Notes:

Hi, Lovelies! Some notes before we start:

I do love caitvi, but i needed a reason to get Vi and Reader together, so the first chapter is a caitvi breakup scene.

I purposely didn't describe Emory (Reader) 's physical traits too much, so you can insert yourself in the story.

However, i'm a very visual person, so i made vision boards, illustrations and stuff to help me write, so i'm gonna put it here if you wanna take a look ♥

Chapter 1: "I can’t give up on her again.”

Chapter Text

“How are you feeling today, Vi?” Caitlyn asked as she set a tray with breakfast on the table of their shared bedroom. “Good… I’m good.” She answered, but her face told a different story. Ever since that day on the wreckage of the Piltover battle, Vi’s had trouble feeling good. She loved Caitlyn, of course, and she’s happy she’s with her. But most often than not, she found herself immersed in desperation. The guilt of losing her family once again felt like drowning, clawing for air, frantically trying to get her head above water. Honestly, she noted, as much as she tried to appreciate the life she was living and the people she was surrounded by, she couldn’t help but feel like she may die of melancholy at any given time. Cait knew she was putting up a front. She didn’t want her girl to worry about her.

“I got us some breakfast!” She smiled. Getting Vi to eat when she was in this state was hard. She’d just sit by the fireplace and stare at the fire for hours on end. “I don’t really wanna eat right now, Cait. Maybe later…” she mumbled
“Vi, you can’t keep living like this. I know you miss her but you can’t just give up the rest of your life”
“Cait, please, I don’t wanna talk about it, okay?”
“You have to, Vi… You can’t isolate yourself, please.” Vi scoffed, she had heard this lecture many times, but she knew Cait was just worried about her, so she let it slide.
“I know how you’re feeling. I’ve lost my mom too. I know grief can get you down, but-”
“You have no idea.” Vi muttered. She immediately regretted it and hoped to God Cait hadn’t heard her.
“Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry, Cait. I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry…”
Cait sighed. Sometimes, trying to get to Vi felt like punching a wall. No matter how hard she tried, they were worlds apart.

“Vi.. I don’t know how to tell you this. When you told me about the day Jinx passed, I had a feeling about it, like something wasn’t quite right. I looked over the Kiramman files and it looks like there might have been a way she could have… escaped.” Vi jumped up from the ottoman she was sitting on. “What? You think she’s alive? how -” “I thought I was a possibility. I got enforcers looking for her all over Piltover and agents in Zaun as well but she’s nowhere” Vi looks attentively at Cait. “ Steb informed me there’s been an unauthorized airship flight 5 days after the battle, heading southeast.” Vi was in disbelief. She spent so long mourning her sister once again, she didn’t even want to entertain the thought that Jinx may still be alive. “My family has a contact in Ixtal. I asked him to see if he could find anything. There’s been sightings of a blue haired girl that matched her description.”

Suddenly, Vi couldn’t breathe. Everything was turning and she could barely keep up. Her sister was alive. She hugged Cait tightly as tears rolled down her face. All she could say was “thank you”, over and over again. After a while, she was still smiling ear to ear, sniffling away her tears; Vi turned around, scrambling looking for her jacket and a bag.

“Vi, where are you going?”
“I’m gonna get my sister… I’m bringing her back!”
“What?”
“Yeah… well… i’m gonna get her back” Vi said, very confused, putting loads of things in a big backpack.
“No, Vi. She 's okay. She’s doing well in Ixtal. There’s no need to go after her.”
Vi stopped in her tracks and smiled in disbelief. Maybe she got it wrong? “What are you talking about, Cait? It 's my sister. I… I need to go after her.”
“She’s doing well in Ixtal” she repeated.
“I don’t understand.. Why did you tell me this?”
“I just wanted you to feel better, Love. I know how much guilt you felt about your sisters death, i thought if you knew she survived, you’d finally be able to move on with our life”
“Move on? Cait, she’s my sister. I can’t move on. I can’t give up on her again.”
“Vi, please! We have a future here. You have a future here. In Piltover. With Me.”
“You can’t be serious. Tell me this is a joke. I can’t give up on Powder, Cait. I won’t.
“God, you’re so headstrong. Isn’t it enough to know she’s okay?”
“No! It’s not! She’s been alone most of her life, because of me. I will not let her be alone again. “
“Vi, you said you were in this fight.”
“She’s my sister, Caitlyn! She’s the only family I have left!”
“I thought I was your family.”
“This is different…”
“No, it’s not, Violet. You’re choosing to leave when I need you most.”
“I’m choosing to fight for Powder. I’ve failed her too many times.”
“She’s NOT Powder. She’s a deranged cold blooded psychopath. I’m sorry, Vi, but she’s not your sister.”
“So, what, you thought I'd find out my sister is alive, after I grieved her for months, and just keep living this topsider life, going to balls, making public appearances and publicity stunts?"
“Yes! I did. I thought you’d have a sliver of common sense. I should have never told you about this.” It felt like she was punched in the gut. A look of betrayal clouded her eyes.
”Tell me you didn’t mean that. Tell me you didn’t say you’d rather hide the fact my sister is alive after all I’ve been through just so I could play house with you.”
“Play house? I thought we were building something, Vi. Don’t you understand? I need you here. Please.”
“I can’t. I need to go.”

Vi picked up her poorly packed bag and brushed past Caitlyn. The Kiramman Heiress went after her, but when Vi walked out the front door of the mansion, she kept standing by the landing, knowing there’s nothing she could do to make things better.
