Chapter 1: 13th

Chapter Text

January 13th 2012 – The sky was grey with rain pouring down, like any other days. Sarah was walking alone with her hands in her pocket and the cigarette on her lips, the rain was soaking her but it never bothers her, not anymore.

It was the usual as always with this type of weather in the city, people got used to it by now, some were annoyed, some found it calming in the busy city.

Sarah kept walking and walking until she reach the dark city where crimes often commits but would never be solved. And that’s where she lives now, in a dusty old apartment.

Ever since the chief “fired” her she began living in this dump, she can’t complain right now about how she lives, its nothing out of the ordinary. -its old, sure but she doesn’t bother affording a good apartment in times like this.

She unlocked her door and walked right in, taking her navy-green jacket off along with her scarf as she walk in further to her room.

She sees her bulletin board full of victims, murder photos, documents, etc pinned. She let out a weary sigh before walking to wards to the board and turns the board around, not wanting to see it again. She walk out and head back to the small living room.

Her apartment was small, with a kitchen next to the living room, her only furniture being a coach and a tv to relax. There’s a balcony that she often stay to smoke. The bathroom right next to her bedroom where she’d vomit from the alcohol she drank until passing out on the cold tiles. It was normal for her, to be like this.

Sometimes she’d call chief to take her back or would sometimes visit him to his house and passed out on the front yard. – or call her daughter cassie, even though cassie have clearly told her not to call her anymore. Sarah still tries to. Even if she knew her daughter hates her now.

It’s sad, pathetic even. To live like this and not accomplished anything. To be obsessed with a murderer that she had tried so hard to find.

She wanted justice, for her and for the victims, she wanted to end this all, how could she find him? He hasn’t made a move, she had never heard any news from him. And the documents in her place began to be more and more blurry whenever she tried to solve it.

It became harder for her when she couldn’t find the victims families, they were all jane does. Their IDs were gone the moment sarah visits the creeks of where they were dumped. Hard to locate, hard to figure out who they are. Hard to give them justice if you can’t even tell their story as every second passes in life.

It was a killing spree at first, but then became slower and slower until he stopped.

And now here sarah is, sat on her couch with tv on playing whatever this comedy channel on her screen. She wasn’t paying attention to it but as the tv casting a soft glow she suddenly heard the doorbell ring. Confused as she have never gotten visitors before – well except scammers. She let out a sigh and stood up from her seat. She walk down that hall and swung the door open as she’s met with… her.

“hey.” Cameron greets with a grin. Sarah notice her holding a pizza box.

Sarah, with an unfazed expression closed the door on Cameron but with quick Cameron immediately stops her. “how rude of you to close the door on me?” she scoffed sarcastically as sarah rolls her eyes, “god. What do you want?”

Cameron tilts her head, “you already know.” She said before forcing herself inside, walking past sarah.

Sarah rolled her eyes before closing the door and followed Cameron in the living room. “how did you find me? Did your daddy told you?” she said with a little sass as she sat back down on the couch with her arms crossed.

Cameron took her coat off and fold it neatly. – Cameron was the opposite of sarah, she was young, the chief’s daughter. Always busy and clean, organized with everything. Cameron was actually close to becoming a sergeant, which sarah doesn’t know when but she knew Cameron more than her exes. She definitely have taken the sergeant’s exams.

“its been a year,” Cameron said before sitting down on another chair across from sarah “since you’ve blocked my number.” as she place the pizza box down on the coffee table, opening it as the scent of pepperoni pizza suddenly lingers in the room. “how  rude of  you. Are you really that mad to my dad-“

“of course I’m mad. Do you know how angry I was when he let me go?” sarah cuts her off. “no, no you don’t. why? Because you’re a daddy’s girl.” She lets out a frustrated sigh. “you get everything you want.” She exhaled.

Cameron didn’t respond. It was true, she has been a daddy’s girl since she was young. Getting everything she wants. Even when growing, she got a job very quickly as a detective, and that’s where she met sarah. Cameron was smart, got everything right in a most perfect way as possible. Perfection runs in the family, but to be honest was everything Cameron did perfect? She notice the way sarah’s life has been ups and downs.

Tonight she wasn’t wearing her usual green dirty jacket as she sat on the couch with a manspread while wearing a tank top and sweat pants. She could see how much sarah has gone through in her life, the scars shown how she fought.

In fact, Cameron doesn’t even remember if sarah has solved any cases to get those scars. She knew sarah was obsessed with solving the Creekside killer case.

Meanwhile Cameron, being cleaned, no scars on her body to justify that she has gone through as well as they sat together in silence before Cameron cleared her throat “you have beer?”

“…” sarah points at the kitchen. “there’s a case of beer in my fridge. Lets fucking drink whatever.”

Cameron stood up from her seat and went to the kitchen to grab the case. “you know, not everything I get it.” She said as she comes back and sat down, opening two bottles of beer and handing one to sarah. “I mean.. yeah I do get what I want, dolls, money, anything..” she look down.

“but sometimes everything I receive didn’t feel right.”

Sarah raised an eyebrow, “well, maybe it wasn’t what you wanted all along.” Cameron grins before leaning back against her chair. “but I do want something truly.”

“yeah? What’s that?” sarah whispered grinning.

Her mouth opened but no words came out, sarah knew she became hesitant. “i… when dad fired you. We had an argument.”

Sarah scowl, “no you didn’t.”

“yes I did, I’ve fought him. Tried to take you back.” Cameron took a deep breath. “I know how much you love your job.”

Sarah’s smile then falters as she shakes her head, “no. my life has been rough.” Her gaze that was once full of hatred the moment Cameron was here turn soft, her dark brown eyes shown exhaustion. “It’s been a rough year.” She took few sips of her bottle of beer.

“but i-“ sarah cuts her off, “no. don’t give me further explanation. Your dad did what’s best for me.”

“but was it?” Cameron said softly.

They sat in silence. The only thing being loud was the tv still being on and playing that comedy channel. Sarah exhales before rubbing her forehead, “you should go, it was nice talking to you.”

She gets up and heads to a different room but Cameron immediately stood up and followed her. “oh don’t give me that treatment!”

Sarah turns to look at her, “what treatment?”

“that, you.. you just walking away. You know what? No, I- I hate the fact that you have ego in you. Too much pride but you’d rather walk away like its nothing.” Cameron ran a hand through her hair. “you always do this.. like every effort you made wasn’t enough and you’d just walk away.” Her gaze lowers down as her arms crossed.

“have I ever walked away from you?” she asked, her patience running thin.

“no, but that day… it felt like you did.” Cameron said quietly as she finally look back to sarah’s eyes.

Sarah let out a sigh. “what do you want me to do?”

“fight. Just.. god, fight for yourself.” Cameron steps closer as her hand place on sarah’s shoulder where her scar was. The shape of a hole that was from a bullet now being a scar for sarah’s life. She gently touch it as she felt her flinch against her touch.

“you always do this.. its like..” her words die once sarah pulls her in their lips crashed into a deep bruising kiss. Making Cameron stumble back but sarah’s arm immediately wrapped around cameron’s waist, pulling her closer as their bodies pressed against each other as if they were a puzzle piece connected.

Then Cameron finally gathered enough strength to push sarah but not too much, both were breathless, Cameron could see sarah’s face having a slight flush of red on her cheek. “wha…” Cameron speaks but her words die once sarah tore her shirt apart, her buttons flew into different directions as her hands immediately went under cameron’s thighs and lift her up to the same level as sarah before pinning her body against the wall and starts to leave trail kisses on cameron’s jaw and neck. Cameron gasps before pulling sarah closer. “sarah…”
