Chapter Text
Two of the strongest adventurers in their guild, Winter and Karina, had always competed for the first place in the ranking. Both leaders had groups consisting of top-class adventurers. The struggle between them was never-ending but had always taken place before the eyes of others. Even though their way of managing and decision-making was rather different, both leaders deserved to stand on the top thanks to their skill, brains, and will.
Winter, a poised and disciplined commander, is the epitome of stoic professionalism. Her appearance is like that of most foxfolk-human hybrids: long, silver hair with ocean blue tips cascades down her back even when tied up. A cool, almost indifferent expression dons her face, paired with piercing, icy blue eyes that reflect her mastery over the element of ice. Her combat style is as calculated as her personality - precise, efficient, and coldly methodical. Her movements in battle are sharp and disciplined, never wasting energy. Those who stand at the wrong end of her icy polearm or kunai don’t have long until the biting chill of death takes them. Winter is the type of leader who expects nothing less than perfection, not only from herself but from her team. The only things that are remotely cute about her are her fox-like ears and fluffy tail. Her animal companion and mount, Zephyr, a gigantic falcon - large enough for Winter to ride on - with plumage the color of glistening snow, is as formidable as Winter herself. Zephyr wields the deadly poison element, striking with deadly precision from the sky, adding another layer of danger to Winter's already lethal presence.
Karina, on the other hand, could not be more different. With her sleek, dark attire, mischievous grin, and an air of rebellious energy, Karina has the charm of a catfolk-human hybrid who bends the rules with ease. A skilled magician and mesmerizing performer, her fiery red eyes and short, wine colored untamed hair speak to her chaotic yet alluring nature, and her combat style is just as unpredictable. Karina is a whirlwind in battle, dancing between enemies with a lighthearted, yet deadly grace. She wields the element of lightning, using it to strike fast and hard, often exploiting the element of surprise. With the slightest flick of her hand, she captures her enemies in her web of electrified wires, toying with her prey before disposing of them. Her animal companion and mount, Raze, a massive tiger with a coat like storm clouds, shares her love for chaos. Raze commands the earth element, summoning tremors and spikes from the ground to destroy anything in its path.
Truly, the only similarity between the two was that Karina also had animal ears and a tail, though hers were more like that of a cat.
Both women never back down from a challenge, always eager to get out there and hone their craft. Today, however, was a bit different. Today might be a little much, even for these two skilled individuals.
Today, the guild assigns them to the same quest. Together. Alone. Without their usual teammates.
The guild assigns Winter and Karina to a dangerous mission: infiltrating an underground base and connected dungeon where a relic stolen from the Capital’s museum is believed to be hidden. The two leaders, despite their shared mission, know full well that they are not particularly compatible. Winter values structure and precision, while Karina thrives on spontaneity and bending the rules.
Predictably, their bickering starts the moment the women and their animal companions step foot outside the outer city walls.
““Are you an adventurer or a traveling apothecary?” Karina calls out, her voice laced with mockery as she observes Winter’s meticulously packed supply belt strapped to Zephyr. From her perch atop Raze’s broad back, she narrows her amber eyes at the bundles of salves, potions, and tools. “Why the hell do you have so much excess medication and equipment? You expecting to open a roadside clinic?”
Winter, seated gracefully on Zephyr as the falcon glides just above the treetops, pretends not to hear the huntress below. She adjusts the straps of her gloves with an air of practiced indifference, her hair flowing in the wind.
Karina, on the other hand, unbothered, continues yelling to Winter, provoking the poker-faced commander.
“Are ya scared you’ll get hurt or something, grumpy pants? Maybe you’d complete missions faster if ya didn’t have to do an inventory check every 2 seconds.” Karina laughs, her feline ears turning with amusement.
Still retaining her poker face, Winter guides Zephyr into a sudden dive. The falcon swoops low, its sharp talons cutting the air barely a foot above Karina’s head before pulling up in a graceful arc. The huntress, terrified of birds, screams in fear, clinging to Raze, who roars with fury at Winter and Zephyr.
“Complete disregard for your own allies, Commander? How pathetic of you.” Karina spits back, her voice a mixture of fury and lingering fear. Her tail, a slender, whip-like appendage, bristles as she glares daggers at Winter.
Winter turns her steely gaze downward, her expression as unreadable as ever. “What will make this mission go by faster,” she says coldly, “is if you save your breath and we only speak when absolutely necessary.” She adjusts Zephyr’s flight path with a flick of her wrist before adding, “As for my wares, I won’t get hurt, unless you somehow screw things up for me. And for the record, being prepared is what keeps professionals alive. Perhaps you could learn something from that.”
Karina bares her teeth in a feral grin, the insult igniting her temper further. “Prepared, huh? Because nothing says ‘team player’ like nearly decapitating your ally with a bird!” She leans forward, her tail flicking aggressively. “You think you’re so clever, Commander, but all I see is someone who’s too scared to take risks unless every little thing is planned out! Pathetic.”
Winter smirks, a rare flicker of amusement crossing her otherwise stoic face, her large, fluffy tail swaying playfully. “Is pathetic the only word your small little brain knows? And all I see,” she replies, her voice laced with icy condescension, “is a catfolk terrified of birds. Quite the irony.”
Karina wants to yank Winter off her mount with her electric wires so, so badly, but ultimately decides against it. I’m not wasting my energy on that bitch. She thinks.
The two continue traversing the rest of the way to their destination in silence, neither saying a word. Both kept their ears at attention, turning them to take in all the sounds of the surroundings. Soon, they arrive at their destination: a massive cave in the ground. By now, the tension between them had settled into a cold, brittle truce. Scanning the area, both women can see and sense a magical barrier around the opening of the cave, intended to keep everyone, including them, out.
Karina dismounted, running a hand over Raze’s sleek fur as she assessed the barrier. Her sharp ears twitched as she muttered under her breath, “Figures. They wouldn’t make this easy.” She cracked her knuckles, stepping forward with confidence. “Alright, Raze, let’s break th-”
Right as Karina and Raze prepare to break the barrier, Winter tosses a green tonic on the barrier, creating an opening large enough for them and their familiars to pass through. Winter and Zephyr walk right through, both turning back for a moment to glance back at Karina and Raze with a look that says ‘are you coming in or what?’
The huntress and her tiger follow suit, but not without a look of annoyance from Karina.
“Party pooper…” Karina mutters under her breath, flicking her tail in annoyance.
Upon descending to the first of many underground floors in the labyrinth, the women and their companions are greeted by a mezzanine, the only stairway down blocked by somewhere around three dozen masked figures.
Karina looks at Winter. “You and Zephyr take the left side, Raze and I will handle the right. Stay in your lane and we won’t have any problems.” Without so much as a second look at Winter, the woman sprints off, already catching a few enemies in her voltaic web.
Winter clicks her tongue, rolling her eyes in annoyance. “So hasty.” She murmurs.
Their teamwork - if you can even call it that - is forced, yet both are too skilled and determined to let their differences be their downfall. As they venture deeper into the underground facility, the pair faces numerous challenges, from traps to hordes of hostile enemies. Their methods clash - Winter taking a calculated approach to neutralize threats, Karina springing into action with bold, erratic maneuvers. Zephyr and Raze prove to be powerful allies, with Zephyr soaring high, raining poison down upon enemies from above, while Raze causes the earth to quake, knocking enemies off balance.
Their teamwork - if you can even call it that - is forced. Karina and Raze charged through the right flank like a storm, the tiger’s earth-shaking roars and hefty boulders scattering and crushing enemies as Karina darted and struck with lethal precision. Meanwhile, Winter moved with calculated grace, each step measured as she neutralized her targets with surgical efficiency. Zephyr, ever her vigilant companion, struck from above, disrupting enemy formations with well-timed swoops and venomous strikes.
As they cleared the mezzanine, the sound of silence returned. Karina wiped the sweat from her brow, throwing a sharp look at Winter. “We’re not slowing down for your inventory checks,” she said bluntly, her tail swishing with residual irritation.
Winter raised an eyebrow, brushing dust off her sleeve. “Don’t worry,” she replied, reaching back to dust off her tail. “None of them ever stayed alive long enough to even get within arm’s reach.” She smirked smugly.
The clash of their contrasting methods was as loud as the battle itself - Winter’s discipline versus Karina’s reckless flair. But their skill was undeniable, and despite their bickering and mismatched styles, they pressed forward. The masked figures fell one by one, their defenses crumbling under the combined force of precision and chaos.
On these upper floors, the enemies here were basic, predictable, and easily dispatched. Splitting up to "divide and conquer" proved to be an efficient strategy, with both women clearing their respective sides of the battlefield with ease. The first 5 floors passed without either of them breaking a sweat, their movements precise, almost effortless
But the 6th floor is their first challenge. As they descended, the air grew heavier and damper. The room they entered was cavernous, its walls jagged and uneven, glowing faintly from the eerie bioluminescence of fungi clinging to the surfaces. At the center of the room were five massive, mutated manticores. Defeating a single manticore by yourself is already considered impressive. Both Winter and Karina have done it before. However, both of them sustained minor injuries. Given that they had 4 more floors to go, the women both would rather not sustain any injuries.
Karina, in her usual style, charges into the battlefield, singling out and drawing away one of the manticores away from the others. The creature roared and lunged after her, baring its venomous stinger. Karina sidestepped smoothly, taunting it as she led it away from the rest of the group. Raze follows, creating a wall to hold the other manticores back, but the wall likely wouldn't last for more than a minute.
“Hey, Ice Cube!” Karina yelled over her shoulder, her tone sharp and urgent. “Freeze those critters or something! And watch my back, yeah?”
Winter rolled her eyes but didn’t reply. Not paying Karina any mind, Winter instead hops onto Zephyr, directing the bird to hover a slight distance away from where the other manticores were trapped by Raze’s wall. From a few feet up in the air, Winter has a much better vantage point and an easy angle to attack. She scanned the manticores behind the wall, choosing her target: the one pacing closest to the barrier, its stinger already lashing in frustration.
With a flick of her wrist, Winter summoned a flurry of enchanted ice kunai. She launched them in quick succession, aiming for the manticore’s vulnerable spots—its joints, its eyes, its neck. The beast snarled in fury, its tail sweeping wildly to deflect the projectiles. Some kunai shattered against its armored hide or were knocked off course, but Winter didn’t let up.
Finally, one kunai hit its mark, piercing the creature’s left eye. It roared in pain, thrashing violently. Winter took the opportunity to launch another kunai at its neck, the icy blade lodging itself deep into its flesh. Frost began to spread from the wound, slowing the creature’s movements as the enchanted ice sapped its strength.
Below, Karina was locked in a fierce duel with her manticore, dodging its tail strikes and lashing out at the creature with her electric wires to keep it off balance. The creature’s massive tail lashed out in wide, venomous arcs, smashing into the ground just inches from her heels.
“Nice shot, Winter!” she called out, glancing up briefly. “I’ll kill that one off later. What happened to watching my back though?” Karina asks, sounding a little offended as she narrowly dodges yet another attack from the manticore she’s fighting.
“I’m not at your beck and call, Karina.” Winter bites back. From her vantage point on Zephyr, she scanned the room below, calculating her next move. “And for your information, I have a great vantage point from here. I could very well have backed you up from here if I wanted to.”
“But you didn’t want to, is that right?” Karina retorted, jumping to conclusions. As she ducked under a swipe of the manticore’s claws, her tail flicked irritably.
The commander ignored her. Now was not the time for arguments. That would only draw her focus away from the task at hand. Winter, in the meantime, has Zephyr bring her closer to the ground. Joining Karina in the center of the room, her back facing the other adventurer, Winter holds her polearm tight, ready to fight the manticore that’s breaking out of Raze’s wall that very second.
“Look Karina-ssi. I have no time to be bickering with you and your childish attitude right now. I’m supposed to be disposing of the manticores and other monsters right now. Don’t make me dispose of you too.” Winter grumbles.
“Hah! As if your puny little ass could even tire me out.” Karina let out a mocking laugh.
Winter doesn’t answer, instead choosing to focus on the 2 manticores charging toward her and Karina.
“Dodge! 2 manticores behind you!” Winter yells.
Karina, without even realizing it, naturally ducks and dodges away, just in the nick of time. She didn’t waste time questioning the command: her instincts kicked in. Winter, having dodged as well, now sees 3 manticores standing between her and Karina. Winter takes a quick glance around, pricking her ears up in case any unexpected enemies show up. Zephyr is in a fierce aerial battle with the fourth manticore, the falcon’s talons raking across the beast’s hide as it snaps at him with venomous jaws. On the far end of the room, Raze delivers a crushing blow to the fifth manticore, its already frozen form shattering under the tiger’s relentless assault.
Winter clenches her fist, chanting something under her breath. The air around her grows colder, frost forming on the cavern floor. In the blink of an eye, an icy tornado wraps around the three manticores. The wind howls, biting and relentless, as frost clings to the creatures’ fur and slows their movements. One more chant, and an icy, jagged circle barrier rises from the ground around the manticores, the razor sharp tips and edges pointed inward, dangerously close to their legs.
Karina takes advantage of the icy, chilling wind to amplify the electric jolt from her charged electric wires. Using the shadows and silhouettes she can make out behind the dust that has quickly built up in Winter’s icy gust, Karina grapples with the manticore.
With a confident grin, she lunges forward, her voltaic threads snapping through the air. The wires wrap around the limbs and neck of one of the manticores, electricity surging through its body. The creature roars in agony, its muscles spasming under the jolts of pain.
“Gotcha,” Karina mutters, her grin widening. Success! Just as Karina came to know and expect.
What was unexpected, was the whip like strike from the paw of another of the three manticores, right in Karina’s side. She falls back, the impact from the blow knocking the wind out of her. Pain radiates from her ribs, and she clutches her side, struggling to catch her breath.
Sensing his master in pain, Raze roars, leaping over to stand guard protectively over Karina. His fur bristles, and his growl echoes through the cavern as he stares down the manticores.
Winter’s sharp eyes dart toward Karina, her expression momentarily flickering with concern. But there’s no time to tend to her companion—not with the manticores still rampaging. Gritting her teeth, Winter makes a decision. She raises her polearm, the runes etched into its blade glowing a brilliant blue as she summons her most mana-consuming skill: Kronos Blizzard. The foxfolk’s ears twitch, her fox like tail stiffening as a layer of ice begins to form on her scalp. The frost travels downward, crystallizing the strands of her long hair until the blue tips glint like shards of frozen glass. She floats 3 feet off the ground, her eyes closed. As Karina continues to cough, lying on the floor, clutching the side of her ribs that was hit by the manticore, she witnesses Winter’s transformation. Ice crystals continue growing larger on the ends of Winter’s hair. The Manticores swipe their tails at her, one of them managing to inject her with some venom, but despite wincing, her eyes remain closed. With a crisp ‘snap!’ that bounces off the cavernous walls, 6 inches of Winter’s hair break off, clattering onto the stone floor.
“Winter…” Karina whispers, her voice barely audible over the howling winds.
3 seconds later, A blast of white light - so bright it almost blinds Karina - explodes from where Winter is. The manticores, Zephyr, and Raze all let out roars and screeches of discomfort. Karina closes her eyes, reopening them when all she hears is silence.
Standing before her is Winter, her hair slightly shorter. Behind her. All the other manticores have been frozen solid in ice. They stand motionless, their snarls frozen in time, their venomous tails and claws locked in place. None of them so much as blink.
“Come on. We’re going home. They’ll only stay frozen for 2 minutes.” Winter says, extending a hand to Karina.
“Going *cough* home?” Karina weakly says. “Why do we need to go back? Are you telling me,” Karina pauses to cough and wince as each cough causes a sharp, stabbing pain in the sides. Somehow, for some reason, she continues talking. “Are you telling me that in your entire apothecary sized selection, you don’t have an antidote and elixir? Something to *cough* remedy this?” She gestured weakly to her injured side.
Winter sighs and shakes her head, her frosty demeanor unshaken. “I have antidotes and elixirs that will accelerate the rate of healing and temporarily treat any injuries and poison, but we both still need time to heal. Especially me. The doctors will likely want me to not accept quests for a week just to make sure I don’t have any reflares of the manticore poison after they treat me. Besides, today was just supposed to be an initial scouting mission anyway.” Winter says.
“Huh? A scouting mission? Since when?” Karina asks, still surprised to see the manticores unmoving and cased in ice.
Winter rolls her eyes. “Ugh, of course you didn’t listen carefully to the debriefing and dispatch details.”
Karina stands up, doing her best not to appear weak in front of Winter. She grits her teeth, refusing to let the pain or Winter’s arrogance get to her. She’s dealt with worse before. She’d be fine. “If you want to head back, you can.” Karina gently wipes of dust off her armor.
“I’ll just pop the rapid heal elixir I have, send these monsters to the afterlife, and scout further down. You were injected with manticore venom. That can take a while to recover from, even for someone like you, who I’m sure from working with Zephyr, has a certain degree of poison resistance.”
Karina stands and starts walking toward a manticore. Winter is quick to stop Karina, pulling the woman’s arm back with a tight grip, perhaps a bit too hard. The grunt of pain Karina let’s out is enough for Raze to pounce forward in between the two women. While he doesn’t outright bite the icy foxfolk, he stares Winter down, baring his teeth in a menacing snarl.
Offended that Raze would dare bear his teeth at her owner, Zephyr squeezes herself between Raze and Winter, crying out in the sharp shrill that hurt’s everyone’s ears. This entire time, Winter still has yet to let go of Karina’s hand.
“If you’re going to continue insisting on heading down, then you clearly aren’t wise enough or fit enough to be a leader.” Winter states, her voice determined. “We already did what we could for today. We’re both injured. Resting a bit won’t kill us, but your lack of common sense clearly will. Do you treat your team like this too? Leading them toward their death?”
Karina turns around, gritting her teeth. “You. Know. NOTHING ABOUT ME!” She screams. “NOTHING! So don’t you DARE, insinuate that I would EVER intentionally hurt my team members in any way!” Karina’s face is beet red. She moves close to Winter, standing tall over her in an effort to size the foxfolk down.
Winter grabs a crystal shard out of her pocket and smashes it on the floor. A portal immediately opens in the floor beneath them, and before Karina can even attempt to escape, the two women and their companions are teleported back to the city, specifically the guild’s infirmary office.
Seeing where they ended up, Karina angrily shakes her hand away from Winter’s grip.
“You’re wasting your potential. You clearly could do so much more and still make it back with enough life to spare, yet you bailed so easily. What a failure.” Not willing to spit on Winter herself, after all, the woman did in some capacity cover for her while she was down, Jimin instead spits on the floor in front of Winter’s boots.
At this point, Winter has had enough with Karina. She simply can’t understand why the catfolk was so eager to push herself to the brink of death. She just shakes her head and heads over to another doctor who can hopefully get most of the manticore poison out of her system.
After she’s seen by the doctor, Winter heads over to the guildmaster to report on their scouting mission. What she doesn’t expect is for Karina to actually be there as well. She figured the catfolk would have already headed to the bar she owns to have a drink and slip away from her responsibilities.
“I’m telling you, guild master, I don’t think Winter and I should work together again next time, even if we’ll be accompanied by our teams.” Winter hears Karina saying as she walks in.
“Ah, there you are, Winter.” The guild master says. “I was hoping through this scouting experience you both would finally find a way to get along, but I see that my efforts were futile.” He sighs. “I promise I’ll assign you both different teams and different days to venture into that underground base and dungeon, IF after the first 2 times of your respective teams working together, you all do not get along. Let me be clear, this is not an invitation for you both to willingly sabotage your missions. If I find out you both tried to do so, not only will I not pay you and your teams for a month, but I will be deducting an entire month’s pay as well.”
Karina and Winter stare at their guild master incredulously, both clearly wanting to say something. But before either get a chance to, he speaks. “Before you ask, no, I am not willing to negotiate or change my mind about this decision. Now go head on over to the tavern. You both need to get some good food and rest. Here’s your pay from the scouting mission today.” He hands both of them a small sack of coins before shooing them away.
Having returned from their trip earlier than expected, neither of them were particularly hungry yet. So instead of heading to the tavern, the two women opted to hit the showers instead, cleaning themselves up before the evening got dark.
Winter steadied herself with a hand on the shower wall as the frigid shower water cascaded down her body. No, she wasn’t usually someone to take cold showers, but since she was actively in her rut, a nice, cold shower helps to momentarily keep her mind sharp. She’d just have to take care of it on her own. The suppressants she normally takes weren’t much help this time around. As Winter stepped out, shivering from the cold water, she reached for a towel, wrapping it around her body with quick, precise movements. Something smelled really good, but the only other person in the locker room was Karina. Trying to push her mind to think about something else, ANYTHING else other than how surprisingly good Karina smelled, Winter looked around. Her blue eyes swept the room, instinctively drifting toward the poster-covered wall where the guild rankings had just been updated. She could feel her irritation rising before her gaze even landed on the list.
There, printed in bold letters, was Karina’s name—ranked higher than Winter’s once again. This was the second month in a row, and despite the long hours Winter had poured into honing her skills, it seemed like Karina recently managed to inch ahead. The realization gnawed at her.
She scoffed, bitterness thick in her voice as she muttered to herself, “How does she even manage to get anything done? A miracle, really, given the lack of any sort of planning.”
Her words echoed in the otherwise quiet room, and Karina, who had been drying her hair with a towel, turned sharply at the sound of Winter's voice. The moment Karina’s gaze met Winter's, there was an electric crackle in the air, a charged tension that neither of them could ignore. Karina’s eyes flashed with something deeper—annoyance, but also something darker, something ready to snap.
"Maybe it’s a miracle you can even stand there talking about planning when all you ever do is complain," Karina shot back, her voice cool but biting.
Winter raised an eyebrow, her lips twisting into a smug grin. The room seemed to hum with energy as Karina’s hands crackled with electricity. A thin, violent stream of sparks danced around her fingers, shooting upward with sharp, popping noises.
“Oh, you think that can intimidate me?” Winter’s tone was thick with sarcasm as she stretched her arms, focusing her own power. Ice gathered around her fingers, curling and spiraling until it formed the shape of a short spear.
"You’re so predictable," Winter taunted, twirling the ice spear lazily between her fingers. "I almost thought you might come up with something new."
Karina’s jaw tightened, but she didn’t lower her hands. The crackling of electricity intensified, and for a split second, Winter could feel the heat of the lightning drawing closer.
"You’re all bark no bite. I think life as a commander has drained you from having any sort of spontaneity in your life." Karina muttered, but her eyes never left Winter’s.
The space between them felt charged, as though the very air could ignite with one wrong move. Karina moved closer, her scent becoming stronger, filling Winter’s nose. Both of them were close now, just inches apart, their bodies drawn toward each other by some invisible force. Karina, now closer to Winter, confirms that the crisp, fresh scent she was smelling earlier was coming from Winter. They were trapped in the moment, caught between frustration, challenge, and something else—something neither had the words for. Or, rather, wanted to admit.
“You know, rumor has it you used to be a normal, well adjusted, rule abiding person. I don’t know what happened to you, if anything. Whatever happened likely wasn’t your choice, but continuing to be who you are now on the day to day is an active choice.” Winter snarls. “You’re choosing to be a rule bending, promiscuous con artist who uses her ethereal beauty and sweet words to get what she wants!”
Karina tilts her head to the side, a smile on her face. “And you make the active choice to have a stick up your ass all the time. At least you recognize that I’m good looking though. Proves you’re not entirely blind.”
“Ugh you’re just so…so…insufferable really. Just you watch. These 2 months have been a fluke. Next time, I’ll be above you, truly on top of you, where I belong!” Winter huffs.
Karina blinks. Did she just hear that right? Maybe it was Winter’s scent and her own heat messing with her.
“On top of me, you say? Where you truly belong?” Karina asks teasingly. “Ohh, I get it. This entire time you’ve just been angry that after you rejected me a while back, I didn’t continue scrambling to chase you. Now that I’m better than you, and you’re in a dry spell, you want me back, huh?” Karina lifts a brow.
“Are you insane?” Winter asks. “I neither want nor need you!” Winter clenches her fists. “I’m not one of your dedicated cult followers that worships you. And no, I haven’t had a dry spell! All the sex you’re having is corrupting your mind. Your advances had no affect on me.”
As their argument becomes more heated, their respective scents fill the room. Karina, after debating whether or not to test something out, decides to go for it.
“Are you sure I have no effect on you?” Karina leans down, bringing her face closer to Winter’s. “Are you scared that if you kiss me, or let me get too close, you’ll fall for me?”
Then, without warning, Winter closed the gap. The ice spear vanished from her hand as she stepped forward, her lips crashing against Karina’s with a suddenness that stunned them both. Karina’s body froze in shock, her lightning sputtering out at her sides as her brain tried to catch up with what had just happened.
But Karina’s shock didn’t last long. Slowly, she let go of the tension in her body. Her hands gripped Winter’s towel, pulling her closer as her lips parted with growing urgency. The electric spark between them returned in full force, now turning into something tangible, something heated and fierce.
Winter responded with equal intensity, her arms wrapping around Karina’s neck as the kiss deepened. It was a collision of two worlds—ice and lightning, fire and fury. The air around them buzzed with energy, almost as if the magic itself was responding to the raw power between them.
But just as quickly as the kiss had ignited, the sound of footsteps in the hallway shattered the illusion of privacy. The faint echoes of voices drifting through the door reminded them that other adventurers were out late, coming back from their quests.
The two women pulled away, breathless and wide-eyed, eyes darting to the door in unspoken panic.
"How’s that for spon-" Winter started, but Karina cut her off.
Without a word, Karina grabbed the pile of clothes they’d left on the floor, shoving them into Winter’s arms. Then, with a sudden, fluid motion, she retrieved a small vial from a hidden pocket in her towel. The liquid inside shimmered in the dim light, a deep blue hue.
"Teleportation elixir," Karina murmured, uncorking it with a practiced hand. "Hold on."
In an instant, the world around them shifted. A strange, dizzying sensation washed over Winter as the magic of the elixir took hold. The floor beneath her feet seemed to vanish, and before she could even blink, they were standing in the familiar cool, quiet air of Karina’s private home. The heavy scent of wood and lavender filled Winter’s nose, and the soft glow of candlelight flickered across the room.
They stood in Karina’s bedroom, the space intimate and tucked away from the bustle of the guild. The harshness of the earlier tension had faded, replaced now by a different kind of energy—one that simmered and pulsed, palpable in the quiet stillness between them.
Winter’s heart was still pounding, her thoughts scrambling to catch up with her actions. She opened her mouth to say something, but Karina was already moving toward her, her hands cupping Winter’s face with intensity and lust. Karina backs Winter up against a wall, capturing the commander’s lips forcefully with her own. The two are rough with each other, hungrily tasting each other, their hands and limbs constantly shoving each other and straining against each other in a vie for dominance. It doesn’t take long before both of their towels fall to the floor, their warm bodies pushing up against each other. Karina, feeling something something hard down there, looks down to be greeted by Winter’s hardening cock.
Oh! I didn’t know she was… Karina smiles. This was going to be very, very fun.
“Let me make this clear,” Winter says, breaking away from this kiss. “This doesn’t mean I like you. I still despite you. You ranking higher than me? Telling me I wouldn’t even be able to tire you out, saying I lack spontaneity?” Winter spats, her gaze a cocktail of lust, hatred, and vigor. “You don’t have any right to judge me. Tonight, I’ll show you just how wrong you are.”
Karina can’t help but laugh, taking a seat on the edge of her canopy bed. Winter’s energy was…intriguing. A sheltered foxfolk like Winter likely never even did any of this. The short woman was in over her head. Yet, still interested and actively in the week of her heat, Karina wouldn’t refuse. Karina’s eyes remain focused on Winter’s long, girthy dick. Just the thought of it plunging deep inside her was turning her on. A beautiful woman is a beautiful woman after all, and if things work out the way she thinks it will - where Winter ends up like putty in Karina’s hands, it wouldn’t hurt to have some blackmail material on the commander.
“Alright, challenge accepted.” Karina smirks, using one of her wires to harmlessly pull Winter into her lap, the shorter foxfolk straddling her. “Give it your best shot.”
Winter goes back to kissing Karina, the latter not giving up her fight for dominance any time soon. Winter slides a hand up to Karina’s chest, purposefully chilling her fingertips as she pinches and pulls at Karina’s hardening nipples. Her other hand slides down right between their hips, feeling around before she finds the catfolk’s swollen clit, beginning to play with it. Karina, pleasantly surprised, hums into the kiss. Breaking the kiss momentarily, Karina spits into her hand before reaching down to stroke and play with Winter as well. Enjoying Karina’s touch, Winter grinds her hips into Karina’s hand. Karina extends her tail to gently glide against Winter’s, the latter reciprocating the touch. With their bodies this close together, they can smell each other’s arousal, and it becomes clear to both of them that they’re both in heat and rut right now, just itching for something to get rid of their body’s thirst for sex.
The smell of Karina’s wetness completely takes over Winter’s senses. It’s like an earthy, floral perfume. Her scent is addicting, and all Winter wants at that moment is to lap up Karina’s juices and make the catfolk squirm underneath her, begging her for more. Karina, smelling Winter’s clean, pine-y scent as well, wants nothing more than to devour Winter and edge the woman until she’s so high on pleasure she’s a brainless, mumbling mess.
The two stay like this for a minute or two, saying nothing, simply touching, tasting, and stimulating each other with reckless abandon. Only heavy breathing and muffled moans fill Karina’s room.
“Stand up.” Karina says.
“And if I don’t want to?” Winter asks, challenging the older woman.
Karina tightens her grip on Winter’s dick, the fox clearly enjoying the sensation.
“I’ll make it worth your while, promise.”
Winter stands up as Karina kneels, taking as much of Winter’s thick, throbbing cock into her mouth as she can. Karina swirls her tongue around the tip, enjoying the groan of satisfaction from Winter in turn. The catfolk wraps her hand around the base of Winter’s cock, continuing to stroke as she sucks.
“Fuck…” Winter mutters under her breath. Her ears perk up and her tail bristles with pleasure. The commander grabs the back of Karina’s head, desperate to feel her cock down the woman's throat.
Karina gags a little, but is still able to handle it. Had this been any other time and any other person, Karina would have stopped, unwilling to do it, but her heat, paired with her desire to not lose to Winter, clouded her judgement. As she felt the tip of Winter’s cock repeatedly press against her throat, all Karina could think about was how good of a plaything Winter would be for her. Just the scenario itself was turning Karina on. Winter is someone she’s supposed to hate and avoid at all costs. Yet, deep in the back of her mind, Karina knew full well that every time they’ve argued and quipped with each other over the past 5 years, there’s been an unspoken, underlying sexual tension. Whomever Karina wanted, she usually got. So all those years ago when she had her eyes set on the petite foxfolk, only to be rejected, she was always waiting for a day like today to come.
From the way Winter curses under her breath and moans after every few strokes and bobs of Karina’s head, she knows she's doing something correctly. It took every ounce of self control for Winter to stop her claws from coming out. Yet somehow, wanting even more pleasure, Winter clutches at her breasts with her free hand, pinching and rubbing circles over her hard nipples. Karina’s warm, wet mouth felt so good around her cock. When she makes eye contact with the kneeling woman’s half lidded, lustful eyes, Winter want’s nothing more than to fuck Karina till the next sunrise.
“My turn,” Winter says with a low growl as she reluctantly backs away from Karina. The moment she’s outside Karina’s mouth, her cock already misses it, and the commander has to do everything in her power to restrain herself. “Can you take me yet, or do you need to be stimulated some more?”
Despite wanting to be rough and brutally dominant, her sexual partner’s needs still mattered to her. The best doms, after all, keep their subs/partner’s needs in mind.
Karina stands up and closes the distance between her and Winter. She takes Winter’s hard, pulsating dick and rubs the sensitive head against her wet folds. Winter draws in a sharp breath.
“Shut up and fuck me already,” Karina says.
Not waiting another second, Winter lifts one of Karina’s legs over her shoulder and shoves her dick inside. The catfolk’s heat allowed Karina’s pussy to easily accept and wrap around Winter’s cock. Karina’s warm, velvety pussy felt divine around Winter’s cock. She wasn’t sure if it was her own rut or Karina’s pheromones making her feel this way, but all Winter wanted that second was to breed Karina, to make sure nobody else could ever feel as good as she was right now.
With almost all of Winter’s entire thick appendage inside her, Karina felt so full. The initial pressure from the head pushing against her inner walls as it entered deeper and deeper was so tantalizingly delicious to Karina. Unable to control herself, Karina’s claws come out, digging into Winter’s bag as her whole body tenses, her tail standing on end.
Without warning, Winter starts thrusting in and out of Karina in long, powerful strokes, almost taking her entire length out each time before thrusting back in, each time trying to go a little bit deeper.
“Fuck. Winter, ” Karina moans, her voice barely a whisper as she rocks her hips up to meet Winter’s. With hazy eyes, she looks down to see exactly how well she’s taking Winter’s cock. Dammit, she’s dripping all over the floor. But none of that matters, she feels too good to care.
“Karina. Look at me.”
The cat obeys, staring directly into Winter’s eyes as the fox continues to slam into her below.
“Moan my name again. DO IT.” Winter lets out a guttural howl as she lifts Karina’s other leg in the air as well, wrapping the cat’s legs around her waist. Now carrying the cat’s entire body in her arms, each hand grabbing a fistfull of Karina’s supple ass, Winter fucks Karina harder, rougher, faster. Her gaze never leaves Karina, enjoying the way the older woman’s tits move up and down as she bounces Karina on her cock. The sheer look of bliss and contorted pleasure on Karina’s face was intoxicating. Winter smiled. She was going to breed every last snarky comment and quip out of the cat before her.
“Mmmnn fuck!” Karina can’t help but scream. “Yes yes yes yes y-” was all Karina could manage to say. With each thrust, Karina feels Winter’s cock rub against her and hit the deepest point inside her. The cat almost wants to cry at how good she’s feeling.
“Say my name again, Karina. Say it.” Winter, panting from the workout, wants nothing more than to hear Karina say her name that way again. So weak, so needy, so desperate. It felt good to have control over the older woman.
“Win-ter,” Karina manages to huff out between uncontrollable moans and groans.
There it was. One name, two syllables, worth their weight in gold. Winter moves forward to capture Karina’s lips in a hungry kiss, enjoying the muffled moans from Karina.
Soon, Karina drags her nails down Winter’s back, her entire body starting to tense. Winter can feel the walls of Karina’s warm, wet pussy clenching down on her.
She’s close.
Truth is, so was Winter. She wanted to cum an entire minute or two ago, but given the residual competitive edge, she just couldn’t let herself cum before Karina.
Karina breaks off the kiss, letting out quick, labored breaths.
“Ahhhh Winter I’m close…fuck I’m so close!”
Winter moves to pull out of Karina. Despite desperately wanting to, cuming inside of the cat while she was at her most fertile was not a good idea, especially because she wasn’t sure whether the woman was taking birth control.
But as she moves her hips to pull out, Karina tightens her legs around Winter’s waist, pushing her cock back inside.
“Dammit Karina! What are you doing? We’re both at our most fertile right now! As much as I want to, I can’t actually breed you!” Winter moves to pull out again, but it stopped by Karina. The cat, overwhelmed and clouded by lust, won’t let the fox nor her girthy cock go. Seeing that Winter has stopped thrusting, Karina instead takes measures into her own hands, forcing her body to bounce up and down on Winter’s cock. This draws a moan out of Winter, the fox gritting her teeth, one of her hands gripping the pole of Karina’s canopy bed so hard her knuckles are turning white. She can’t come right now! Everyone in her family told her that foxes mate for life. Sure, many foxfolk and hybrids no longer follow that rule, but her conscience just gnawed at her.
Karina knew the fox was close. So many times, she could feel Winter’s cock swelling and twitching inside her. From the way Winter would bit her lip, grit her teeth, and control her breathing during those moments, it was clear that she was stopping herself from cumming. Originally, Karina didn’t want to lose in this competition either, doing everything in her power to stop herself from getting close, but the stuffed, full feeling of Winter’s thick cock inside her, paired with the fox’s dizzying scent that grew stronger by the minute, made Karina throw in the flag early. She didn’t even care about their stupid competition anymore. All she wanted was to be filled by the handsome fox’s cum.
“Please, Winter,” she moaned, her voice husky, dripping with need. “I need to feel your hot cum fill me up! Please,” she whispered.
With a flick of her hand, Karina wrapped her wires tightly around Winter’s limbs and all over her body. The wires connected up to nowhere but the blank space above Winter. Karina, with the last of her remaining energy, had used her ultimate: Puppeteer. This ability allowed Karina to attach some of her wires to whomever she dictated and - assuming they’re unable to break free from both the mental and physical bindings the skill applies - control the subject to do whatever karina wants for 2 minutes. Now, Karina’s web of wires held the tired, aroused fox in place. Karina steps away from Winter only for a second to reposition herself on her bed, her ass in the air, facing Winter. Ever the seductress, Karina sways her tail and hips side to side slowly, beckoning Winter closer. Against her own will, Winter’s body inches forward toward Karina. Grabbing her cock in her hands, Winter swipes the head against Karina’s clit and slick, wet folds before guiding it in once more.
Karina’s entire body rejoices in the feeling of Winter inside her again, those few seconds without Winter feeling excruciatingly dull. With another quick flick of her wrist, Winter starts fucking Karina again with full force, one hand firmly gripping the cat’s hips while the other hand grabs a fistfull of Karina’s wine colored hair, pulling her head back.
So she likes it rough and forceful, Winter notes.
The fox originally was actively fighting to regain control against Karina’s wires, but as both women near their climaxes, it becomes harder and harder for Winter to keep persevering. For an entire minute, only the squelching sounds of Karina’s pussy, the sharp ring of skin smacking skin, and the duo’s moans are heard.
“Mmmm shit I’m gonna cum! I’m gonna cum so hard on your big, throbbing cock Winter holy fuck you feel so good! Bet you’ve never had so much of your cock inside someone yea? Hmm? Fuuuuckk ahhhh~”
Karina rambles as her walls tighten around Winter’s length. Seconds later, she climaxes, her entire body convulsing, her tail contorting into weird shapes. As soon as Winter lets go of her hair, Karina closes her eyes and rests her head against her plush sheets, exhaling in slow, uneven breaths. But, Winter continues to thrust, despite having barely broken free from Winter’s control 10 seconds earlier. She was so close, she could feel her balls swelling and dick throbbing, but she needs to let Karina ride out her high.
“Please tell me you’re taking the pill. Please, Karina, I can’t control myself right now.” Winter says.
“Yes you dumbass,” Karina is barely able to manage a raspy whisper. “Please cum inside me Winter, before I change my mind.” Karina begs.
Oddly happy to hear a bit of Karina’s snarky attitude back, Winter decides, for once, to break her family’s tradition and throw caution to the wind. With a couple more passionate thrusts, she empties her load inside her enemy, enjoying the way her seed seems to overflow from Karina’s tight pussy after she pulled out.
Completely tucked out, Winter lays down next to Karina on her bed, turning her body to face the magician.
“Just so we’re clear, I still despise you.” Winter mutters under her breath.
“Well aware,” Karina responds. “This doesn’t change anything.”
“Of course.” Winter closes her eyes and nods. “I’ll just rest my head for a little.”
Karina chuckles. “Be my guest. I’ll get some rest too, but don’t expect me to wake you up for dinner…or to walk you home.”
“Yeah, I’d never expect that from you.” Winter laughs. “You’re not enough of a gentlewoman for that.”
The two quip and banter a few moments longer before they drift off to sleep. Whatever the consequences of this would be once both women wake up and are no longer in a lust-fueled haze would simply have to be dealt with later. But for now, one thing was for sure: the two could tolerate each other just ever so slightly more.
