Fireworks & Couches

Summary:

You and Loki spend New Year’s Eve at one of Tony Stark’s infamous parties.

Work Text:

Tony was throwing another one of his glamorous parties packed with the normal amount of loud music, obnoxiously expensive alcohol and, of course, fireworks. At least this time there was a legitimate reason for it. Tonight was New Year’s Eve, the first you would be spending with Loki since you moved into the Avengers Tower.

You were fairly sure the only people celebrating that aspect of the night were you and the aforementioned god, though he seemed much more low key about it. If you didn’t know him as well as you did, you would have taken the added sparkle in his eyes while he flitted about the room as him simply enjoying the party. No. That was mischief. Innocent mischief, but mischief all the same. He was planning something. As much as you wanted to figure it out, you stepped back, allowing yourself to fall into conversation with Wanda. Why not let Loki have his fun?

Despite the two of you being apart and in your own dialogues, you always managed to look up at the right times to catch the god’s gaze. Those moments slowly dwindled until you barely saw Loki. As you chatted, you snuck a glance at the clock hanging in the middle of the room. Ten to midnight. And you realized, it had been at least thirty minutes since you had last seen him.

Wanda continued on about what she had been learning from Dr. Strange and Loki until Vision materialized and whisked the little witch away. That was when you started to look for your mischief maker. He wasn’t lurking in a dark corner or corridor, acting as a wallflower, hiding out on the balcony — any of the things he would normally do when he was done with Tony’s festivities. So what was he up to?

He wouldn’t have gone back to your shared suite without you, would he? No… That wasn’t his normal move either…

Just as you were about to double check the balcony in case you missed Loki under one of his cloaking spells, there was a loud pop and the thud of a cork hitting the ceiling. All you could do was chuckle under your breath as Pepper scolded Tony as he cheered for the New Year too early. How he managed to be louder than the music was beyond you. All you wanted at this point was to curl up on your couch with Loki with the new book he had gifted you for Christmas — Well, he called it Yule when he explained some of Asgard’s traditions.

Wait a minute… That was it! There were other places to hide to escape the noise. The clock showed five minutes had flown past. Not much time to find your sneaky god now.

With all the attention still on an exceedingly drunk Tony, you were able to slip out of the room and race down the hall to the elevator. After hitting the button to take you a few floors up, you settled against the railing, tapping your foot impatiently. You only had a few minutes left.

The arrival ding had you bolting out the metal door before it had a chance to slide open fully. Luckily for you, the library entrance was close by, allowing you to make it there with a couple of minutes to spare. You mentally cheered when you stepped inside to find Loki lounging on the sofa by the ceiling tall window.

The trickster hummed contentedly as he placed his book on the table with a grin.

Took you long enough.

That prompted you to kick off your shoes and join him. You nestled into his arms, back pressed against his chest.

Still made it in time.

He swiped the blanket from the back of the couch to cover the both of you before pulling you closer.

Wouldn’t expect any less.

Then, he lifted himself up, supporting his weight on his elbow. The shift had you rolling onto your back to look up at him. There was that same spark of mischief swirling about those aventurine eyes.

“So, I heard about some tradition that takes place tonight,” Loki hummed, lips curled into a grin.

Of course you did.

You just mirrored his expression. Your hands grazed up his arms, past the rolled up sleeves, to his shoulders, giving them a gentle squeeze. Loki allowed you to pull him down closer until your noses barely brushed against each other.

May I?

You tugged him down the rest of the way.

Do you even have to ask?

A chuckle reverberated in his chest.

Happy New Year, love.
