Chapter Text

Jacob took a deep breath as he woke up from his nightmare, feeling like someome was covering his mouth while he was asleep.

Confused and terrified from the uncertainty of both time and place, he looked around only to realise he had fallen asleep on his father's office desk, above an almost endless pile of documents. Thus taking in the information of the place.

Later he checked himself, he was still in his business suit. Jacob's eyes roamed towards the dark night outside his double window.  The clock on the wall suddenly rang, indicating that it was already midnight. Letting him take in the second information he was seeking for, the time. He finally felt his confusion going completely away.

The boy's father was on vacations since yesterday for the whole week. The problem was  him leaving open the case he was in charge of.

Not much later Jacob's eyes were back on the documents before him. Files about a real case that, despite its heavy background, Jacob's father didn't pay the needed attention. It was one of the biggest cases at that moment . Even citizens were wondering if there will ever be a solution to lt.

It explained about  a young man who was trying to study hard in the detective academy,  just like Jacob at that moment. The victim received a phone call, before going  outside the academy yard and while the studying hours were not ovet yet he was found unalived in his apartment.

Why did he leave the academy so suddenly , what made him leave without informing anyone from his friends till his teachers? Who could have unalived him? What did the perpetrator win from this?

So many ignored and unspoken questions. Why did nobody from the Officials really cared about the case ? That was a personal question of Jacob.

Grabbing a paper he wrote the key points of the case to be ready for the morning that was approaching in less than 4 hours. He was intrigued enough to waste his sleep on it.

An hour later.

With sloppy steps he dragged himself to the bed.

Two hours later.

The phone kept buzzing making Jacob wake up from the few important sleep hours he had. It was time to work , and since he wanted answers this only meant he had to move fast. His current mindset was what made him choose to skip today's lessons and focus on the case.

As soon as Jacob finished brushing his teeth he drunk his warm morning coffee before  entering his father's office ,today too, with yet another cup of coffee.

Suspects board was set up high on the wall  in front of the sleepy male who fought to keep his eyes open.

The first suspects according to Jacob's father were the victim's closest ones , the best friends. If they didn't do it ,they  must have at least seen something  . Jacob himself was a loyal friend which prevented him of thinking them as perpetrators yet he had to investigate everyone related. Of course there were much more people in his suspect list , like his classmates, who were constantly with him.

Since the victim's parents lived in the next city it gave them a type of alibi over the crime. They were also the main suspect Jacob avoided thinking of. He excluded the idea that they could have visited their child just to hurt him and leave after the crime, to look innocent. Why would they even do it ? What was their benefit ? So many thoughts were playing in his head that moment, one against the other

Hours of planning his moves passed faster than Jacob thought. His coffee-cup was empty , the notebook was also filled with all the infos needed for him to move.

He placed his hands on the desk to push himself to stand up, jolting the chair back as he did so. In his surprise he was indeed feeling ready for the job even if he had barely slept. Not  to mention the danger of it.

He's been studying it since afternoon so he knew he  was ready and the time was ideal too. Most people would be back from school at this time.

A form to avoid  leaving hints is to go to the needed destination with bus then walk. Driving till there will reveal his car plate and so many information about him. If he's rich or not, that he can drive, where he lives through looking up his car plate. This could be proved against him in the future.

Hours later.

Sunwoo run as fast as he could,  turning on an unknown neighbourhood in order to escape. The number of people chasing him was 4 , yet he was alone which meant it didn't deserve the risk to fight them. What if they overpower him? He'll be caught and beaten.

"Ow shit"

thought Sunwoo as his widened eyes were focused on the view . It was a road under constraction. In compare to many countries Korea would fix it in barely a week which was great news yet not what Sunwoo wanted to hear. He needed an escape now.

He had to cut his running to fit between the two construction warning signs , which additionally helped the people coming after him to catch up to him.

"Got him"

shouted one of them as he managed to grab Sunwoo's arm. The younger clenched his teeth to hopefully push further to fit between the two signs in an attempt to escape, yet the hand grabbing him easily prevented him from doing so. Soon he was pulled back and then slammed on the ground making him leave a groan from the sudden pain.

They surrounded him and the one who had managed to grab him proceeded to kick him too

"You think you can escape , huh ?"

as soon as the attacker stopped hurting him, Sunwoo stopped hugging his body and cleaned his palms from the dirt of the road . He then looked up at the person talking to him , the irony of how less he cared about what they said, was clear on his face

"Hyunjae"

he made to talk only to be interrupted by the person who had kicked him

"Yah! This brat broke into our building and found out about my name. Not only he got in our business,  he even brags about it. You know how we'll punish you!"

said Hyunjae and crouched down with a sinister look on his face. Sunwoo gulped and it only gave a huge satisfaction to his older. Hyunjae licked his lips and looked at his three friends

"Changmin, Kevin , Juyeon. How about we share him?"

suggested the oldest among them making them look at each other thinking of the proposal, just to scare him. All except Kevin who honestly interfered

"No, guys. What if he's into men? We'll only satisfy him"

Sunwoo's panicked face gradually calmed down. He wasn't into men so he wouldn't enjoy it a bit. Glad he met Kevin, according to his file he was the most understanding over human rights , both genders included. Only Changmin was the hardest to understand, despite him having studied about him too.

The bus stopped.

Without realising, Jacob had arrived at the desired location. His marked red area. After exiting the crowded bus he decided to walk calmly which resulted in him getting lost in his thoughts. Few minutes later the young male stopped  and rose his head up to be met with the view of the victim's best friend's apartment. He let his knuckles relax and breathed out. This was   dangerous yet most importantly forbidden. He wasn't in charge of the case which meant he had no right to interfere.

Jacob wasn't only risking his place in the academy yet his father's reputation too.

Yet none of these managed to stop the determined male. He would either solve the case or give up his place himself.
