look of rejection and sadness, before his expression changed to more of annoyance. “You’re lonely. I’m lonely. I’ve been stuck here for centuries, wasting away.” Roxas walked past them and towards the living area.
“It’s true, I’m the reason for those missing people, but that’s the only way I can survive. I haven’t eaten in a very long time. It’s been a while since someone has come across my doorstep.”
“Then, why aren’t you going to eat me? Not that I’m complaining, or anything,” Axel joked lightly as a mechanism for calming themself down.
Roxas idly brushed his fingers across a sheet that covered what might have been a couch and mumbled something Axel couldn’t quite hear.
“Sorry, what was that? You’re mumbling.” The redhead started to step into the room, keeping a safe distance between themselves and Roxas.
“I said you’re different,” Roxas snapped, shooting a glare back at Axel.
“Different? Don’t make me laugh, kid. I’m probably worse than some of the ones who walked into this damn place.”
“That’s not what I mean,” Roxas said, turning his entire body towards Axel. “You have a great amount of pain. You’ve been through a lot. Years of not being understood, not fitting in, and that fire…with your parents…that must have been rough.”
At the mention of that, something deep inside Axel had snapped. “Don’t bring that up. Don’t you EVER bring that up.” Axel growled, irritation suddenly taking a hold of them. Stepping forward, Axel grasped Roxas by the front of his shirt without even thinking.
“You can’t hide or run from it, Axel,” Roxas said in a monotone voice. “You couldn’t have changed the outcome. Your parents are dead because of a mistake you had made. It was inevitable.”
Axel wasn’t one to cry. After all, they couldn’t remember the last time they had cried. Axel didn’t even think they had cried at their parents' funerals. Tears were flowing down their cheeks freely and with a shaky hand, Axel let go of Roxas.
“I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know.” Axel sobbed out, falling to their knees. Flashbacks scattered freshly into Axel’s mind.
Clear as day, the fireworks Larxene had brought over were being lit by Axel, after being told that they were not to mess with them without supervision. Larxene was egging them on, eager to see the fireworks explode, and it was hard for them to say no to her. Axel lied to Larxene by saying that they knew what they were doing, but as a 12-year-old, it was clear that they barely even knew how to use a lighter.
In the backyard, the rockets had backfired, shooting the opposite way towards Axel’s childhood home. Soon enough, the entire house was up in flames, with Axel and Larxene watching in fear.
“We gotta call someone! Axel, dial 9-1-1!” Larxene could be heard shouting, but Axel just stood still, staring in shock at the flames in front of their eyes.
“Axel! What the fuck are you doing?” Larxene frantically dug into Axel’s pants pockets and pulled out their phone, before dialing with shaky fingers. “Hello? Yeah, there’s a huge fire! We need help. There’s two people inside, I think.”
Breaking out of the trance that had encompassed them, Axel gasped and grabbed the front of their shirt. Their heart was tightening, and it was getting hard to breathe.
“It’s okay. Feel that pain,” Roxas said soothingly, kneeling down to rub Axel’s back gently.
“Wh-why would you do that to me?” Axel gasped out, tears still streaming down their cheeks.
“I needed to. You’ve been suppressing it.”
Axel lunged forward and tackled Roxas to the ground, straddling his hips as they wrapped their hands around his throat. “You’re a fucked-up piece of shit. Now, let me out of here!”
Roxas stared up at Axel with wide eyes, but the choking was not affecting him one bit. “I was trying to help.” Suddenly the tables had turned, and Axel was on their back with Roxas straddling them, but his hands weren’t around Axel’s throat. Instead, they rested on either side of their head.
“I already told you,” Roxas whispered, his lips grazing over Axel’s, “you can’t leave me. I need you here, just like how you need me.” He forcefully kissed Axel, who couldn’t manage to push him off. Axel could feel his fangs grazing their lips and the taste of metal filled their mouth.
Roxas pulled away, staring down at them and licking his lips. “Your blood is delicious. Just like how I thought it would be.” Roxas looked surprised for a moment, before a mischievous smirk graced his features. “You seem to be enjoying yourself, Axel.”
Embarrassment was an understatement. Axel hadn’t even noticed the hardness in their pants until it was pointed out by the blonde on top. Roxas pushed his butt back, lightly grinding against it, eliciting a moan from the redhead.
“I have to admit, it has been a few thousand years since I’ve had sex..and your blood is definitely a turn on. Seems like you like getting bitten, isn’t that right?” He continued to grind and Axel could feel Roxas’ own excitement pressing into them.
“Get off of me,” Axel pleaded weakly, their hands coming up to try and push the blonde off of them.
“You say that, but do you really mean it?” Roxas slowed down on his grinding, taking a cold hand and caressing Axel’s cheek lightly. “Fuck me, Axel.”
Once again, something had taken over Axel’s body and instantly they were on top, pulling at Roxas’ pants, frantically trying to pull them off. A small blush coated Roxas’ pale cheeks as his own hands went to Axel’s pants, tearing into them with his talons and ripping them to shreds. Roxas lifted his hips for his pants to come down and off easily and as soon as they were both naked, Roxas wrapped his legs around Axel’s waist.
“I don’t need preparation. The pain feels good for me.”
Axel tried to say something but found that they couldn’t speak. Instead, they lined themself up and started to push in. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as tight as they thought it would have been, but it wasn’t as warm, either. Still, Roxas pulsed against them, causing a guttural moan to escape Axel’s throat. It was unlike anything that they had felt before.
They stilled for a moment to relish in the feeling, only for Roxas’ talons to dig hard into Axel’s shoulder blades. “Get moving, Axel.”
Axel started to move on command, slowly picking up pace until they were pounding Roxas into the floor of the mansion. The wood creaked with each thrust and the blonde’s legs held tightly onto Axel’s waist, refusing to let go.
Roxas was gasping and mewling, which if Axel was in their right mind would have found to be absolutely adorable. His cheeks were flushed with arousal, and he looked almost angelic underneath Axel.
With ease, Roxas used his legs to flip their positions until he was once again on top. His hands rested on Axel’s chest, leaving deep scratch marks across it as he started to bounce erratically. Throwing his head back, Roxas continued to moan and all Axel could do was rest their hands on his hips, encouraging the movements.
“A-Axel!” Roxas shouted as he shook violently on top of Axel, releasing his seed in spurts. Axel was right behind him, closing their eyes in ecstasy as they came down from their high. Collapsing completely on the floor, Axel was spent.
Slowly, Roxas slid himself off of Axel, semen running down his legs as he rolled to Axel’s side. He curled up against them, and hesitantly, Axel turned and wrapped an arm around him, pulling him close.
They laid like that for a while, unmoving. Even if they wanted to, Axel couldn’t think of anything to say after that experience, especially because it wasn’t entirely in their control; not that they hadn’t wanted it. Roxas was right; the biting had turned them on.
“Axel?” Roxas spoke up after a moment, turning to face the redhead. His blue eyes stared up at them, but Axel couldn’t quite read the expression. “I have to turn you.”
“Turn me?”
“It will only hurt for a second, I swear!” Roxas shot up, staring down at them. “I have to, though, or else you’ll grow old and leave me. Like how the others had…”
Axel slowly sat up, staring blankly ahead of them. “I can’t stay here. I have to go home.”
This seemed to upset Roxas, and he jumped up, clenching his fists. “I said you can’t leave! You have to stay here! With me!”
Axel stood up. It didn’t seem like they would be able to get their pants back on as the article of clothing was shredded to pieces on the floor. “I can’t do that. Please let me go home. I…promise to come back and see you, okay?”
“Liar,” Roxas accused, jabbing a finger at them. “I can tell that you’re lying. You don’t even have a home to go back to, so stay here.”
Axel had to admit that Roxas was right. Couch surfing wasn’t the greatest and they had tried everything to avoid getting sent to a foster home. The moment their aunt begrudgingly took them in, Axel had found a way to leave. The accusations from their aunt about how it was all Axel’s fault was killing them.
“Please, stay. Axel, let me bite you.” Roxas reached up, fingers gently caressing Axel’s neck. They didn’t even bother to flinch.
“It won’t hurt, right?”
“It won’t hurt. I promise.”
Axel squeezed their eyes shut as Roxas leaned up. Fangs pressed in, breaking the skin and instantly Axel felt a surge of ice-cold run through their veins and a sharp pain. Instinctively, their hands went up to grip Roxas’ shoulders. After what felt like years, Roxas finally pulled away, blood glistening off of his lips.
“You’ll feel weak for a bit, so I suggest sitting down.” Roxas helped Axel to sit back on the floor. The world felt like it was spinning, and Axel felt the urge to vomit. Leaning to the side, they heaved and gagged, but nothing would come up. Roxas rubbed their back, and it felt oddly comforting.
“Get some rest, Axel. Daylight is coming.” That was the last that Axel could remember.
The next thing that they knew, their eyes were opening to a dimly lit room that was different from the room they had been in previously. Sitting up, Axel noticed they were on a massive Victorian style bed. A figure laid next to them curled into their side, lightly snoring.
Axel had almost forgotten what had happened. It all felt like some odd, fucked up dream. Being in that room confirmed that it had indeed all happened. Roxas seemed to know that they were awake and sat up sleepily, rubbing his eyes.
“You’re awake,” he greeted with a small smile. “It’s nice to wake up next to someone for once.”
“So, everything that happened last night…happened?” Axel felt a small surge of panic and stood up, going over to the large mirror that hung on the wall in the room. There was no reflection to be shown. “Is this mirror broken?”
Roxas laughed. “You’re so cute, Axel. Of course you won’t be able to see yourself in any sort of mortal mirror.” Axel ignored the comment and reached their hands up to touch their teeth. Sure enough, long fangs protruded from their canines, and they were sharp and pointy. Axel then noticed the long talons, similar to Roxas, that were now on their fingertips.
“I-I’m a vampire?”
“Yes.” Roxas stumbled out of bed and went over to Axel, bringing his hands up to their cheeks. “It’s a lot to take in, but I’m here for you. You’ll never feel alone again.”
A single tear escaped down Axel’s cheek and their hand went up to rest on top of one of Roxas’ own.
They stood like that for a moment, and Axel wasn’t one for sentimental moments. It always made them uncomfortable. Breaking away from the blonde, Axel strolled back over to the bed and plopped down.
“Okay, so while we have eternity, why not tell me about yourself and how you came to be a vampire.”
Roxas grinned and jumped onto the bed, snuggling into Axel. “Okay!”
